TTC WITH PCOS

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd make a thread for anyone TTC with pcos. I have not formally been diagnosed with the condition but pretty sure I am due to my irregular periods and the way my ovaries look on a scan.
I came off the pill August last year and had regular periods and then they just completely stopped in January. I had to have a tablet to induce a period in the end.
Anyway it's been a while now and hard to try and conceive when you know you probably aren't even ovulating.
Any body in a similar position?
Also anyone has any tips/ supplements that might help?

Thanks 😁

Thanks @Croselle :)
I just had yet another BFN, so god knows what my body is doing.
How are you today?

Croselle · 04/07/2020 09:31

@Newbie0818 😔 sorry to hear that! Definitely give those GPs what for. New cycle, new chance. Keep going.

I'm okay, I'm confused if my period is coming early. I'm CD25, the earliest I usually have a period is at CD35 or later but for few days now my boobs have been getting real tender and I'm getting some cramps and pains and bloating. Maybe I'm ovulating but OPKs I do always say no haha and my CM isn't egg white so who knows!!

Newbie0818 · 04/07/2020 10:16

@Croselle thanks, I'm confused as I'm now 18dpo, had some minor brown spotting on Tuesday, weds and thrs and now completely nothing!
Hmm that's confusing! I just use the cheapie opk's from amazon which seem to work well. I can't remember if you said you temped? That's the only reason I think I've ovulated this cycle. I suppose it's a guessing game for both of us!

Croselle · 04/07/2020 12:14

@Newbie0818 I started to but found it dipped and rose so much from day to day it confused me so much. But I'll try again next cycle.

Perhaps take a test in a few days again? Sometimes they suggest trying every few days for a while. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Newbie0818 · 04/07/2020 12:36

@Croselle totally get that. I may test again if the witch doesn't show

Croselle · 04/07/2020 12:53

@Newbie0818 haha the witch! Love that!

Newbie0818 · 05/07/2020 09:00

Well the witch finally arrived!

Can anyone recommend a particular brand of Myoinostol? And can you take it with Pregnacare? Any experiences would be greatly appreciated ☺️

Croselle · 05/07/2020 14:13

@Newbie0818 ah I'm sorry, but new month to try so new chances.

I bought the Solgar inositol on amazon. Solgar are a good brand 😁

FatThighsBlueEyes · 06/07/2020 14:57

I think my inosotil brand are called Myo Inosotil and I ordered them off Amazon. I paid around £30.

Completely blank OPK this afternoon, it's never been that blank before... maybe I've ovulated now. Didn't DTD last night so I guess I've missed it Sad

Does anyone know how long Metformin takes to see the effects? I started today and will take the Provera on Wednesday when I'll get a negative pregnancy test Smile

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/07/2020 15:31

I would ditch the OPKs altogether; they are next to useless when it comes to PCOS and their use is not recommended if the patient has PCOS. These kits work on two misleading principles; namely that there is one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is followed by ovulation; both are simply not true.

Good luck with the metformin and provera. Metformin effects can kick in very quickly after taking the initial tablet. Use only as prescribed.

FatThighsBlueEyes · 06/07/2020 15:35

I thought that would be the case but for some reason I'm clinging on to a slight bit of hope that it'll show me something Sad

Sorry if TMI but I've taken my first two and cannot stop burping. Is that normal? Blush

Croselle · 06/07/2020 17:45

@AttilaTheMeerkat I think I followed your advice before on OPKs and ditched them. Found it disheartening to see negatives all the time yet see the EWCM and feel my cervix high and soft, only trouble is I have had those things a couple of times through cycle.

I hope that with my appointments being rescheduled I will start getting some clearer steer or when I may ovulate to help me know when to try and DTD and a good time.

I am still way early for my 'expected' period due to my FLO app but my breasts are still very very sore, bloating and hungry a lot more and all the PMS symptoms usually get a week before period, been about 4/5 days of this now. I got a bit nauseous this morning but not sick, I don't think it's pregnancy though.

I don't know about any of you ladies but I just have it in my head I won't conceive for ages or that nothing will happen until I. have all my appointments etc.. like I won't get lucky.

