TTC WITH PCOS

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd make a thread for anyone TTC with pcos. I have not formally been diagnosed with the condition but pretty sure I am due to my irregular periods and the way my ovaries look on a scan.
I came off the pill August last year and had regular periods and then they just completely stopped in January. I had to have a tablet to induce a period in the end.
Anyway it's been a while now and hard to try and conceive when you know you probably aren't even ovulating.
Any body in a similar position?
Also anyone has any tips/ supplements that might help?

Thanks 😁

For those using femometer app. It comes up as £9.99 per month but if you change the subscription to 3 month or year it works out cheaper.

Tillyisabelle2018 · 24/07/2020 13:58

I've just bought some of the Wondfo ovulation/pregnancy tests but I'm a bit worried about the false positive pregnancy test reviews. Has anyone had problems with them?

Kiwi93 · 28/07/2020 14:51

Hi All,
I am hoping you can help. I suspect I have PCOS I have a lot of the symptoms, I was on pills/depop for over 10 years to regulate my periods as I had long cycles. I stopped taking contraception in November 2018 and I have only had two periods since March & April 2019. Me and my partner have been trying ttc since the start of the year but no joy, I tried the ovulation sticks but didn’t seem to be getting anywhere and with not having any periods. How long did people leave it until they spoke to there doctors about it? Thank you

Tillyisabelle2018 · 28/07/2020 15:10

Hi @Kiwi93 😊

We waited almost a year but my main reason for speaking to my GP was pain on one side. She referred me for a scan and then wanted to send me to a fertility clinic but I spoke to the fertility clinic and they said just to go straight there as they'd have to repeat it all anyway 😊

I recently started taking inofolic - I'd never heard of it until the consultant told me about it but 4 days after starting it my period arrived. I haven't had one for months so I'm convinced it was the inofolic!

Where abouts are you based? If you can, I'd definitely recommend going privately rather than the nhs as it's much quicker. Less than 2 weeks after my initial consultation I've had all the tests and have a prescription for clomid and metformin!

Rg1987 · 28/07/2020 15:13

hey @kiwi93 the general rule in the UK is if you are under 35 they ask you to try for a year and if no luck, to go and get fertility help. If you are over 35 it is 6 months.
If you haven't got a diagnosis yet though I would go and see a GP now and ask for the tests that would confirm it. You will need to have blood tests and a scan of the ovaries too.
Once it's confirmed, most doctors will refer you to fertility specialists straight away, no matter how long you've been trying.
Some doctors will tell you not to use ovulation sticks as PCOS can give false readings - and you can get double surges of LH.
(In my case I got pregnant v unexpectedly with my first child in 2018. I'm now struggling to get pregnant again with my second and I went to the doctors after 6 months. I have v irregular periods like you and I have just started ovulation treatment)
Best of luck

Does anyone have experience with partner smoking?
I'm only at start of investigations but GP said I won't be accepted by fertility clinic because of smoking.
He is booked for his SA and if it's fine he doesn't see a need to quit.
I am trying with the diet and exercise but would they really reject helping me cos my partner smokes but his SA is fine?

My cycles are so abnormal and I've had a real bad low point recently.

He will quit at some point but I will need to support him and I dnt have the mental strength right now

Newbie0818 · 31/07/2020 15:29

@Ronnii neither of us smoke here but I can't see that you'd be rejected. I'm not quite sure tbh sorry x

Newbie0818 · 01/08/2020 07:25

How's everyone doing on here? Anyone in the tww?

swirls3468 · 01/08/2020 12:24

@Ronnii Not sure about the smoking thing to be honest. They might see it as not trying to optimise your health though and I know smoking does affect fertility. Best thing would to quit to be on the safe side . Xx

@Newbie0818 Not bad! Been on holiday so taken my mind off TTC. I started doing the temp thing but made me too obsessive so decided we are just going to bd every other day at least and see what happens. I'm not sure at all if I've ovulated this month ! That's what gets me so frustrated I think. How's it going with you? Xx

OP posts:
Rg1987 · 01/08/2020 12:58

@Newbie0818 I'm 3DPO and it's already dragging lol. Just want to fast forward the next 10 days. Lockdown or whatever we are in now (!) has made the 2ww seem even longer I think.

