IVF August 2022

Might be a bit early for this thread, but is anyone else planning to start an IVF round in August?

I'm having tubes checked later this month, planning to try naturally for one month then back to the IVF again.

This will be my third round. I have a daughter from my first. The second, which was a FET, ended in a miscarriage. Sadly I have no embryos frozen so this will be a fresh cycle.

Morning ladies!
ive just rang the clinic to inform them it’s day 1 today. This will be my second cycle of IVF, the first one ended in a chemical pregnancy 💔
if I am following the same schedule as last time then my egg collection will be august 9th or thereabouts.
Ive been advised to use the same protocol and medication as last cycle, but this time I’m having testosterone treatment before hand to prime my ovaries! (I have low AMH and was a bit of a poor responder last time)

IVFGotThis05 · 24/06/2022 11:35

@Girlanon Ahh happy start of the cycle ! Here's to a better round!

It's cycle day one for me today too but I haven't had my follow up from last failed FET, I'm a little disappointed that it's took so long as I could have been starting too :(

Lauralozzle · 24/06/2022 13:38

Good luck to everyone who has started their cycle/treatment recently.

I'm likely to start September/October now, everything has been pushed back a bit as my thyroid is elevated and I’m waiting for bloods in mid July to see what my levels are. I’m hoping the meds are helping, but if my dosage needs amending it’ll be another 4-6 weeks after that for more repeat bloods. Then I get cracking.

Longbin · 24/06/2022 18:39

@Lauralozzle I might have to wait too as I'm going away in august and it might clash with egg collection.

I had my lap today and they found absolutely nothing which I'm a bit disappointed about. Going to try clomid for a couple of months before starting the IVF. The consultant wouldn't prescribe it to me as they think I ovulate, but thought I might as well give it a go!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 25/06/2022 12:00

@Longbin It’s frustrating they found nothing in your lap. Good that there’s nothing wrong there but if they found something they could fix it! I totally get why you’d be disappointed.

Hopefully the clomid will help. We’ve never been offered clomid but I do ovulate regularly so that’s probably why. When are you planning to start IVF?

Longbin · 25/06/2022 18:13

@Lauralozzle I haven't been offered it either, I've bought it online so I doubt I'll get any good results from it. I think they are wary of giving it to me as I had OHSS from IVF. It's the only thing I haven't tried now, but I really don't feel like I ovulate or my luteal phase is too short, as I've been TTC for 4 years with no success and had BFP with both rounds of IVF.

I'm going to start again in august I think. I have a holiday start of august and end of September so will try and schedule it in the middle, or if not do it in October. When will you start?

MyEasterEggs · 26/06/2022 09:42

@Girlanon wishing you all the best!

@IVFGotThis05 I’m day 2 (period arrived yesterday, three days after stopping progesterone for mock cycle) so expect I’ll be heading back down to London first week of August, a bit sooner than expected. I’m waiting for results following immune tests etc and my follow up is in approx two weeks so that’s delaying things. But I don’t think I’d have been ready to start today anyway.

Lauralozzle · 26/06/2022 09:43

@Longbin No idea when I’ll start. They won’t start until my thyroid is below 2.5. Last test it was 6.46 so I’ve been given thyroxine and have a blood test mid July to check the levels. If it’s not down enough will probably need a larger dose, then another 6 weeks for bloods so it really depends on my thyroid playing ball.

MyEasterEggs · 26/06/2022 09:50

@Longbin @Lauralozzle despite dealing with some delays myself, I feel like things are happening way too fast. I need to try and get in a better frame of mind for transfer in August. It’s been almost three years since my last pregnancy and miscarriage (we took an extended break) and I feel quite mixed up. But don’t think I’ll ever feel totally ready!

@Lauralozzle you’ve reminded me that I need to book next thyroid test and make sure all is well in that department. Mine was up and down earlier this year.

Longbin · 27/06/2022 10:58

@MyEasterEggs it is coming round so quickly. I want to get it over with as soon as possible, but at the same time I am dreading it. Really not a good attitude to have though!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 27/06/2022 12:46

@MyEasterEggs I can imagine it feels like such a whirlwind once it all gets started.

I think I just want to know when I’m likely to start. If my thyroid comes back ok, I get an appointment in with the doctors in time to tell CARE my results, and they could get me in within the week for bloods then technically I’d be ready to start on cycle day 21 in July. More likely to be August though, as that’s a lot of very last minute appointments!

If my thyroid is still rubbish then at least another 6 weeks for bloods again. It’s making planning very difficult as I’m desperate for time off work and I want to use my holiday for IVF treatment!

SamTTC · 27/06/2022 13:13

Ohh how nice that there is already a thread for August! Makes it feel closer somehow 😊

I started my ttc journey March 2021 and went through 4 IUIs and some cyst cycles before being put on the wait list for IVF. Had my first retrieval in February, 3 embryos, all transferred BFN. Had my second retrieval earlier this month, another 3 embryos in the freezer, but I have to wait to transfer until I have a polyp removed. My clinic is closed for July and my surgery is planned for August 2 (though whether it happens is dependent on my cycle staying regular over the summer, as it has to fall on a specific cycle day), and if I'm lucky and it all works out, I can have a transfer a few weeks later.

