Anyone looking to pursue IUI treatment in the new year?

I'm currently on cycle 18 with unexplained infertility and waiting for my NHS IVF referral appointment in January. In the meantime DH and I are looking to do some IUI cycles privately while we wait.

I have my baseline scan and consultation with Create Fertility next week.

My test day is this friday for the IUI I had 10/11 days ago. i’m taking progesterone and estrogen again in this TWW but to be honest i feel nothing, zero symptoms whatsoever so im not holding out any hope at all! The plan is if this IUI doesn’t work that I will start the pill and begin a protocol for IVF, I will be on the pill for 2-3 weeks then have a bleed and then kick off my sticks for 10/11 days. With a bit of luck this IUI will work but if not at least we have a plan!

Hi hun @Twittwoo2020 I was suppose to have my 3rd and last IUI this month but got cancelled as I ovulated too soon which normally doesn’t happen with me. And we had sex one night before the test showed me that I already ovulated we still went for my IUI by husband sperm count didn’t come up so great so we took a call and cancelled it.
we are planning to do IUI one last time in May (3rd for me) but this one will also be in medicated. We also have my first IVF nurse meet on May 2nd they will explain us about our protocol in that appointment if IUI in May works great if not straight away going to IVF in June already peeping for it in advance in May while my IUI will be going on, I don’t want waste any further month 😊.

Thanks @Shrut89 & @Twittwoo2020! Amazing how proactive you've both been in sorting out preparation for IVF but I really hope it doesn't come to that. But if it does, just know that it isn't as bad as you'd think. The injections are such a minor and the worst parts for me so far have been all the travelling back and forth and my blood draws. Obviously egg collection, attrition and embryo transfer will definitely change the experience for me, but the beginning bits are a breeze.

@unCliche thank you so much hun and all the best for today, let us know how was the egg retrieval, you even can’t imagine your words give me so much courage for IVF in my head I am just repeating that it’s not much of a deal just few injections. I am sure with your positivity it will be easy for us.

I got 11 eggs! DH produced his sample and they'll be ICSI'd into my eggs. Tomorrow we find out how many were mature, fertilised, etc! The IVF attrition rate is brutal so I can't wait to skip forward to our final blastocyst number! I'll be doing a fresh transfer on Monday too - thank God no OHSS!!

I feel absolutely fine. The sedation was hilarious. The sensation of falling asleep was strange but I enjoyed the experience! After I was awoken, I struggled to keep my eyes open but I eventually managed to wake up fully and also pee before leaving the clinic. Home now in bed and I don't feel any pain whatsoever! Must be the amazing painkillers they stuck up my vagina while asleep 🤣 I await tomorrow's numbers!

@EmzieMurf1987 Eeeek! You must be feeling excited knowing that it's actually happening! Have they given you a breakdown of your protocol and the meds you'll be on? Reclaim Friday 13th as your lucky day! 😄

@Shrut89 Aw I'm pleased my words have helped you. You have nothing to worry about! Everything up until now has been fine! I think not knowing what to expect is the scary bit, but with each step of the way I was given thorough information and never felt confused about what was happening, so I'm sure you'll be well looked after! Just take each step as it comes and don't think about the next step until it's here! I've been quite good at blocking out the process in my head 😬 Take care of yourself and let us know how you're getting on!

Hi @unCliche i wish you all the positive and keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. I hope you get very healthy embryos.
I got my periods today will be taking letrozole for 5 days then IUI on day of ovulation. Hopefully this one works. My husband is scared AF for IVF I am just telling him all the time that nothing to be scared of. It’s just injections and this shall pass too.

@unCliche so glad yr EC went well and by the sounds of things it doesn’t sound too scary! So glad you have the experience to guide me through! That’s the part I’m most worried about! And 11 beautiful eggs to ICSI! Amazing news you must be so pleased, I really hope you get good news on fertilisation rates today 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 And even better that you can have a fresh transfer!! This time next week you will be PUPO!!

yes super happy I now have a rough timeline and an actual start date to down-reg! Will be on burserelin to down-reg then once that’s all confirmed after next AF il start stims - will be on menopur 375IU (slightly concerned as it’s super high but I guess they know what they r doing!) 🤞🏼🤞🏼 No OHSS and will have a fresh ET at day 5 if we get that far!

sounds like u are prepared for the attrition rate which is sensible, I’m hoping for the same as u at least one to transfer and one to freeze - anymore would be a blessing!

@Shrut89 Congrats on AF arriving! Let's get this IUI cycle started! Will you do anything different or add any new vitamins/supplements this cycle? I'm surprised your doctor hasn't changed up your protocol a bit since the first two haven't worked. Will they do anything to prevent early ovulation at least?

@EmzieMurf1987 I've tried PMing you and no luck still. Oh gosh! You'll be injecting for a month! Two weeks of Buserelin and then two weeks of Menopur! How do you feel about that? Whoa 375iu! That's so high but I suppose you'll get a good ovarian response with that! I wish I started off a bit higher and maybe I'd have more eggs, but quality over quantity and blah blah blah 😂 The UK are very conservative when it comes to how much they push your ovaries so the doctors will do anything they can to prevent OHSS. I was high risk of OHSS and I managed to avoid it - crazy! So you'll be fine and we'll hopefully both be pregnant very soon!