Ronnii · 01/08/2020 20:10

Thanks anyway, I know it seems obvious lol. We both want kids I just think I'm more desperate and aware of what's against us and he still thinks it will just 'happen'.

Just like dinner always 'happens' eh. I gotta do it all it feels sometimes.

I'm better than I was when I last posted though. Started temping, decided not to pay for an app but plot a graph myself, stats are something I enjoy 😂

Newbie0818 · 01/08/2020 20:31

@swirls3468 that's the best way tbh, less stress and more chance of catching it either way.
I'm ok, 7dpo and feeling nothing now so I'm feeling a bit hopeless again.

@Rg1987 it's horrible isn't it! Are you up north?

@Ronnii it's so frustrating though, I feel for you! I think because it's not their bodies men just can't mentally connect with it like we do.
Oh use fertility friend! I downloaded it for free just to plot the graph, and Flo has a free function too.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 01/08/2020 20:35

They may well encourage him to stop smoking but you as a couple should not be barred from treatment, the GP is wrong in that respect.

As your cycles are so abnormal I would refrain from temp charting altogether. Its really not worth plotting a chart here as you could end up with one akin to the Rocky Mountains so nigh on impossible to interpret with any degree of accuracy. Apart from anything else the clinic will not take any notice of it either using blood tests and ultrasound scans instead.

swirls3468 · 02/08/2020 09:58

@Ronnii I think that's men for you! My partner is the same "it'll happen just relax "... 1 year later (in August ) and it still hasn't! So always go with your gut feeling!
This is a weird question but do you guys get EWCM? I've not really noticed it before much which means I don't think I ovulate but this month (it's cycle day 16) I woke up and there was some (I think ). But actually sure if it was the ewcm or normal discharge ? Xx

OP posts:
Tink2019 · 02/08/2020 10:33

@swirls3468 It's quite different to normal CM. It's clear and very stretchy, almost like jelly consistency. Probs tmi, but it'll sit on top of your underwear and leave no mark. I think Evening Primrose is meant to help increase it, I tried grapefruit juice this cycle - I love the stuff but it's an acquired taste!

swirls3468 · 02/08/2020 11:36

@Tink2019 Thanks for the explanation. I think I've defffo had it then!! So when do you ovulate after this? X

OP posts:
Tink2019 · 02/08/2020 12:01

@swirls3468 I think everyone's different, I normally have it a few days leading up to O then the day I O it turns sticky, but I have had cycles where I have patches of O pretty much the whole cycle 🤷🏼‍♀️

Tink2019 · 02/08/2020 12:01

@swirls3468 patches of ewcm not O 🤦🏼‍♀️

swirls3468 · 02/08/2020 12:10

I will attach an LH test . Is this negative ? I've never had a positive one ever but don't test with them a lot.

@swirls3468 that one looks a negative to me. Your line should be as dark or darker than the control line to be considered a positive.

Rg1987 · 02/08/2020 13:59

@newbie0818 tell me about it. No, we're down south. There's been a spike in a town near us so we're thinking we'll be in lock down again soon 🙄

Newbie0818 · 02/08/2020 14:24

@swirls3468 I do get quite a lot of the ewcm luckily, and even more so since starting the inositol so that's quite nice. I tend to have it in the lead up to a pos opk, and this cycle I had a secondary patch at 5dpo which means I had a secondary oestrogen surge apparently. I don't think everyone gets it even if they do ovulate. Negative opk, I've attached a pic of one of mine that's just after peak (negative, but still dark, peak is as dark as or darker than control) x

@Rg1987 ah we're in Bournemouth x
