Anyone else here on Letrozole or Clomid for ovulation induction?

I'm on my 2nd cycle of Letrozole and looking for others in a similar situation.

Info about me:
26 y.o
Been TTC for just over 2 years.
Dosage: 5mg of Letrozole on days 3-7.
Diagnoses: Male factor (0% morphology), low AMH, low progesterone

I'm currently on CD10 and using OPKs to track for ovulation. I'll be taking a blood test on 7dpo to check if I ovulated.

@Wackadoodle84 I'm not getting a trigger shot, are you? After todays scan that's pretty much it for me, on my own until I get a BFP or CD1 arrives and I let the clinic know.

I'll try a few rounds without trigger I think, but might move to it if it doesn't work!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 16/04/2022 20:42

@HollyD87 @Wackadoodle84 no trigger shot in my healthboard. If no ovulation on CD28 bloods, they'll up the dose next cycle. My cycles are usually 50-161 days!

I hope it's okay to join in,

Hi! I'm Alice, Here is a little back story. Back in 2018 I feel pregnant naturally, which ending in a MC at 7ws. We struggled to conceive after that, after a few months and back and forth at the doctors/hospitals I found out I have PCOS. We conceived our daughter on our first round of clomid 5mg. She is now nearly 3. I'm nearly 27.

We decided to start trying again a year and a half ago. We have done 3 round of Clomid with no success, I didn't even produce an egg. I've just finished my 3rd round of letrezole and got my BFN this morning. I feel so sad and I don't know what to do now.

I'm on the waiting list for ovarian drilling, due to covid I think it's going to be a long wait!

Hi @AliceV26 I'm so sorry for your loss..remember talking it out always does help :) what dose of letrozole have you been taking? Has your doctor suggested increasing the dose and are you having monitoring scans? I have heard ovarian drilling does help lots of cases so I hope that works out. Wishing you well xx

@HollyD87 17mm on day 10 sounds very promising indeed. You know as everyone says, you only need one egg so I think chances are high and hopefully it all works out :) have OPKs helped? My nurse discourages me from using them so I didn't do any but can't help thinking whether or not I have ovulated 😕

Hey @ttcisexhausting my first cycle was 100mg and it over stimulated my ovaries so we called off the cycle. The last two have been 5mg. I was scanned the first time and I had one follicle measuring well. I was hoping to be scanned this month but they said no, because the dosage wasn't changed. This is the first month going in blind! I got a positive LH CD15. I feel so disheartened by it all. I really hope the ovarian drilling works and I can have it soon! I've heard good things with it! Both my ovaries are full with cysts 😥
Wackadoodle84 · 19/04/2022 12:10

@AliceV26 sorry for your loss, ttc can be so rough going sometimes, it’s reassuring that you had a good follicle on the 5mg letrozole last cycle. Hopefully you will have similar response this cycle.

Had my follicle tracking scan this AM, 1x 19mm follicle, 2 smaller ones. Have a trigger shot to take tomorrow (day 12).

Anyone in the 2ww?

ttcisexhausting · 19/04/2022 16:53

@AliceV26 it's good that you had a positive LH and hopefully the letrozole would've worked similarly. I understand how you feel I'm a PCOS diagnosis myself and when I had my first scan there were so many follicles the nurse kept counting and it was surprising and sort of embarrassing at the same time? But we do what we can and the rest is upto God.

@Wackadoodle84 19mm sounds great!! 👍🏼 good luck with taking the trigger and really hope this cycle works out :) I might've ovulated on Sunday so i suppose I'm in the 2ww. The clinic asked to test 2 weeks after ovulation so let's seee..

TheDaydreamBelievers · 20/04/2022 18:22

Bloods today confirmed that Letrozole 2.5 mg didn't work - not surprised. Planning 5mg next cycle. If next cycle hasn't started by CD40, clinic will do a progesterone challenge to induce one.

How's everyone else?

Wackadoodle84 · 21/04/2022 16:35

@TheDaydreamBelievers sorry to hear the 2.5mg hasn’t been successful, how frustrating. Hopefully the 5mg will do the trick. What cycle day are you on now?

@ttcisexhausting fingers crossed the tww flies by for you and ends in a nice big BFP.

Took my trigger shot yesterday afternoon, ovulation supposed to happen 24-36 hours post injection but had some awful left sided cramps last night that makes me think it may have happened already. Follicle on scan was on L side too. Gonna keep dtd for another few days to be safe.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 21/04/2022 20:36

@Wackadoodle84 CD40. Best of luck for the 2WW!

ttcisexhausting · 23/04/2022 15:48

@TheDaydreamBelievers sorry to hear that :( I hope the 5mg works. Will you be having bloods again or a scan this time?

