I know I'm a bit early but knowing that I get to start in January I think I'll go mad just twiddling my thumbs until then.

With Christmas clinic closures I think there's a fair few of us around waiting for Jan to start, so hopefully we can gather here for support in the mean time?

About me - 33 years old (although I turn 34 in Jan!), TTC#1 for two years with unexplained infertility. Am due to start my first ever round of IVF in January (NHS). I've been told I'll do short protocol and in terms of next steps I've got a trial embryo transfer in two weeks' time, and both OH and I have to get blood tests done in Dec. I can order my meds from the pharmacy in Dec as well so got that to look forward to ha.

I'm currently predicted to start my cycle on the 31st of Dec which would mean having to wait a whole cycle due to the new year bank holiday getting in the way. My cycle can vary by a few days though so I'm really hoping CD1 actually comes a day or two later!

@Jennie154 Glad your transfer is going ahead but I know it must feel stressful hearing that the quality isn't great. IT's so hard but try to keep a neutral mindset about it. The best place for that embryo is back inside you and quality isn't always a sign that the embryo can make it. Fingers crossed you have a fighter there x

Coops0406 · 17/01/2022 09:59

@Aimz40 so sorry to hear about all you have been through. It's such a hard and emotional journey. Really hoping for a positive scan for you today 🥰 and also, just remember that the scan is just a bit of a guide, my last round the scan showed less follicles than the amount of eggs they got at EC!

@Jennie154 good luck for your transfer! I've heard so many stories of the best quality embryos not making it but the lesser quality ones going all the way...sending lots of sticky baby dust your way!

@Vslightlystressy hope the scan goes well, is that to check your lining is all ready?

Just on our way for our scan, done the last stims (hopefully ever!) this morning so we'll see what they say 🤞🏾

Bluehawaii29 · 17/01/2022 10:13

@Jennie154 Hi Jennie, wishing you all the best for your transfer. Since having a 5AA day 5 blastocyst which I was told was perfect and it didn’t work I too have heard that it’s often the lesser ones that do better so don’t lose hope and keep positive this little one to stick xx

Aimz40 · 17/01/2022 10:49

@Frenchiepupmama I had the prostap injection my first round of ivf, I ruined the injection when preparing it and had a total meltdown because it was the weekend and I had no one to talk to or get another injection from, I thought I would have to wait another month to start my cycle, luckily I was able to get another and take it in the monday, it didn't make a difference. I had buserelin the next cycle, so I'm glad I didn't ever have to use it again!

@Jennie154 That's great the Transfer is going ahead, like bluehawaii29 was saying, I have heard that the lower ones stick. When I was upset about the quality of mine at the last transfer, I had loads of people telling me that theirs had worked.

@Coops0406 thank you for your kind words, I have just been for my scan, I have 7 follicles in total, 3 that are "really taking off" I've got my next scan on weds. The first round I had a similar number at my first scan and ended up with 10 eggs, so hopefully I can get a few more. I've got low amh and poor quality eggs, so I'm hoping to get a few to give me a chance to find that one good egg.

Hopeful199 · 17/01/2022 11:02

Hi @Justawannabemam,

I think it is worth dropping a note to the nurses. I always feel better asking the question and knowing something can be done if it needs to be and at least they will know where you are at. From what i read previously, if it doesn't come then eventually they give you something else to force the bleed.

I didn't get any symptoms other than headache and wine :)

I am still in down reg though as haven't responded as quickly as the hoped so it can be a longish process to get there.

Dobcaty · 17/01/2022 11:07

Morning girls, just got the call from the clinic, with some news. All the 6 are dividing however they all graded B- and C so we are having 2 back today, and the rest of them stay in to see if any develop more by day5 for a possibility of freezing. While I was talking with the embryologist not giving to much hope and I've already lost faith. I know first IVF success are rare, and I prepped myself for this possibility too and I know we still have a chance.

I need to turn my thinking I will be officially PUPO from today afternoon and as far as I know it never happened before, but feeling very low and down now.

Justawannabemam · 17/01/2022 11:07

I'm going to call them now.

Last time I was due on within the 1st week and that came .
This time I should have come on yesterday ish). I'll give them a ring . We are 2 n half drive away so I'm hoping it either comes soon or they can send a prescription over here for me.