I got a call updating me on my eggs today. 5 were immature, 6 were fertilised with ICSI and all 6 fertilised successfully! I hope I can get a good number to day 5! I hope DH's sperm really show up for my embryos and do a good job at keeping them alive!

@unCliche so glad your EC went well. They are really positive numbers. Keeping everything crossed for you for your day 5 results.

My clinic bloods are tomorrow but i did a home test FRER this morning and nothing so doesn’t look like this IUI round worked either. Disappointed but not entirely shocked either, it’s almost like a negative is expected after so long trying i’ve just gotten used to it.

@EmzieMurf1987 i think my clinic are going to put me on the pill for 2/3 weeks before starting stims it seems to be the norm. So right now i’m a little unclear on timelines i guess i’ll know more tomorrow when i speak to the nurse.

I'm starting my second IUI next month. Going for unmedicated this time as had a rough time on clomid for my first go. So have my day 10 scan booked in for a week tomorrow and will go from there 😁

Thats true @unCliche my doctor is not changing my IUI protocol at all, looks like she is not even interested for IUI she is like go for IVF but we wanted to do this last IUI for our satisfaction. Nope no medication for preventing early ovulation as well.
@Twittwoo2020 don’t worry hun, don’t loose hope. are you gonna try one more IUI or going for IVF straight.
@Nellie90 i am sailing on the same boat no stims for IUI just letrozole and it’s so frustrating my doc says if she gives me any injectable I might end up with multiples as my amh is high.

I last messaged to say that my second IUI for our second child (our first child, who has just turned 2, was conceived on the 5th IUI!) was a BFP and everything seemed fine until we had our 6.5 week scan and baby was only measuring 5 weeks but there was a heartbeat. We went back for another scan at 8.5 weeks and baby was only measuring 5.5 weeks and there was no heartbeat so I had a missed miscarriage. That was 2 weeks ago and I've just finished bleeding so now we're waiting for my next period so we can have a go at our 3rd IUI!

@unCliche amazing news 6 beautifully fertilised eggs! You must be so happy with that! I deffo agree with the quality over quantity thing - hence the being a bit nervous starting on such a big dose 😵‍💫. Ya lots of injections - burserelin to start, then burserelin and menopur, then trigger, then lubion injections - my tummy will be like a pin cushion I’d say 😂😂 but I’d do injections forever if it gave me the chance to be a mum one day 🥰🥰. Will you get another update on progress before Monday? I’m literally sooooooo excited for u!

@TwoMommies so sorry to hear of your MC. Be kind to yourself. It’s lovely to hear that you are going for another IUI - hopefully AF arrives soon for you and you can get the ball rolling again!

@Shrut89 I really hope this time your cycle isn’t cancelled! It’s a shame when it feels like your Dr isn’t doing anything pro-active to help, I changed Drs and now feel way happier as I can voice any concerns and they have acted on them and I deffo feel they r more invested in getting me pregnant. I felt a bit like a cash cow with my last one. I would say to speak up if your not happy or change clinics/Drs if your still not 100%.

@Twittwoo2020 so sorry to hear of your negative result. I totally get how you feel being used to negative results! 4 years TTC and not one BFP it’s soul destroying, heartbreaking and just feels totally unfair!! This whole process I think has made me numb to emotion at times. Good luck with your nurse consult today, hopefully you will get an idea of when you can start your IVF process. My old clinic would have used the pill to down-reg too (microgynon) but I had an awful time on it. My new one uses burserelin injections 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ I think different clinics do things differently it’s all so individual too.

Sorry to hear you had a bad time on clomid, hopefully I medicated will suit you better and we get some good news soon.

@Twittwoo2020 Oh lovely, I'm so sorry. I don't know why we keep drawing the short straw but our time will come. You've done amazing to get your next steps sorted, and I can only hope that IVF is exactly what you need to finally hold a baby in your arms. I'm thinking of you! I know this isn't an IVF thread but I'd still love to hear how you get on.

@Shrut89 I've also found doctor's attitude towards IUIs to be pretty negative. I actually had a doctor tell me we're wasting our time because it's not going to work. Thanks... 🙄 But you have every chance it works for you and many women have found success so get your satisfaction and hopefully we'll get some good news from you soon!

@TwoMommies I have no words. I'm incredibly sorry. You're so strong diving right back into another IUI attempt and I wish you continued strength and courage but don't forget to look after yourself too. We're here for you, rooting for you and praying for the best!

@EmzieMurf1987 You'll be injecting your progesterone too?? I have pessaries - that I can deal with, but having to inject through your TWW and then everyday for 12 weeks into your pregnancy. Wow! Are there no other options other than injections, you'll end up running out of unstabbed stomach 😂 But I'd 100% do it if it gave me a baby too. How are you sourcing your meds?
Yes, next update is tomorrow to see how many make it to day 3, then I think another call on Sunday to arrange a transfer for Monday. I just hope that we have good quality embryos, including some to freeze.

@unCliche I’ll have pessaries and injections for progesterone support - I’ve always had low progesterone and an LP of 7-9 days. Previously on pessaries I still never made it to OTD without AF arriving so wanted something on top and consultant agreed so here we are with even more injectables but hopefully it will be worth it! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I'm officially PUPO with two to freeze and another two still growing!

They transfered a 4BB and I have another 4BB and a 3CC frozen.

I'm so glad we managed to get to a point where we actually had blastocysts to transfer - we are very blessed 💕
