Anyone else here on Letrozole or Clomid for ovulation induction?

I'm on my 2nd cycle of Letrozole and looking for others in a similar situation.

Info about me:
26 y.o
Been TTC for just over 2 years.
Dosage: 5mg of Letrozole on days 3-7.
Diagnoses: Male factor (0% morphology), low AMH, low progesterone

I'm currently on CD10 and using OPKs to track for ovulation. I'll be taking a blood test on 7dpo to check if I ovulated.

@WaitingForEgg sounds like a much better plan than my consultant - here's 3 months clomid, one scan, a blood test each month and I'll talk to you at the end 😂

@Hopefull1981 hi and welcome, sorry can't help with that as I've not done anything like that

@acaciabluebell I'd say it looks like you've ovulated, did you temp to confirm the bbt rise?

acaciabluebell · 10/01/2022 14:05

@Marvellouslymadmum I don't really use bbt, I know I should as OPKs can be so unreliable. I've done my progesterone blood test so I'll know soon enough if I did ovulate or not. I defo had all the symptoms and everything, but I just thought CD10 was too early.

How is your cycle going @Marvellouslymadmum?

@Hopefull1981 where are you in your cycle now?

OP posts:
Marvellouslymadmum · 10/01/2022 23:47

@acaciabluebell I have multiple high opk a lot if months so I can only confirm ovulation with my bbt, hopefully you'll find out with your progesterone test though, I've had mine today. I think I'm actually ovulating now so the day 21 test won't show much up but at least it's earlier than last month!

Hopefull1981 · 11/01/2022 11:53

Hi ladies. Hope you are all doing well. @acaciabluebell I am 3 days DPO now, continuing to test the trigger out of my system. Still blazing positives on HCG and OPK test. I started cyclogest yesterday aswell. Fingers crossed your progesterone test comes back with good results. This is going to be a long TWW.

WaitingForEgg · 11/01/2022 12:09

My drugs have just arrived for this first stimulated cycle and the nerves are ramping up. When I get my period I need to call the clinic to schedule my scan. I’m a doctor and VERY stressed about needing to do this around work 🙈. Anyone else finding the time burden quite stressful?

Marvellouslymadmum · 11/01/2022 16:53

@Hopefull1981 I do hate the tww! It seems to go on forever sometimes doesn't it?!

@WaitingForEgg although I'm on clomid - that's all I get, no progesterone or trigger or anything so I've been fine on mine but I'm on threads with lots of ladies doing ivf and they're all nervous about it interfering then don't have any issues when it comes to
It so 🤞🏻 it'll be the same for you

The medication was daunting for me. I don’t have an issue with ovulation or progesterone, yet I am on letrozole/gonasi f and cyclogest. I was pregnant 3 times in 2021 all ending in miscarriage/chemical pregnancy. I am not sure if we will have one or two cycles of letrozole. All my bloods came back normal. My husbands results came back normal also. If this isn’t successful then we are moving to IVF. I have a 2.5 year old which were lucky to fall pregnant the first time we tried.

I feel so frustrated that it worked with my daughter but won’t work now. I’m reasonably certain that I do ovulate at least some of the time. Really losing the will :(
Hopefull1981 · 12/01/2022 13:47

I understand your frustration. When will you start the meds? Time is creeping by slowly here. Still have the trigger in my system so I am testing it out. The consultant said I wouldn’t get an accurate test until 18 days DPO. Anything before could be the trigger. I just have a feeling this hasn’t worked. I am lot even getting the faux symptoms the cyclogest normally come with.

acaciabluebell · 12/01/2022 17:23

Ughh I'm feeling so frustrated today, I got my progesterone results back and they were only 16.2 on 7-8dpo. It makes no sense, last cycle I was on 2.5mg and my progesterone was 29 on 7dpo. This cycle I was on 5mg and it's half? What does this mean?? 😔

My only thought is maybe I ovulated later than I thought and CD10 wasn't my peak. But I tested ovulation through till CD16 and they were all extremely low. I stopped testing after CD16 and my progesterone blood test was taken on CD19. Have not had any ovulation symptoms since CD12. Any ideas? Is it possible I still have not ovulated? I'm CD21 today, 10dpo and I have period cramps and sore boobs, it feels like my period is coming in the next few days.