Jennie154 · 17/01/2022 11:13

Thanks for all your message, they really help. @Dobcaty fingers crossed for your little embryos. X

Hopeful199 · 17/01/2022 11:34

@Justawannabemam..... typo.... wind not wine!! doh!

my AF was 3 days late on the Buserelin. Hope they can sort it for you!

@Dobcaty thinking of you and keeping everything crossed x

Coops0406 · 17/01/2022 11:45

@Aimz40 that sounds positive! Sounds like a nice amount coming along, and things will change again for your final scan 😊

@Dobcaty keep the hope up. And yes, by this afternoon you will be PUPO, they will be back in their best environment. Keeping everything crossed for all your embryos 🤞🏾

We just had our final scan, lots of follicles, I think 16 on left and 12 on right. But only actually about 4 at the right size and 4 just under, the rest are too small. So they will do egg collection on Wednesday as originally planned, just waiting to hear what time. As usual, all the hard work done by the left ovary! The right has a cyst and only small follicles.
So now, no lunch out for us as I’m isolating until egg collection 🤦🏾‍♀️ but I think we’ll definitely get something nice to eat!

Bluehawaii29 · 17/01/2022 11:45

@Dobcaty hi I can imagine how you feel as I did my first fresh cycle in late nov 2021 and also thought it would be too good to be true for the first one to work and had doubts in my mind even when they transferred a 5AA on day 5 but it definitely makes a difference how your embryologist talks to you. Mine was very abrupt and didn’t say anything nice really about our embryos despite all 5 being very good quality and 4 now frozen. Since then I’ve spoken to the lead embryologist and told her we didn’t want to talk to that lady again this time round and this lady is much more upbeat and positive. Was yours quite negative today? Just wondering if that made you feel worse xx

Jennie154 · 17/01/2022 11:56

All done. Transfer was a simple painless procedure. They have given me a testing date if 5th Feb, such a long way away

WhiteLily86 · 17/01/2022 12:08

Hey ladies 👋

Sorry I joined at first then got all negative when my November period came and dropped off the chat.

Congrats to @juno231 amazing news!

I am also Aberdeen and got a call just after christmas to ask my covid vax status. I was waiting until Jan to get my booster in case I felt unwell during Xmas holidays! However they said my treatment would have to be delayed if I didn't have it so I got it in between Xmas and NY. Agree though, absolutely shocking that they can do that (and I am a complete pro- vaxxer!!!)

How are you getting on @hjen22 - did you have your nurses appointment?

Glad it all went well @jennie154 so many of us ladies are willing this one embryo on ❤️

I am on norethisterone since 10th jan. Due baseline scan 26th jan and estimated EC around 9th feb I think.

Bit nervous about EC, I know some ladies are saying they get general anaesthetic for it. Wondering if we can request this at Aberdeen, if anyone knows?

Also, how is everyone coping work wise? I have called doctor and going to request 3 weeks or so on sick leave. I live quite far from my centre, so I can't just nip there in my lunch break 😂 and want some headspace to go through this and my work (desk based, currently WFH) is really busy. Not sure how everyone manages time off with so many appointments and such short notice?

HJen22 · 17/01/2022 12:19

@WhiteLily86 hey there! I've been reading everyone's updates but my cycle will be feb/March. Wishing everyone success with collections and transfers ❤️

We did thanks, we had it last Tuesday! She was lovely. I am to call when my period arrives this month and should be starting norethisterone around 16th Feb! How are you getting? I just handed in the letter from clinic today for the prescription!

I'm sorry you have been caught up in the whole Covid vaccine issue. Glad you only had the booster to get!

I've spoken to my boss and she said to do whatever I need to do. So I think if I need sick days or signed off or anything like that she will be fine with it. Her friend has been through ivf so I'm hoping that makes her more understanding. So far she has been. I'm WFH but a lot can change in weeks and months. I think it's a good idea to have the option to have time off work for sure. Don't need the added stress! So do what is right for you. I'm stonehaven so yeah appointments won't be quick for me either!

crazycatlady1981 · 17/01/2022 12:28

Hi ladies! Hope you don’t mind if I join you!
I’ve just started my 2nd round of IVF, long protocol, first injection of buserelin done today!! 😬
First round we got 5 eggs, 4 fertilised, 1x day 5 blastocyst transferred and 1x day 6 blasto frozen. Both fresh and frozen embryos failed to implant.
Giving it one last shot as both DH and I are over 40 now and we’ve been ttc for nearly 5 years, so keeping everything crossed for our final round!