@Wackadoodle84 thank you, I've had quite intense episodes of breathlessness since past 3 days so I was concerned about OHSS but have no other symptoms. Spoke to both the clinic and NHS but they said it isn't likely to be that since no other symptoms.. I've got a bad feeling about this month but just trying to distract myself at the moment.

How's your 2WW going? It's good you had ovulation symptoms I always think that's a good sign. Hope all is well and you see a BFP soon :)

TheDaydreamBelievers · 23/04/2022 19:56

Just bloods @ttcisexhausting . My healthboard assisted conception dont do scans for letrozole

Rhianne18 · 24/04/2022 11:02

Hello, hope you don't mind me joining!

Back story: I'm 29 and DH is 59. I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS and DH SA came back low, however he'd had covid so need to repeat in 3-4 months. I've been put on 1500 of metformin and 5mg of letrozole. Currently on my third day of letrozole.

We are to try with the letrozole for the next few months, then repeat the SA and if it's still low we're to start IVF.

It's nice to read a thread with other people going through the same thing!

ttcisexhausting · 26/04/2022 18:16

@TheDaydreamBelievers best of luck! :)

@Rhianne18 Hello! Hope your letrozole regimen is going well. Will you be having monitoring scans? Best of luck for the cycle :)

Hello @ttcisexhausting

Thank you for the welcome! We're not having monitoring scans, I don't know if OPK is the best way to test for ovulation or not bother and dtd every other day from day 10 and keep a track of my temperature.

I'm so worried about missing the window!

I see form the thread you've been having trigger shots and monitoring, are you in the TWW now?

ttcisexhausting · 27/04/2022 14:59

@Rhianne18 I think it's definitely a good idea to DTD every other day..that really minimises your chances of missing the window! for the OPKs, I'm not sure. Have you used OPKs before? I used to use them but never got a positive and then I stopped using them..this time after the trigger I asked my nurse but she said it's better not to use them as they are inaccurate for PCOS patients and she said it would give unnecessary stress. But I kinda regret not using them as I'm not sure I ovulated.
I have about a week left in the 2WW..then will do a test - fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I have used them before and I was successful with a positive but really don't know how accurate they were. I might dtd every other day and track my temp too so I know when I have ovulated.

Oh exciting, keeping everything crossed that this is your month, what day are you testing?

ttcisexhausting · 28/04/2022 14:39

@Rhianne18 Yea temperature charting along with dtd is a fool-proof plan, good luck with your cycle - I hope this is your month! xx

I will probably test Monday or Tuesday. Would be 2 weeks after trigger and possible ovulation so hopefully I won't get a false positive..I really hope this is it. This whole journey is so exhausting honestly I don't know what to expect. The highs and lows of 2WW, testing, symptom spotting and the BFNs - it's all just too much.

Rhianne18 · 28/04/2022 16:01

@ttcisexhausting I really hope so too!

I've never heard a truer statement, it really is, I really hope that this is your month, keep us updated on how you get on with testing, really hope it's a BFP!

ttcisexhausting · 28/04/2022 16:49

@Rhianne18 thanks so much, I'll definitely update! Honestly the support from this forum means the world to me, literally! xx

Rhianne18 · 28/04/2022 17:00

@ttcisexhausting I hear you! So grateful to be able to share my experience and people actually understand what it's like! Having this support and being able to chat to people in similar situations, keeps me going!

Wackadoodle84 · 28/04/2022 17:36

Welcome @Rhianne18 , hope the letrozole works for you. How are you finding the tablets. Hopefully you get no side effects other than some nice big follicles

@ttcisexhausting will have everything crossed for you when you do test. Hopefully this will be a lucky month for us all

in 7dpo today, got a notion to test earlier which quickly passed thankfully. I’m not to bad if I’m in work and can keep busy but when I’m at home it’s much harder to resist!

Rhianne18 · 28/04/2022 18:46

@Wackadoodle84 thank you! The metformin have given me side effects, sickness mainly! But thankfully that's now wearing off! I've not noticed anything with the Letrozole!

I totally understand the feeling of needing to test and I agree when you're at home the urge is strong! Hold out, testing too early could cause unneeded disappointment! Have your clinic advised you when to test?

Wackadoodle84 · 28/04/2022 19:07

Hi @Rhianne18 I’ve heard from others that metformin can be hard on the tummy alright. Hopefully it’ll be all worth it

My consultant advised waiting 14 days to test (like I’d have that willpower😂). I’ll wait the 10 days it takes for trigger to be out of system anyways.

Rhianne18 · 28/04/2022 19:13

@Wackadoodle84 exactly! Just hoping they work!

Haha, I agree, the wait is real and I also always cave in too! When is your day 10?
