Hi ladies, I’ve been through all of my fertility screening tests etc and am due to start my first and hopefully only round of IVF (positive vibes Smile ) soon. I’m looking to share my hopes, experiences and tips and provide support to anyone else expecting to start a cycle soon. The more the merrier!

Yeh me....but I'm hoping that it doesn't come to that. We had an appointment booked for the prostap when we went into lockdown. Will be gutted if we get postponed again. @ThePurpleFairy is this your first round?

JandL2020 · 11/09/2020 21:52

@ThePurpleFairy yes a little. I went out for a walk today to clear my head and twice my watch pinged with news of R number up and Birmingham stricter lockdown, plus obviously England reduced to 6 now. It just got me thinking what is this accelerates and I don’t go to transfer. But I just hope with the new measures people are sensible. At the end of the day our clinics are covid secure workplaces otherwise they can’t open. I think worst comes to worst they will have to be even stricter and test all patients prior to treatment and along cycles/ask to self isolate now we are heading into winter. My clinic are the most relaxed I’ve come across - temp checks and allow partners in for egg collection (pre and post procedure) and during the embryo transfer. But maybe that may change now. I would be gutted if he can’t be there but I would completely understand and accept that he can’t be. X

Tara8 · 12/09/2020 08:23

Yes I am! That would just be so cruel if that happened when we have all come so far. @ThePurpleFairy had you already done all your injections etc when they cancelled your collection last time? I can't imagine how awful that must have been for you and others that have been through that! I can't actually remember the last time I went to our clinic as everything is done via Zoom now, it must have been July? We have to again on 22nd September for the HIV blood tests, I think that will be the fourth time we've had that test as apparently they're only valid for 3 months...that just shows how long we've had to wait each time.
Hope everyone is doing well x

ThePurpleFairy · 12/09/2020 09:22

@Mrsmch123 yes this is my first round, all very nerve wracking!

@JandL2020 I was worried about this but I’m pretty sure he will have to come in for egg collection because obviously he needs to do his part Grin I haven’t really worried about transfer yet as that will be a long way off for me, PGD is freeze all and the waiting list for FET is months long.

@Tara8 no I had not injected yet, I had fought for an egg collection date for about 6 weeks, finally got mid June given to me in Feb and then a few weeks later in March they called me to say it was all off. They called me in July to say they were starting back up and that I was booked in for w/c 5 October. Because all my embryos will need to be biopsied then frozen, they book my egg collection according to the lab slot that I have for DNA testing and then work backwards - complicated stuff! I also have to have those blood tests done next week again, I last had it done in January!

One concern I do have is that my meds say store between 15-25 degrees and we had a couple of super hot days in August! My thermostat on my house said 25.5 a few times, everything was in the box in the front room of my house which is the coolest so I’m praying that all the drugs are alright!

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 12/09/2020 09:44

Hey ladies!

I’m going for my transfer on Monday!!! Wohooo!

Mrsmch123 · 12/09/2020 10:44

It's my first round as well. My clinic doesn't allow partners. On the fb page for my clinic one woman had to take her husbands contribution....not ideal

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 12/09/2020 17:45

No partners allowed to egg collection or transfer at my clinic either but it’s ok as you’re not there long xx

ThePurpleFairy · 12/09/2020 18:24

Oh that’s interesting! I hope they don’t do that to us! We have to travel to a hospital in London so we will be in a hotel, I hope they don’t make me take the contribution myself Shock! I’m really bad in hospitals as well, I usually rely on my husband to manage my anxiety (or at least just steer me around while I look at the floor) so I really hope this isn’t the case Confused

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 12/09/2020 19:07

Your clinic might be different and I felt anxious too but you’ll be ok and he could still travel with you and wait in Travelodge or car xx

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 12/09/2020 19:07

Sorry read your message as travellodge! Tired today! If you call your clinic they will tell you there current rules xx

monsterad · 12/09/2020 20:42

Hi, I'm starting in October too xx

Raggity19 · 12/09/2020 23:01

Hi ladies, can I join?

