Sept IVF/FET

I can’t see a Sept cycle up yet so thought I’d start one. Currently TTC #2. Our March FET was postponed due to Covid and we had a FET in July which sadly resulted in a BFN last week. Had our follow up last night and to our surprise we can try again straight away so signing consents next week and starting down reg in 2.5 weeks. Told the cycle went perfectly and must have been an embryo issue so we aren’t changing protocol but going for double embryo transfer this time. Anyone else looking to cycle/ transfer in Sept? Or am I a bit early/ keen 😂

I’m just taking pregnacare - looks like it has everything in it. As far as I know I’m not deficient in anything xx

ivfjourney5 · 11/08/2020 16:58

@poupou I have pregnacare pre conception, tmi my wee turns bright yellow shortly after so I don't know how much of the nutrients I'm actually absorbing. @JandL2020 please tell me I'm not alone in bright yellow wee 😂😂

@HavingFaith im on the norethistertone for 10 days to induce a bleed, and I'm on buserelin for about a month.

@LJM83 I'm having my first FET, my schedule is norethistertone for 10 days to induce a bleed, and I started buserelin at the same time but I'm on that for about a month. I start oestrogen tablets on day 1, then stop buserelin and start Lubion about 5 days before transfer

HavingFaith · 11/08/2020 17:30

@poupou I’m just taking folic acid at the moment. I was taking inositol for almost a year but found it didn’t really make a difference (was hoping it would regulate my cycle). Funnily enough the month I stopped taking it I’ve been really regular for three months which is unheard of for me. Other people seems to work really well for most people so guess I’m the random outlier on that one!

@LJM83 I think each clinic will differ to some degree. But my protocol seems really similar to @ivfjourney5’s I started norethisterone on CD14 for 10days. On CD21 (this Sat) I’ll start buseralin. Then between CD1-4 of my next period I’ll have a scan and then if all is well start oestrogen tablets and reduce my dose of buseralin. then a few days before transfer I’ll stop the buseralin and start progesterone pessaries and injections (cyclogest and lubion).

Haha yes my wee has been that colour before come to think of it! Xx

poupou · 11/08/2020 17:51

@LJM83 i am also having my first FET. And my protocol is exactly the same as @HavingFaith and similar to @ivfjourney5. I am due to start my noretheristerone on the 22nd! My clinic asked whether i am taking vitamin d and folic acid @HavingFaith and @ivfjourney5 and hence i thought to check. According to general research folate is better than folic acid as the latter is a synthetic form and sometimes doesnt get absorbed. Vitamin d is very important for fertility and has been linked with higher rates of IVF success. I think i am Going slightly overboard with research at the moment! I just want to do the best i can i assume. Thanks!

Lemongrass1 · 11/08/2020 18:08

@HavingFaith let’s hope AF doesn’t hang around for us!

@LJM83 this is our third FET and have always been on same protocol. I think lots of people are on long protocol at the moment as it gives the clinics more control as to when they bring you in for scans/ transfer etc.
Am similar to everyone else but no norethisterone. Start buserelin CD21 and have a down reg scan after withdrawl bleed around 2- 2.5 weeks later. I’ve pushed our scan a bit later as AF is usually a bit late for me on buserelin and last time I had to go back for a second scan as still bleeding and lining wasn’t thin enough. At the first scan they check no cysts forming on the ovaries and that the lining is thin. If this is satisfactory then start oestrogen tabs or patches for around 10 days followed by a lining scan. Varies between clinics but our clinic looks for a lining of 8mm or over. Once lining scan is ok they stop buserelin and start progesterone about a week before transfer. I think short protocol has no down reg and start oestrogen around CD2, with lining scan and progesterone started at similar intervals to long protocol. Natural cycle you monitor for natural ovulation with LH sticks and serial scans and they time transfer according to ovulation date. I haven’t done a natural or short cycle before but this is based on what I’ve heard other ladies saying. Hope that helps 😁

Have switched from pregnacare to procieve for this cycle. It’s expensive but I’m hoping it does the trick (I’ve no evidence to say it’s better and I haven’t compared the dosages like for like, though I could do I suppose). Also got a ‘his and hers’ set as DH not good at taking his supplements historically. Now we are both working at home I can police it 😹

Also taking ubiquinol which I heard helps with cell division. Again, who knows if it’s proven but it can’t hurt.

Trying to eat plenty of protein too.

Ps - I also had the bright yellow wee after taking pregnacare!

LJM83 · 12/08/2020 07:47

Thank you all so much for your comments - I really appreciate it. These groups are bloody excellent! 😘

Minster2012 · 12/08/2020 08:11

Hi ladies,
CD21 here so states northisterone today before our FET cycle in September as that was all we knew so I've not been on in a while but I spoke to my clinic the other day to try & work out dates as we wanted to get a sly trip away sorted...& we were told our FET transfer is in for w/c 21st sep with a scan roughly the week or so before for the lining so we have a date!!

We also managed to then find a lodge with a hot tub for the weekend before scans (as I Won't be able to use a hot tub after) yaaayyyy!!!
Things are moving!
So I'm only on northisterone then progesterone & I'm currently drinking pomegranate juice to try help my lining & taking a boots mixed pregnancy tablet & cod liver oil & eating lots of veg & still drinking alcohol 😂

JandL2020 · 12/08/2020 08:18

Hot tub sounds bloody lovely! Very jealous! Only 8 more days left of the pill 🤣 come on! Xx

J1984 · 12/08/2020 08:32

Just thought I'd put down whar we've been doing. We've both cut out all alcohol completely so by the time we go in for treatment I will have been without for 51 days and the wife a bit longer.

