TTC WITH PCOS

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd make a thread for anyone TTC with pcos. I have not formally been diagnosed with the condition but pretty sure I am due to my irregular periods and the way my ovaries look on a scan.
I came off the pill August last year and had regular periods and then they just completely stopped in January. I had to have a tablet to induce a period in the end.
Anyway it's been a while now and hard to try and conceive when you know you probably aren't even ovulating.
Any body in a similar position?
Also anyone has any tips/ supplements that might help?

Thanks 😁

Gosh I hope so !!!!!! Everything crossed. I can't believe it

@ChicaXS ohhh that's a relief then! Maybe it's just my body trying to finally regulate. It's funny you should say you ovulated on day 8 cus last month it was only like dat 7/8 and I had ewcm which I've never had before but then I thought would be too early to ovulate!
I will try opk ive got some but every time they are negative and just disheartens me. I'm on annual leave for 2 weeks now and we are going away next week so hopefully I'll be ovulating then! Xxxx

@swirls3468 I’m opposite with opk I’m always positive but haven’t done in a while. Enjoy your annual leave.

@ElsiesJourney nice I feel your excitement, wish you all the best :)

For anyone needing a bit of motivation for the low carb and sugar diet, I’ve found reading books really helpful and I’ve learned loads, especially about what I was doing wrong.

Might be old news for most but for me it has been a big realisation and gain more understanding and I felt worth sharing.

I hate wasting time and feel I’ve wasted loads not eating right. I’ve just finished ‘Natural solutions to pcos’ and just starting ‘8 steps to reverse pcos’

Newbie0818 · 20/07/2020 08:07

Thanks for the info @Ronnii I've just read a short ebook about it all and really am going to try to make good choices. I'm quite a fussy eater though so I'm a bit anxious about it 😫

Ronnii · 20/07/2020 10:36

@Newbie0818 don’t worry too much. Thoughts of changing diets can be tough, especially when hubby is happy to sit next to me eating chocolate! He cheats the diet and he’s loosing more weight than me!

Newbie0818 · 20/07/2020 10:57

@Ronnii yes same! This will make you laugh, me and hubby just went to his mums bakery as he wanted a cream cake, so in an effort to be healthier I asked him to get me a fruit pot. What did he come out with? A fruity ice lolly, he thought I'd said "ice pop" 🤨

Newbie0818 · 20/07/2020 11:52

Question- are you supposed to stop taking inositol after ov? I know it's not good to take whilst pregnant, so wondering if there's a risk to keep taking it in the tww?

Ronnii · 20/07/2020 16:01

@Newbie0818 hot day today so ice lolly would be hard to resist right now. I’m just baking cookies from banana, peanut butter and oats, smells good haven’t tasted yet and my next try will be sweet potato brownies, weird but I don’t want to be treatless 😋

Newbie0818 · 20/07/2020 16:48

@Ronnii totally get that, those sound lovely!

Tillyisabelle2018 · 21/07/2020 09:29

Hello!

I've just found this thread 😊

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago and have a 2 year old after falling pregnant completely by chance. We've now been TTC for almost a year. I've had a consultation with a private doctor as I can't get anything on the NHS where we live and due to have more tests this week before starting metformin/clomid. I've also ordered some inofolic which is arriving today!

I'm interesting in learning more about the keto diet. Is it easy to follow? What can/can't be eaten? I hate any kind of fish/seafood so I don't know how well I'll do 😂

AttilaTheMeerkat · 21/07/2020 13:10

Avoid keto altogether.

What does work for PCOS patients is to follow a low GI/GL (glycaemic index/glycaemic load) eating plan; this is also sustainable unlike many low carb eating plans.

Collette Harris has written some low GI/GL cookbooks with PCOS in mind; you may want to give this a go instead.

Tillyisabelle2018 · 21/07/2020 13:38

@AttilaTheMeerkat thank you so much for your reply! I'll take a look 😊 Sometimes I feel like it's an absolute minefield trying to work out what's best!

Ronnii · 21/07/2020 17:23

Hi Tilly, welcome. Yeah it’s more the pcos diet than Keto diet. I thought I was going to have to Keto at first but you can have carbs they just have to be ‘good’ carbs.

Defo look at pcos recipe books or reading to make sure you still eat what the body needs

Ronnii · 21/07/2020 17:36

Quinoa, avocado and egg is my new breakfast. No more bread, pasta, potatoes or processed food. And no sugar.

Had my blood taken today to see where my hormones are at, and eagerly awaiting the start of my next cycle to see if it gets any shorter.

Tillyisabelle2018 · 22/07/2020 09:55

Thanks @Ronnii - it's so hard as there's so much stuff online 🤯

How are you getting on with it? I'm actually excited and feel really positive for the first time in a long time!

Ronnii · 22/07/2020 11:29

I’m getting on alright with it, I was never a big cook or dieter so it’s been very different.

I’ve been losing weight which I needed to which feels great, got about a stone to go still.

Makes me laugh, I’m heading towards the best body I’ve ever had and hoping to then stretch it out getting pregnant

Newbie0818 · 23/07/2020 15:43

Ok ladies, I need advice. So I assumed I'd ovulated on Monday as I had ewcm for a couple days before and a big temp dip that day, and since my temps have risen. My cervix is still really high and when I checked just now I had a massive jelly like glob of clear cm (tmi sorry!). I thought I'd do an opk just to check and it's very dark?! What do you think, have I ovulated yet or will I ovulate soon? I've attached my chart so far and the opk. Thanks!

Tink2019 · 23/07/2020 16:08

Hey @Newbie0818, I think you've probably already O'd from your BBT. The OPK to me looks dark but not quite peak as the line is very very slightly lighter than the control - how does it compare to OPKs from last few days? Last month I had a peak OPK, a high OPK then a peak OPK again, but judging by when AF came the first was the 'proper' surge. Maybe DTD tonight just incase though x

Newbie0818 · 23/07/2020 16:11

@Tink2019 oh definitely not peak, but I never get them higher than control. I didn't do any over the last few days as I assumed I'd ov'd, but it looks like opk's I've had before ovulation before? Very confusing our bodies are.

swirls3468 · 23/07/2020 16:25

I'm going to start temping this month I am on about cycle day 7 and started this morning. Not really sure what I need to look out for though? Is it a rise in temperature then you know you're ovulating? Xxx

OP posts:
Tink2019 · 23/07/2020 17:10

@Newbie0818 they certainly are. I keep doing OPKs for a few days after a temp rise and mine always seem to stay fairly high 🤷🏼‍♀️ Have you tried a different brand? I used the ones you're using when I first started TTC and never got a peak, switched to Wondfo and have found them much better - have had peaks every cycle.

@swirls3468 yup, a temp rise but think it needs to be 3 temps consistently higher than the previous temps (or something like that!). I'd use an app if I were you - it updates once it thinks you've O'd and put the cover line in. I've found it's the only way I can confirm I've definitely ovulated as OPKs don't seem to be reliable and as soon as I see my temps dropping during TWW I know I'm out so kinda manages expectations too...sort of, still had a meltdown last cycle when AF arrived! I've attached my chart from last cycle (it's too long to fit on screen so AF is missing from the start but gives you an idea) - I use Femometer app x

Newbie0818 · 23/07/2020 17:40

@Tink2019 I haven't no, I have about 20 of these left so may try the brand you suggested if unsuccessful this cycle. Do you get them on amazon?

Tink2019 · 23/07/2020 18:12

I do indeed @Newbie0818 - they come in a pack with HCG tests which I guess would be useful if you're a tester before AF 😊