This is our second round, we are having IVF with ICSI due to MFI. Our last round ended with zero fertilisation - they think the frozen sperm didn’t survive the thaw so we are doing completely fresh this cycle and DP will have his SSR whilst I have my EC. I have been on the pill for 2 weeks now and starting down regging in a week. Having a slightly longer down reg so that I can coincide my egg collection with half term. Really not wanting to tell work this time round but starting to get a little nervous re social distancing etc (I’m a teacher) and feel like maybe I should..good luck everyone! xx

Mrsmch123 · 13/09/2020 07:18

Hi @Raggity19, we have MFI as well. I've told my boss at work who is my friend so it's the only reason i told her. I get weekly Covid testing at work so that is offering me a little reassurance. Good luck

MF1981 · 13/09/2020 14:38

My clinic say they are allowing partners to attend key appointments only so injection lesson, egg collection, transfer and 6 week scan if successful.

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 13/09/2020 19:25

Awww I wish mine were doing this. Transfer tomorrow and just me allowed but it’s ok I get the day off work which I’m excited about! 🤣

ThePurpleFairy · 13/09/2020 19:50

I’m in a Facebook group for people having the same as me at the London hospital, their partners went with them for egg collection recently so that’s a bit of good news. They said that there’s no way they could remember the instructions they were given themselves after the sedation!

granddesigns · 14/09/2020 11:11

Hi all - catching up on the thread. Good luck today @UncleBrynsfishingtrip - recognise your name from a previous thread (but have been part of a few now!)

Officially started our cycle on sat although first 7 days of down reg part is pill to avoid cysts forming again when I do the Prostap . Prostap due next sat and down regulation scan on 29th. Hoping it goes smoother than down reg last time!

lucyinthe · 14/09/2020 14:35

Hi ladies, just catching up been off here for a while.

I'm in a constant state of worry that the covid spike is going to mean a cancelled FET - that already happened to us in March a week after I started down reg injections. I'm just hoping the nightingale hospitals will mean there isn't a strain on main hospitals (our clinic is part of a main hospital so we were cancelled before independent clinics closed last time).

Hope you're all doing well anyway, good luck to anyone having egg collections and transfers over the next few days 🤞🏼 I'm on day 5 of buserelin injections, no side effects yet thank god, trying to eat healthy and work out 4 times a week. Hoping the tiredness and mood swings don't kick in anytime soon! X

UncleBrynsfishingtrip · 14/09/2020 14:46

Thanks for all the good luck messages. Hust got home from the clinic and all went well. 🤞 Transfer took 10mins and then stopped at Lidl to do the food shopping! Managed to find a nice pub garden for lunch too. ☀️ Xx

MF1981 · 14/09/2020 16:31

Hey everyone!

Sending sticky vibes to you @UncleBrynsfishingtrip and @JandL2020 - was your partner allowed to be with you?

Fingers crossed for everyone else as well. We're getting sorted with Access this week to fund a 3 cycle package and start the prep with my next bleed which is in 3 weeks.

JandL2020 · 14/09/2020 16:50

@MF1981 yes he was which was nice and I found it calmed me down holding his hand. I don’t think this is the norm though especially in nhs clinics. There are women miscarrying not having their partners in for scans it’s heartbreaking and it’s not right. This government really need to get their priorities straight

monsterad · 14/09/2020 17:46

Snap! I spoke with access today, and chose the 2 year unlimited, can I ask how you chose the 3 cycle package? I found making the choice really hard. I'm still not sure we've chosen the right package!
MF1981 · 14/09/2020 18:29

Hey @monsterad. I’m 39 so was pretty limited in my options. I could have a 2 cycle package or the 3 cycle refund package. We wanted to give ourselves the best chance with a bit less pressure plus luckily my in laws are lending us the money so the refund option seems the best for us. We haven’t been accepted yet but fingers crossed.

MF1981 · 14/09/2020 18:31

@JandL2020 oh I’m so pleased. And yes you’re right that it must be so heartbreaking for women having to go through these things alone. Yet we can all go and sit in a pub together!

monsterad · 14/09/2020 18:51

@MF1981 I wonder what criteria we have to meet? I wondered credit checks but we have to pay the full amount upfront I believe?

What else would they be checking?
