Sept IVF/FET

I can’t see a Sept cycle up yet so thought I’d start one. Currently TTC #2. Our March FET was postponed due to Covid and we had a FET in July which sadly resulted in a BFN last week. Had our follow up last night and to our surprise we can try again straight away so signing consents next week and starting down reg in 2.5 weeks. Told the cycle went perfectly and must have been an embryo issue so we aren’t changing protocol but going for double embryo transfer this time. Anyone else looking to cycle/ transfer in Sept? Or am I a bit early/ keen 😂

Thank you so much for the information @HavingFaith and @Lemongrass1 Smile

Koalabear23 · 19/08/2020 08:44

Hi everyone, mind if I join. Reading these groups has been so helpful over the last few months so thought would try joining! had egg collection in July and PGS (history of recurring miscarriages) so it was a freeze all. Started Norethisterone last week for first FET. The wait to start is driving me crazy!! How do you keep your brains occupied with all the waiting?!

@Koalabear23 hiya and welcome Smile

Had endo scratch this morning. More painful than I expected. The pressure on my bladder was 😖

79andnotout · 19/08/2020 09:56

Hi @@Koalabear23 - welcome!

@JandL2020 - I'm dreading any of the full bladder procedures. I'm pretty sure I'm going to wet myself. My bladder is tiny. I don't think they do endo scratch at my clinic. It doesn't sound nice!

My meds were supposed to arrive yesterday but they didn't show up. I think I can also feel my lining start to twinge so my period is on it's way any day now. I phoned the clinic and they're going to call me back later. I hope I don't have to wait until the next cycle just because the drugs company have messed up!

poupou · 19/08/2020 10:01

Welcome @Koalabear23 ! Fingers crossed this will be your cycle! As you mentioned recurrent miscarriages have you been tested for antiphospholipid antibodies?

I was a little sceptical about it to be honest especially because recent research has shown it doesn’t make much difference but I got sucked in as an add on. I felt like I really wanted to wet myself it was horrible. I’m also light spotting now and told I can’t swim tomorrow 😔 gutted but was expecting the nurse to say that. Feel like I’ve earnt a McDonald’s today 😋 xx
HavingFaith · 19/08/2020 12:30

@Koalabear23 welcome! Hope all is going well on the norethisterone. I’m on this too, but will take my last tablet this evening.

@JandL2020 haha you’ve definitely earned a McDonald’s! Enjoy!xx

I can confirm the Maccy Ds was awesome and so cheap cos of the eat out scheme. May have to go back later for dinner 😂 xx

Koalabear23 · 19/08/2020 15:11

Thanks for the welcome everyone 😊!
@poupou thanks for asking. I have had lots of tests for RM after my third, they found a clotting issue and I took Heparin for next pregnancy and still miscarried again (12 weeks). So recommended I try IVF- PGS to know the embryo was ok. We only got 2 normal embryo’s but I figured that’s 2 more tries at it. Love to hear if anyone knows anyone it’s worked for? I literally trawl the internet for success stories.
@JandL2020 I had the scratch on Monday with a hysteroscopy. I think I’ve been sucked into every single add on!

Koalabear23 · 19/08/2020 15:12

Quick question- when people say they have given up caffeine, do you still drink decaf? I read it has some caffeine in it but don’t know if I should care that much or not?

poupou · 19/08/2020 16:26

@Koalabear23! Heparin should help alone with aspirin for any clotting issues. I am sorry for your previous losses. The chances for a successful implantation are way higher with chromosomal normal embryos! So fingers crossed this will be the lucky one! Wishing you every luck!

About the coffee i stopped drinking normal coffee i have 2 cups of decaf per day. It appears it has 1/20th of the norMal
Coffee and i calculated that this is approximately 25 g of caffeine per cup hence if you have 3 is below 100 g. I hope this helps.

79andnotout · 19/08/2020 16:26

Hi @Koalabear23 my sister had a successful ICSI after PGS. It was her third or fourth attempt, and her first try with PGS. I think 2/6 of her eggs collected came back as normal.

WRT caffeine, I am drinking decaf tea. I would drink decaf coffee too but we've run out. I am also having a weak latte every few days as I can never follow my own rules 100%!