Daily we are both taking Pregnacare his and hers Vitamin's along with COq10 and Omega 3 fish oil for me. We are both having 2 Brazil nuts a day apparently they are good for both male/female especially for males as it contains Selenium in the natural form which is good for Sperm

Fingers crossed all this works

Minster2012 · 12/08/2020 08:51

@Ails826 I've had a similar situation to you I'm not sure if anyone got back to you. We had IVF FET in feb, got BFP which sadly had to have medicated miscarriage in March after missed miscarriage and it proper messed up my cycles so we had to wait 3 cycles to go again. That would have been July period but after 40 days it was missing with a week of negative tests. I had a blood test & my clinic gave me northisterone to bring on a bleed & we are now going on the next cycle from that, well, they have been managing it from that, so it's now day 21 after that bleed & im now starting northisterone again for an FET in sep as that's when they can fit us in.

So all is not lost don't worry. It's a horrible feeling AF is messing you around when you want it most I know. But they can sort it and still use it, it will just take a bit longer. Sending hugs xxx

79andnotout · 12/08/2020 11:45

I'm taking folic acid (400 micrograms), 25 micrograms vitd, 1mg vit b12, and 600 mg ubiquinol. I only started these two weeks ago though, as that's when I got the call from the clinic (I thought my cycle had been cancelled permanently). I've just ordered some Omega-3 due to arrive today too. I've not had anything to drink for three months and follow a Mediterranean diet and do lots of exercise anyway, so hoping my health is at a good base level without the supplements.

Hot tub sounds good. Does anyone know if we're supposed to avoid baths throughout the ivf process? I have loads of baths, although not in this weather. So maybe I wont even miss them.

I was also dreading the covid test as a friend of mine had it and said it was really awful, but that was quite early on in the pandemic so maybe they were too harsh then. Glad to hear it's not that bad! I'm having mine on Monday.

HavingFaith · 12/08/2020 12:58

How are you all getting the Covid test done? My clinic have said they’ll give us swabs to do ourselves, then we have to bring them in for testing. They haven’t given us any further information yet about where needs to be swabbed but guess mouth/nose??

We will be tested around a week before the transfer I think

HavingFaith · 12/08/2020 12:58

*sorry, hit send too soon!
They also said we’ll get the results 2days after we drop off the swabs

Minster2012 · 12/08/2020 13:31

@79andnotout & @HavingFaith I don't know about the COVID test yet I guess we'll get told in our consenting call next week

@79andnotout on the baths thing (& hot tubs hence why I'm getting it in before) I've have IVF before & was told def no hot tubs or saunas after transfer and for the first trimester really as it's an infection risk, saunas are out as a pregnant lady anyway usually. Hot Baths I was advised against but they aren't a risk unless you have it ridiculous hot & raise your basal temperature so I avoided anyway after transfer but in the lead up I had them (it was feb) & the night before I had a hot bath & my last weak g&t, some clinics tell ppl to just not have baths.

79andnotout · 12/08/2020 14:15

Great, thanks @Minster2012, think I'll just avoid baths. I can live without them for a while!

@HavingFaith - my covid test will be carried out at the clinic by the nurses. They said throat (tonsils) and nose. They will be sent off, and they said they'd only get in touch if it came back positive. If I don't hear anything, then assume all systems go.

Lemongrass1 · 12/08/2020 17:40

@HavingFaith the nurses at the clinic do our Covid test. Here’s the guidance on how to do it yourself from the .gov site

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-for-taking-swab-samples

Unfortunately it can be pretty uncomfortable when it’s done properly. But what you don’t want to do is not do a proper sample and end up with an ‘inadequate’ result as they will have to repeat the test and it could delay things 😬

HavingFaith · 12/08/2020 18:35

@Minster2012 your weekend away sounds so ideal!

Thanks @79andnotout and @Lemongrass1 it’s interesting to see show each clinic are doing the Covid tests. Thank you so much for that link @Lemongrass1 because I get the impression that our clinic will literally just give us the swabs and send us on our way to figure it out ourselves! I don’t think I’d cope if there’s a delay because I didn’t scrape my nose properly! Ha!

ivfjourney5 · 12/08/2020 19:25

I'm surprised you're all being made to do covid tests, I don't have one with my clinic! I am quite glad about it, I had one a couple of months ago when I came down with a persistent cough and i found it quite uncomfortable but i do have a really bad gag reflex.

79andnotout · 12/08/2020 20:11

My clinic are quite paranoid (st Mary's in Manchester), probably as the infection rate is pretty high around here. They even said some anaesthetists are doing spinal taps instead of sedation for the egg collection to minimise covid risk, which I don't fancy!

Lemongrass1 · 13/08/2020 21:04

How’s everyone doing today?

@ivfjourney5 you are so lucky!
@HavingFaith how are you feeling, just 2 days to go to start buserelin!

OP posts:
Youngatheart00 · 13/08/2020 21:07

@79andnotout oh god that sounds awful! Sedation is a must!

JandL2020 · 13/08/2020 21:20

When did everyone get their meds before starting? I am due off the pill next Thursday and have my endo scratch next Wednesday.
I’m on a short protocol x

Lemongrass1 · 13/08/2020 21:24

@JandL2020 we had our prescription done at our consent appointment. It was ready to pick up from pharmacy the next day. So 1 week before starting meds x