@acaciabluebell as far as I am aware opk are not always very reliable on clomid and letrozole cycles, that's why it's recommended to confirm ovulation with bbt as well. For me clomid is making me ovulate later than usual or not effecting it, (I'm not sure which as I sometimes have irregular cycles anyway)

I truly have everything crossed for you Consultant said to wait for next period and call then for scanning and to be told when to commence meds I’m due on between Monday and wed next week
Hopefull1981 · 16/01/2022 09:49

Hey ladies how are you getting on? 8!days DPO here, not a symptom in sight. I am still testing every morning and still have the trigger as I am getting positive tests. According to the consultant you can’t really trust a test until it’s 18 days post trigger. I just have a feeling this treatment hasn’t worked this month. Hope you are all doing well.

WaitingForEgg · 16/01/2022 23:08

I’m getting period pain so I think AF will come tomorrow. Feeling fed up but this will be cycle 1 of letrozole. Feeling nervous and fed up. Spend most of the evening in tears likely due to impending AF (I do get very emotional).

Hopefull1981 · 17/01/2022 19:13

Hey ladies, so I caved and tested this evening as my boobs feel tender (probably progesterone) Yesterday and this morning there was barely anything on the IC tests. I did two tests there and I can see a faded pink line on the conceive plus test and a shadow of a dark line on the IC. My ovulation test is positive too. It’s probably the trigger. 🤯🤯🤯 the ovulation one was very faded yesterday. I am feeling crampish so it could be AF. I hate medicated cycles as you can’t trust anything until AF shows.

@Hopefull1981 not yet but it is definitely en route
Both tests look positive! How many DPO are you??

Hopefull1981 · 17/01/2022 22:30

9 days DPO. I did another one before bed and it is even more visible but I think it’s the trigger. I received 10000IU of gonasi f, can take ages to leave the body. I will reach out to the clinic tomorrow to see about next steps. I assume another cycle of letrozole before starting IVF.

WaitingForEgg · 17/01/2022 22:39

@Hopefull1981 do you mind me asking what made you choose the number of stimulated cycles? We start our first this month… i know I’m being ridiculously impatient but we have been trying for 18 months now and I’m just fed up. I’m not sure how long to give Letrozole before turning to IVF. I know it will vary by person, but I know I do at least sometimes ovulate, so am worried it won’t help me much. Are you doing IUI or just timed intercourse?

Hopefull1981 · 17/01/2022 23:05

I didn’t choose it the consultant did. First cycle was double dose folic acid and cyclogest, she said 2 cycles of TSI then if not successful onto IVF. I happened to be ovulating 2 days after the first visit so she could see on the scan that I had eggs being released that month. I think the 2 cycles are because of my age, I just turned 40. We did timed intercourse. I think I said before but I don’t have any issue ovulating or with progesterone but yet I am triggering one and taking the other. Our issue last year was not getting pregnant itself although it seems to be now, it was staying pregnant. This journey is so drawn out I totally understand stand your impatience. Fingers crossed for you x

WaitingForEgg · 17/01/2022 23:17

@Hopefull1981 That makes sense. Fingers crossed this one has been successful, but if not hopefully IVF will be.

I’m similar that progesterone level was fine, and scanning showed I ovulated (so i do at least sometimes). However I have an AMH of 65 and +++ follicles so PCOS. I’m now on 1500 of metformin to dampen them down. I think it just ends up taking over life doesn’t it

acaciabluebell · 18/01/2022 20:37

@acaciabluebell

Thanks ladies for joining and sharing your stories. I am CD15 today and quite frustrated because I can't tell if I already ovulated or am yet to ovulate. I'm only doing a day 21 blood test so Im relying on OPKs to give me a peak. I had a dark-ish OPK on CD10 and lots ot ovulation symptoms on CD11. But I never got a proper peak. And all test have been light since then. I'll attach a pic
So update: AF arrived a few days ago so Letrozole #2 failed.

I got my period exactly 14 days after my OPK that I got on CD10 which was 0.8 on premom. This means my progesterone blood test on 7dpo was timed exactly right. And it was only 16nmol.

The NICE NHS guidelines say 0-16 indicates ovulation has not occurred. 16-29 is inconclusive. 30+ confirms ovulation has occurred.

What I don't understand is, if I didn't ovulate then why do I always get my period 13-14 days later without fail? I wish I could understand. I've literally never had a progesterone level above 30...

@Hopefull1981 Any updates? Were you testing your trigger out to make sure it left your system?