Hmm I fancy a burger now @JandL2020. Although I'm more of a FiveGuys girl. We gave up meat over a year ago (although we didn't each much before then either) so I've not had one in ages, but I'm back eating meat for IVF as there's no way I could get enough protein in otherwise, especially trying to be low carb. My sweat now smells meaty. It's a bit grim!

79andnotout · 19/08/2020 16:29

And @Koalabear23 I am also on heparin for the duration as I'm high risk for clots. How bad are the injections? I picked up a massive sack of them today! I'm quite small so I'm hoping I don't run out of flesh to inject into!

Five guys is a bit ££. I was a vege too and gave up when lockdown started. I’m off the red meats and just having chicken and fish mostly, plus yogurts and Brazil nuts. I’ve nearly done 4 weeks of mostly healthy eating exercise and no alcohol so hopefully I’ll weight a little less tomorrow 🤞 xx
HavingFaith · 19/08/2020 16:33

@79andnotout the bruising is not pretty for sure.
I am currently making myself a decaf coffee and trying to persuade my husband we need a take away burger tonight.

ivfjourney5 · 19/08/2020 17:38

Thanks for everyone's thoughts, and I hope I didn't worry anyone, but I'm feeling SOO much better now! It's strange how the side effects have changed so much in just one day. The nausea has completely gone and I've had a lovely lunch out with my family today 🥰
AF is on her way so I should be able to start progynova tomorrow/Friday 🤞🏼

@Lemongrass1 I stay on 0.5 buserelin as well, no lowering the does. It's strange how different clinics use quite different approaches though. Don't worry about no side effects! My natural hormones are completely messed up (very irregular cycles, so my body just doesn't know how to cope with all these drugs 😂). I'm glad you've been feeling well throughout!

UnicornPuff · 20/08/2020 08:12

It seems lots of you are having long protocol if you are having buserelin? I had long last time but was moved to short this cycle because my clinic wants everyone on short due to Covid. They said there are less appointments so reduced footfall.

We have decided to go ahead this cycle. Cd1 today (2 days late of course 😂) called my clinic and booked for my scan tomorrow afternoon! In my head I thought it would be Monday so really excited to be moving forward again!

HavingFaith · 20/08/2020 08:53

@UnicornPuff that’s amazing!! So glad the wheels are in motion! What’s the process for short protocol?
I did short protocol IVF and when I asked if this FET protocol was long, and why, the nurse just answered that this is the protocol I need and moved the conversation on! So I’m just blindly hoping it works x

UnicornPuff · 20/08/2020 09:15

@HavingFaith my protocol this time is scan tomorrow. As long as all looks as it should start menopur 375 on sat and then i am not sure when but I am guessing a day or 2 later start fermodyl (same group of drugs as buserelin not sure why they changed me over but I am also blindly trusting 😂) and then in about 2 weeks I should be ready for collection!
My SIL had a FET and she did long protocol too (one beautiful 2yo and another due in 6 weeks!) I think it is more about lining prep and getting it perfect for your embryo but why you need to down reg i have no idea! Whats the next step for your FET?

HavingFaith · 20/08/2020 09:38

@UnicornPuff sorry it’s too early for my brain to work - I thought you were doing a FET.
I was on menopur when I did IVF - sounds like it was a very similar protocol to yours! I was put on cetrotide to stop me ovulating before they wanted me to - maybe that’s what the fermodyl is for? Massive guess though!! Hope your scan goes well tomorrow.

Wow, that’s amazing to hear your SILs success!!

I took my last norethisterone last night, so now I’m waiting for my bleed which I reckon will come in about 6days-ish, then will have a scan to see if I’m all good to start progynova. So at the mo, I’m just doing a buseralin injection each evening.

unknownscot · 20/08/2020 09:42

Finally got my CD1 yesterday (7 days late!) so phoned the clinic and just waiting on dates coming through.
This will be our first cycle of IVF, with a freeze all.

Anyone else in the same kind of situation?

UnicornPuff · 20/08/2020 10:18

@unknownscot I feel for you! Are you normally regular? I am like clockwork until I want it to start for ivf purposes and 2 days late was annoyed me!

We have MFI and none were good enough to freeze in our first cycle so expecting similar this time. My understanding is FET seem to be very successful. Your body is not recovering from all the stims then sedation or GA so you start physically quite well. Plus if they have are good enough to freeze and survive the thaw then they are pretty hardy! Exciting times even if your body made you wait!