In the meantime, I'm trying to enjoy the summer rather than obsessing over the wait :)

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/06/2022 15:49

I am not looking forward to round 4 in August but also just want it and round 5 (etc) and get the embryo banking done and over. I am not hopeful so this is really just going through the motions so we can live with ourselves when looking ahead at a childless future.

As context, it has taken 3 rounds just to get two embryos to transfer (plus 3 abnormal ones I am considering shipping to the US as they have a 1-2% chance although it’s illegal to transfer them here) and I have immune issues so a very high chance of miscarrying them.

Saltisford · 27/06/2022 21:41

Hello all,

I thought I’d join as I was given the go ahead for my FET to begin shortly based on my blood results - I had been breast feeding until recently and was waiting for my prolactin levels to be low enough to go ahead.

We were very lucky to have successful NHS ICSI in early 2019 and a successful pregnancy. We have two frozen embryos from that round and it is one of these that will be transferred in August. I’ve been waiting until the time is right and now I suppose it is! I need to get my head back in this space!! X

Longbin · 28/06/2022 16:45

@Phrenologistsfinger well done for banking some so far! Are you going to 5 rounds then transfer them all? I am choosing to transfer as I go, so I had one round with 2 embryos, and I'm going to have to start another new round from scratch again.

OP posts:
Minamina · 28/06/2022 22:12

Oh gotcha ! Thank you for the correction, there is so much information to keep track of.

Phrenologistsfinger · 29/06/2022 21:52

@Longbin we are going to keep doing rounds until we get enough (or cannot emotionally, physically or financially do it). Then we will transfer after that. I am 40 next week so my already dodgy eggs are only going to get worse quality-wise (Dr says every month counts). It’s already like finding a needle in a haystack - 33 eggs retrieved, 18 fertilised, 5 blasts and only 1 has been chromosomally normal.

if I were younger we would transfer as we go.

Longbin · 29/06/2022 22:06

@Phrenologistsfinger makes sense. I was thinking of doing the same, although I'm not sure I will continue for many rounds so I am now transferring as I go. It's so difficult knowing what is best to do sometimes. I have only recently had a consultant assigned and I started TTC in 2017 (tried for 3 years before paying for IVF without many tests prior, then tried for another year). I've never had anyone give me any opinions or advice on it which has been quite frustrating but since then I've found that they can't diagnose what's wrong anyway, which kind of leaves me in a position of not knowing which approach is best!

Happy Birthday for next week. Do you have any nice plans?

OP posts:
Longbin · 01/07/2022 14:37

How do people deal with the 'surprise' announcements from people who know you have issues TTC?

I really couldn't care when people don't know I've struggled, but when they know and they still plan a huge surprise announcement after telling everyone else first, it does make me think less of the person and really make me quite annoyed.

Any tips on how to let it go?! Currently planning on ignoring them forever more but it's not realistic 😂

OP posts:
Minamina · 03/07/2022 21:14

@Longbin This topic is so sensitive and I feel like people are very unaware about what fertility struggle actually mean and how they feel. I kind of keep it short when they make announcements. On the inside it's so hard to deal with. I try to talk myself out of "envy" but its hard. I usually just let it all out in therapy which really helps. If you're not in therapy, give it a go. it helps!
xx hope this helps

Longbin · 03/07/2022 22:16

@Minamina keeping it short is what I'll do from now on. I've always engaged and asked people how they are and stuff when I actually should just say less. I used to feel envious of people but I don't anymore, I feel like I've moved on to anger when people are so inconsiderate. I need to remember that not everyone is like that

OP posts:
Minamina · 04/07/2022 21:22

and anger is 100% normal and totally okay to feel, even show if you ask me. Inconsiderate people are everywhere, so it's about finding ways to make it easier for us. Even so, I hope it never happens again, you don't deserve it.
xx

acaciabluebell · 04/07/2022 21:53

Hi! Thought I would join this thread as I'm hoping I'll be able to do my first ever IVF cycle in August. I have my nurse planning appointment on 12th July so I'll know more then. So excited! I've been waiting for this for over a year now.

Background info: 26 year old, TTC for over 2.5 years. Our main cause of infertility is male factor, but I also have diminished ovarian reserve (my AMH is 6).

What's everyone doing for IVF prep?

Longbin · 05/07/2022 09:16

@acaciabluebell welcome to the thread! At the moment I'm not doing much. I am taking clomid for a month before IVF, so just waiting to see how I feel with that. I need to go back to the gym for a few weeks too. What are you doing to prepare?

OP posts:
IVFGotThis05 · 05/07/2022 10:17

After my follow up appointment yesterday I'm feeling determined to get my body on track and try and do the best for IVF as I can ! I'll be starting my 2nd round of IVF so I'm going to try my best to have a high protein diet, get at least 12k steps today and take my vitamins ! (I quite often forget) I'm going to look into anything else I can change/implement without going too overboard !

My clinic told me that there is a national struggle for Buserelin at the moment so they don't know what protocol I will be on, they say theres quite a wait now too, and my periods are irregular so I have no clue on a start date which is disappointing ! So I suppose all I can do at the moment is get my body as healthy as pos!
