Hi thanks for the add (though a different, more apt name now!)

I'm 3 days away from my period and after that begins my first cycle.

Still in complete shock but there you go. Life has proven to me that nothing is a given and the last 18 months have probably made me a better person, strangely.

Wish everyone all the best! X

Thanks for the add @ivfhope3. Hope you're well?

I'm so sorry to hear that you're still waiting for your period ☹️

Which clinic are you having your IVF with?

I was umming and erring between Create and Oxford Fertility but have now decided to go ahead with Oxford Fertility. My nurse appointment is Wednesday 7th October.

I'm a bit surprised that the two clinics suggested very different approaches. Create pushed for mild IVF with minimal medication so not to impact my egg quality. Whereas Oxford want to go full blown with maximum medication as they want to maximise the number of eggs collected. In the end I went with Oxford as the doctors seemed a lot more approachable and convincing.

I was hoping to do the short protocol but the doctors advised long protocol is more appropriate for me given my low ovarian reserve.

Anyone going through long protocol?

Wishing everyone the best of luck in your journeys and look forward celebrating positive outcomes for all of us! Xxx

ivfhope3 · 02/10/2020 19:11

@BrandyM I'm with care. Well they have just been taken over by care..

It's so hard choosing a clinic I just went with the one closest. I said about mild ivf they don't offer it there. An said as they can't get a lot of eggs with the mild.
The more eggs the more chance they basically said.

I'm at my wits end with this period now.

Xx

Thanks for the add @ivfhope3!
Just waiting for period to arrive which should be today, but just have massive boobs and a bloated tummy, hopefully it’ll arrive soon and I’ll get some relief!
I’m dreading adding more hormones in as I fear I may be somewhat irrational... I’ve briefed a couple of colleagues so they can run interference if I get ragey or burst in to random tears but I don’t really want to make it general knowledge..
I feel a bit weird really, like it’s a process but there are so many hurdles to get over before I even get to the TWW I’m pretty chilled out, I don’t think I’ll know how I truly feel until this either works, or doesn’t if that makes sense? Maybe I’m odd..
I only had 6 follicles at my scan so I think I’m also managing my own expectations too, but what a brilliant thing to have to freak out autvif it does work!
@BrandyM yep I’m on long, so we’re in it for the haul! Grin

BrandyM · 02/10/2020 19:36

@ivfhope3 yes going with the one closest is definitely a smart move!

Glad to hear that your clinic gave you the same advice re mild IVF as my clinic with regards to it not resulting in too many eggs. At least there is some consistency in advice between the clinics. Phew!

Fingers crossed your period arrives soon! Keep us posted!

@Freezerbump, I'm very worried about adding more hormones too. I mean my normal hormones during AF make me so grumpy I'm dreading to think what the down regulation hormones would do to my mood. Poor husband! Haha 😂

I also only had 6 follicles at my scan two weeks ago. I then had my low AMH result last week that confirmed that I have low ovarian reserve. They said the chances of IVF success for me is just around 20% so really disheartening to go in such an intense process knowing there is an 80% chance of failure.

The doctor hasn't been very clear on what's involved in the long protocol. Any guidance on what down regulation involves would be much appreciated. I'm clear on the process once stims begin but not clear on the bit before that!

Xxx

@ivfhope3 thanks for setting this up! I can’t believe it’s October already...

@BrandyM I’m downregging at the minute. It’s just one injection of buserelin a day (same time every day). My first round it was 7am but Care day 7pm which is a logistical nightmare!!! 7am was great as would do it before leaving for work but now need to make sure I’m at home. Met some friends for dinner the other night and had to do the injection in the car before! Not really telling anyone this time. Around day 10 of downreg you should get a period, then call the clinic and they’ll ask you to come in for a scan. If your ovaries are ‘off’ and lining is thin then they’ll get you to start stims. I barely had any side effects last round but this time I’ve had a headache for a few days and also bruising easily from the injections, no idea why. Hope this helps!

We also get conflicting information regarding eggs. Some clinics will say the more eggs the better as technically it gives you a higher chance of success - some say that collecting too many can then compromise on quality. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

I’ve got my downreg scan on Monday so hoping to start stims next week. Egg collection should be in around 2 weeks...I can’t believe I’m saying that, it feels so soon 😱

Freezerbump · 02/10/2020 20:08

@BrandyM hiya, yep, what the last lady said, down regging turns off your cycle so your body doesn't start prepping next months eggs right away, so you should have your normal period, call the clinic and 7 days later you go for a scan and they confirm you're turned off.

Once that happens they start stimming so it wakes all of your follicles up together, instead of just the one, and they all start growing eggs at the same time, instead of just one.

The downreg allows the clinic to take full control of your cycle so they should be able to control the growing and ovulation times pretty well to make sure it's the best time to suck them all out and catch them :)

I jab between 6-7 pm, apparently if you bru is there may be air in the syringe, try giving it a good few taps and getting rid of any bubbles, mine seem to be ok at the moment other than looking a bit like a pincushion... I've found a bit on my right lower tummy that doesn't hurt at all but as this goes on I'll run out of room I think!

Raggity19 · 02/10/2020 20:50

@Freezerbump thanks - my partners been doing them so I’ll get him to double check!! They’re also making me bleed?! X

Lolly2020 · 02/10/2020 21:00

Hi everyone I'm on day 2 of my injections, short protocol. I'm due for a scan next Friday. This is my first round of IVF so very new to it.

Freezerbump · 02/10/2020 21:02

@Raggity19 probably holding the pinch too long? I did that once... depends on your needles but the ones I use are the .5ml insulin ones?
They have a cap on the plunge end and one on the needle end, once you take the needle end one off you can push the plunger down fully before you suck up the liquid, or you'll always get a big old bubble in there :)

Pinch and jab in, then I release pinch and just slowly push plunger, hold for a count of 3, and pull out straight and quick, give that a go? X

Freezerbump · 02/10/2020 21:03

Hi @Lolly2020 I'm new at this also but they're a lovely bunch :) welcome

Raggity19 · 02/10/2020 21:11

@Freezerbump you’re a star, we’ll give it a go! X

BrandyM · 03/10/2020 00:14

@Raggity19 and @Freezerbump thanks both so much! The whole process is so mind boggling and I'm so grateful to receive insight from those that are going through it.

My doctor mentioned that I'll be down regulating using a nasal spray to sniff and didn't mention injections. Not sure if anyone is on this for downreg?

@Raggity19 good luck with your scan on Monday! Let us know how you get on x

@Lolly2020 another newbie here. Welcome:) X

jm2020 · 03/10/2020 12:09

Hi Ladies,

Just had an update from my clinic only 3 of my 10 eggs have fertilized - quite shocked tbh! 2 were abnormal and 5 immature. Doing a day 3 transfer on Monday now cause of the low numbers.

:(

x

Freezerbump · 03/10/2020 12:55

Hi @BrandyM yep you can have a buserilyn nasal spray apparently :) I just have the jabs I think they may be a bit cheaper?

@jm2020 3 is great! Good luck with your transfer :)
