Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

@Herewegoagain83 already has her bfp! So it can be done (although she’s nearly a year younger than me!)

If mine works this time it’ll be with 36 year old eggs anyway, but hopefully they haven’t gone off too much meanwhile :-/ Do you have a date for EC yet @FingersXssd83

Herewegoagain83 · 19/05/2021 11:14

And my embryos aged 37 were graded better than aged 34!

whatcangowrong · 19/05/2021 16:40

I’m dying with this wait I think it’s worse than last time as it’s my last shot before jabs and £££

Only on day 3. Can’t even consider testing for 2 more days at the very very least and even then it’d be too early Sad

whatcangowrong · 19/05/2021 16:43

@Herewegoagain83 my hope of a third miracle child is alive again after your news that embryos do in fact get better with age like a fine wine Grin.

FingersXssd83 · 19/05/2021 16:59

Sorry @whatcangowrong I was getting confused and forgot that you were doing a FET. When is your test day? Hope you are feeling ok.

Aww that's great to hear @Herewegoagain83 Hoping my eggs improve too!

Trigger is tonight and EC midday on Friday. Have 8 follicles in the running. Feeling strangely positive and excited (and also just want them out as I'm feeling a little uncomfortable waddling about now!).

Just need to decide whether to do a fresh or freeze all cycle once we know what we've got and have had chance to speak with the doctors and embryologists further.

@FingersXssd83 8 follies is great, sounds like great opportunity for a fresh potentially?

@whatcangowrong hang in there!

whatcangowrong · 20/05/2021 09:12

Awesome news @FingersXssd83. 8 was my lucky number last time :)

OTD is Wednesday the 25th but since loads of clinics say 9 days I’m thinking 24th. Who am I kidding I’ll test Monday at the latest 🙄

How are you feeling @Herewegoagain83 ? Do you have a scan booked?

Herewegoagain83 · 20/05/2021 09:18

@whatcangowrong yes scan is booked for 8th June, which is quite far away at 7+5 but we are on holiday the week before which isn't great timing wise now. I think I'll then book a private scan for 9-10wks as all my friends who've had miscarriages have had them around 8wks so I don't think I'll rest easy until after that.

whatcangowrong · 20/05/2021 11:17

Yes I remember that anxiety. The odds are in your favour and improve with every passing day but it’s hard not to worry.

BuffyFanForever · 20/05/2021 12:20

Congrats to those who’ve had good news!
Had my second consultation with the Dr this morning and my AMH has dropped from 40 to 12 so very likely I will have an early menopause at some point. On the plus side she’s happy for me to go ahead with egg collection fingers crossed next month. Will then probably have to wait a few more months after that (if it’s successful) before we have a FET as they won’t do it till min 9 months after C section. This is it our last go. Trying to be calm and peaceful about it, it’s worth a try but if it doesn’t work it isn’t mean to be and I’m so grateful for our twins. Any one recommend a cheap place for the meds?!

Herewegoagain83 · 20/05/2021 12:59

Asda were cheap when I called them the other day.

I have to say I'm in awe of all you ladies trying so soon after your first ones, even obviously with the background of all our various issues. I couldn't have dealt with another so soon! My DD took until nearly 2 to sleep through the night and refused a bottle so it couldn't have been further from my mind when she was under 1! Grin

BuffyFanForever · 20/05/2021 13:33

Kinda figure getting all the chaos at once makes sense! Also with my low amh don’t have an option to wait any later...

Herewegoagain83 · 20/05/2021 15:24

@BuffyFanForever the drop must be worrying for you, but it's still a good number number work with. Mine was 9 on first cycle and 6 on second Smile

BuffyFanForever · 20/05/2021 21:52

@Herewegoagain83 oh really? Thanks for that, makes me feel abit better, looking at charts etc online it kept saying it was average for a 47 year old 😳

Herewegoagain83 · 20/05/2021 22:02

@BuffyFanForever no that's not right at all!

This is a good guide www.simply-fertility.com/a-guide-to-amh/
So in the lower end of the 30-39 group but plenty high enough to get a good response from the stims.

whatcangowrong · 21/05/2021 08:44

@Herewegoagain83 so far we have been blessed with a very easy baby who sleeps really well... it could all backfire if the next one is a nightmare and the first regresses!!! But given it takes 9 months to cook a baby, I feel very ready to get on with it. Also quite want to change jobs at some point but I figured better to inflict all my maternity leave on one company and go to the next place ready to get stuck in! And yeah, then there’s the age/infertility factor too! Wish we had started a little bit earlier but had to give it a proper go naturally first I guess 🙄

whatcangowrong · 21/05/2021 08:47

@BuffyFanForever my Amh was measured at 7 before my first round, and I got 4 embryos from that. It’s since gone up, maybe due to the ubiqunol etc or less stress the doctor said? Anyway, it’s not the be all and end all and you’ll be in good company doing ivf with that number, your doctor will probably even consider it pretty positive as they see actual low numbers all the time!

whatcangowrong · 21/05/2021 08:49

Managed not to test with fmu this morning. Hopefully that will keep me going until tomorrow when I may cave - 6dp5dt. In 2 minds, if I can possibly wait until Monday that would obviously be better. It’s a question as to whether I want to let it ruin my weekend or next week I fear Confused

BuffyFanForever · 21/05/2021 09:15

@whatcangowrong well done for holding out so far this morning! Split the difference and test Sunday morning? Then u have the day to feel great/ rubbish depending on outcome without having to go straight to work?
Thanks for the positives about AMH everyone. It’s the last vial of sperm we have so if they can get some eggs and make an embryo then we can give it a good go and if not then we know we are finished. Potentially wasting all that money again tho...🤦‍♀️🙄 but we all do what we’ve got to do don’t we! Is it tempting fate if we get a slightly bigger car when my wife has to give back her lease one?!

whatcangowrong · 21/05/2021 09:46

@BuffyFanForever - I am seeing my whole family on Sunday and half of them are pregnant, newly announced. With babies similar age to mine. So that’s why I feel Sunday is out really, as I also got my bfp on 7dp last time so a bfn will throw me. Saturday, if it’s a negative I still have some hope for Monday. Or wait til Monday I think.

FingersXssd83 · 21/05/2021 13:40

They got 3 eggs. So disappointed 😞

OP posts:
Forecast123 · 21/05/2021 13:54

So sorry to hear that @FingersXssd83. I only got three eggs on my last round and can remember how upsetting it was. But in the end two made it to day 5 and I ended up pregnant with one frozen so it’s still possible! I have my fingers crossed for you.

FingersXssd83 · 21/05/2021 14:03

Thank you @Forecast123 That's just what I needed to hear 😘

OP posts:
whatcangowrong · 21/05/2021 14:49

Sorry to hear that @FingersXssd83 try not to despair too much until you hear how they are getting on. Hopefully they’re good ones xx

FingersXssd83 · 21/05/2021 14:57

Thanks @whatcangowrong We got 4 eggs in our last successful cycle, all four fertilised and we did two double 3 day FETS, the second of which gave us our baby.

Cycles before that all gave us blasts, so based on past outcomes hopefully quality won't be too crap.

It's just hard, knowing there were so few and I'm on the max dose. I'm obviously not the ideal candidate for success but we are lucky that it has happened before so hopefully it will do again.

And if we transfer on Monday at day three, then a 30% chance of a BFP is definitely worth a shot.

Can't wait to get home to my precious DD now 👶🏻