Good luck to everyone who’s transferring today!! 🤞🏻💕

tulipsandsnow · 17/01/2022 12:41

@crazycatlady1981 welcome and good luck on your 2nd cycle!

@WhiteLily86 i'm one of those that does general for EC, but as I understand it my clinic is a bit of a rarity that they do it as standard/it is no big deal for them. Some clinics either won't or is an extra charge/process etc. Most ladies report EC under normal sedation very straight forward, I just have a special situation that doesn't make it possible for me

@Dobcaty sorry to hear none are high graded, there is definitely hope and good luck with your transfer!

@Jennie154 congrats on your transfer everything crossed!

For me I'm waiting for day 3 results tmrrw morning! Then day 5 on thursday, most nervous for that. This is a planned freeze-all cycle and will PGT-A any blasts

Hopeful199 · 17/01/2022 12:42

Hi @WhiteLily86 welcome back!

If all goes well this week we will be on a similar timeline

Workwise, i am lucky in that i work on project work so have bene able to shift meetings around without too much problem so far. Obviously I am sure that will get harder as time goes on. I have told my boss, which i wasn't originally going to do, but trying to hide it and explain myself was more stressful!

Im kind of the opposite in that i need to keep busy otherwise I will go crazy in this process!

Janefx40 · 17/01/2022 12:55

@Jennie154 congrats and fingers crossed. Now you can relax and be nice to yourself!

Bec18x · 17/01/2022 12:57

I've just had my first update from the clinic, so out of the 36 eggs collected yesterday 16 were mature and 11 have fertilised. I knew that due to pcos and high AMH I would have lots of eggs and my husband has low morphology so I was worried about how many will fertilise but I'm really happy with 11. My next update is on Wednesday.
Any advice on how to prepare for transfer and vitamins I should/shouldn't take now?

Bluehawaii29 · 17/01/2022 12:59

@HJen22 @seathistle @Lotusflower1990000
I’m doing my first frozen transfer feb/March and this time working from home for 2 weeks instead of taking a full two weeks off like I did in my first fresh cycle. I felt that I went crazy with that much time off and afterwards was told I didn’t even need bed rest. I’ve provisionally booked about a week off around 25th feb to early March which is my guess dates for when transfer will be and then I’ll adjust it nearer the time but I think for me the first three days off after transfer should hopefully be enough and then I should be ok working from home. Hopefully it will take my mind off it but it’s no joke, the 2WW really is a killer!

Dobcaty · 17/01/2022 13:15

@Bluehawaii29 sorry probably I expressed myself on the wrong way. She was lovely as she can be. But because I rather have the real chance than false hope I asked her honest opinion. And its the half of as an A grade. She tried to cheer me up saying they had success these grade before but every one of us is different.

Bluehawaii29 · 17/01/2022 13:20

@Dobcaty oh sorry my misunderstanding, I’m not too familiar with the day 3 grading system but know A grade is meant to be good for day 5 embryos. I think in general what I’ve learnt is not to get too hung up on the grades and like you said everyone is so different with their stories so you can never tell if it might work. Praying yours does x

PcosSOS · 17/01/2022 13:28

@Bec18x Amazing news, I got 11 fertilised too and my husband also has low morphology (though the sample he gave was borderline normal and the best yet!). Did you have ICSI? Best of luck with your 11!

@Janefx40 I've just read your message about having a HCG injection at egg collection and I'm worried as I have Ovitrelle & Buserelin as triggers but have had nothing aside from Progesterone pessaries since egg collection. Do you know if you have HCG injections if using only Buserelin?

PcosSOS · 17/01/2022 13:30

@Janefx40 Ignore me, I've just googled and Ovitrelle is HCG. I swear that this whole IVF journey has taken a real toll on my brain!!

Bec18x · 17/01/2022 13:53

@PcosSOS thank you! And yes we done ICSI. What stage are you at? How many did you have by day 5?
