TTC WITH PCOS

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd make a thread for anyone TTC with pcos. I have not formally been diagnosed with the condition but pretty sure I am due to my irregular periods and the way my ovaries look on a scan.
I came off the pill August last year and had regular periods and then they just completely stopped in January. I had to have a tablet to induce a period in the end.
Anyway it's been a while now and hard to try and conceive when you know you probably aren't even ovulating.
Any body in a similar position?
Also anyone has any tips/ supplements that might help?

Thanks 😁

@ChicaXS Thank you!! Can't say if it's helped me ovulate as haven't got a clue if I have or not. I have had some EWCM which I've never had before this month which could be a coincidence. It's so hard to track ovulation with this condition. Any tips ? Xxxx

Thanks for advice, it does help :)

@ChicaXS this sounds good, ovulation. Thanks for sharing how the diet is going for you

Ronnii · 12/07/2020 22:23

@swirls3468 EWCM is a good sign, if you ovulated it could have been around then :)

Tink2019 · 12/07/2020 23:07

@swirls3468 do you track your bbt? It's a bit of a pain doing it ever morning as soon as you wake up, but it's really helped me understand if I've O'd or had an anovulatory cycle as the ones when I do O there is a shift in temps even if it's not immediate or as high as they probably should be. I'll attach two of mine to show the difference in case that's helpful x

@swirls3468 forgot to say that you start to notice patterns too - I now know I'll get a few dips and spikes where I guess my body is trying to ovulate but when I actually do ovulate a couple of days before my temp normally dips lower than most previous temps which is helpful as find OPKs quite unreliable x

FatThighsBlueEyes · 12/07/2020 23:37

@Tink2019 I want to start tracking my temperature. What app do you use?

Tink2019 · 13/07/2020 07:41

@FatThighsBlueEyes I use Femometer - that's also the brand of the thermometer I use. I put everything in the one app (temps, OPKs, symptoms, period etc) x

@swirls3468 @Ronnii your welcome lovelies. Honestly the best advice I can give is lots of sex and diet. You do need insulin aid (where inofolic, metformin or myo inositol comes in) and Exercise. Set yourself a goal to lose weight too. When I was first diagnosed, it was the first thing my GP told me but honestly I was so careless I didn’t practise what was preached. Now I regret it as I think I wasted valuable months.

Depending on your age I would also try ovulation induction. It’s costly outside the NHS (around 400) but it’s valuable to understand your cycles. Medicines such as clomid will help ovulation and decrease your cycles but this should be the next step after 6 months of trying.

Does anyone know what the guidelines for intervention through the nhs are for pcos? I was told I'd have to wait 2 years and if I still haven't conceived naturally then they would help... I thought it was 12 months?

ChicaXS · 13/07/2020 11:00

@Newbie0818 depends on your age. Under 35 it’s 12 months, over 35 it’s 6 months.

Newbie0818 · 13/07/2020 13:43

I'm 27 so surely they would help. Didn't help that the gp said she doesn't know what the guidelines are!

Woah sorry it said "unable to post" so that's why it's there so many times!

swirls3468 · 13/07/2020 16:07

@Newbie0818 Pretty sure it's 12 months TTC for couples with no known fertility issues and 6 months for pcos. I'm 24 and asked my gp to refer me in January which had been only 6 months TTC but I knew something was off. Anyway I got referred and they discharged me before my first appointment because of covid!! So I rang and asked for a referral to another hospital (the one I work at which is much better). And I've had my initial consultation over the phone and then my follow up is in October which I presume which is when I'd start treatment and stuff if needed. But that's 4 months away.
Basically I'm saying referrals and appointments take time in the nhs so definitely get referred as soon as possible. Because of covid as well every appointment has even longer waiting times.
Speak to a different gp and they should refer you,
If you go onto NICE clinical guidelines there should be some info there .
Sorry for the rambling lol xxxx

Thank you @swirls3468 that's really helpful! I think I'm going to try a couple of cycles with the inositol and then I'll pester my husbands gp as he is a lot more proactive.

Hi , how is everyone doing?
I just feel like I need a little vent as not getting anywhere !
I didn't have a period for sixth months and started taking infolic and had a 25 day cycle, then 21 and now I've come on period again and it's only cycle day 19. Can anyone shed some light on this? Or had a similar experience?
Do you think infolic is just making my hormones more imbalanced or is it a good sign??
I also have terrible head ache and brain fog. F YOU PCOS. Xx

@swirls3468 is infolic the same as inositol? Sorry I'm not sure. Perhaps it's trying to adjust the hormones?

ChicaXS · 19/07/2020 08:21

@swirls3468 this happened to me so don’t feel disheartened. Mine was a 16 day cycle followed by 21 days. It then regulated to 33 day’s. Two subsequent cycles after I got a BFP so don’t be disheartened but note I ovulated very early (day 8).

Keep testing with opk cheapies and make sure you have sex every other day. It should even out - if it doesn’t reach out to fertility family.

Newbie0818 · 19/07/2020 09:53

Omg ladies... I think I'm ovulating at cd 15!!! LOADS of ewcm this morning and my cervix is high soft and open! Minor cramps too 🤞🏼This never happens this early, am I stupid for thinking the inositol is working so early.

Ronnii · 19/07/2020 11:04

@Newbie0818 sounds good! Not stupid to be hopeful. Being down can affect your body so if your feeling good, embrace it :) and DTD

ElsiesJourney · 19/07/2020 12:04

Holy f@&£ I got a BFP this morning. Having been told I needed surgery and I had lots against me after been trying for over two years.

Still very early days as I've had two early losses and many bridges to cross. But keep the faith everybody xxxx

Newbie0818 · 19/07/2020 12:24

Thank you @Ronnii yes I agree, trying to keep positive :)

Amazing news @ElsiesJourney !!! You must be so over the moon xx