FatThighsBlueEyes · 06/07/2020 21:26

@Croselle you're not alone in thinking things like that, I have it in my head that it's never going to happen. I think it's a subconscious defence mechanism...

Croselle · 06/07/2020 21:30

@FatThighsBlueEyes I think you're right, adds more stress which we don't need!

swirls3468 · 07/07/2020 19:56

@Newbie0818 Hello, I recommend infolic it's off the fertility family website. I've tried another basic brand on amazon but didn't really do anything. The infolic comes in sachets so take one in the morning and one at night and don't have to worry about measuring it out. I've been taking it a month and it made me come on period early so like my cycle was only 21 days. But this is good for me as I didn't have one for nearly 6 months and had to take a progesterone pill to induce one. And since then I've had two natural ones!!!
It's made my skin really clear as well! Could just be a coincidence.
Tbh though it's very expensive. £90 for just 3 months. But I work full time and work hard so I just thought f*ck it I'll buy it lol.
Xx

Thanks for advice ladies. I got this through and will start taking from tomorrow. The dose is lower than usually recommended for pcos, but all of the reviews for pcos were really good so I'll see how it goes I guess. I can always get a stronger one later if needed. Willing to try anything right now!

Hello I thought I would post as I’ve been helped by reading some things said here.

I’m 29, off the pill 2 1/2 yrs now (on it 10+yrs). At first i thought it was the pill causing me problems, I had two irregular periods then nothing for 14 months. My GP was not concerned but at 7 months of nothing I pushed for something and got a scan where they saw cysts, they checked blood and told me ‘good news everything is fine’ and nothing from GP since.

My periods are irregular, 7-9 weeks. My constant symptom is bloating, I’d opt for a tummy massage over a back one everytime! I will definitely be cutting the carbs and sugar now, ordered some books to try and help. I weirdly never connected my digestion to my pcos, I had a minor op around the time I came off the pill and thought that was the cause and there was no solution!

I recently moved and now things are opening back up I have now finally registered with new GP, I’d given up on them as they weren’t helpful and I wasn’t insistent.

I have ups and down but I feel almost used to it now. But I’m re motivated again :)

I’m day 37 now so probs have a couple weeks until I expect a new cycle, any experience how quickly the diet works? I’d be so happy with a regular cycle!

swirls3468 · 09/07/2020 22:53

@Newbie0818 oooo I saw that one online, looks good. Just take two in morning and two at night which is the right dose for pcos. You might go through the tub quickly though. Since taking this infolic in the first time ever I think something may be going on- as in ovulation. I had cramping down there and also some creamy but stringy cm. sorry too much detail. But I've never ever had cm like that . But who knows! I don't do the temp thing or opk at the minute as don't want to waste my time or just get too obsessed with it. How's things your end? X

Thanks @swirls3468 see I've only been taking the two in the morning as the packet says don't exceed it. Do you think it's safe to take the two at night as well? It really annoys me because the reviews are great but not one of them say whether that's on just the two tablets or four a day. It's the folate and chromium I'm worried about overdoing, I don't know if those doses can be safely doubled?

Hi @Ronnii :) I'm no help with dieting but just wanted to say welcome and I hope it works for you! I totally get how you feel, it would be so nice to have a "normal" cycle!

swirls3468 · 11/07/2020 10:08

@Newbie0818 hello! Well it's up to you but I'd take two in morning and two at night. I have looked at the dosage on amazon and they said they contain 200mcg each two tablets (each serving) and the recommended folate for TTC is 400-800mcg daily anyway so you probably wouldn't do yourself any harm. But maybe just see how you go.
I got my result from my AMH test and it was really high! Which suggests I do have pcos but at least I've got a really good ovarian reserve which I'm pleased about. I was scared in the back of my mind my ovaries were failing or something because of the erratic periods.
Since starting this though I've been more regular.
I'm gonna add in a few more supplements as well this month. Hope you are well. How many months have you TTC now? Xxxx

@Ronnii Hello welcome to the group! It's horrible having long cycles and don't ever let a gp tell you it's normal because it's not. The big problem with pcos is the lack of ovulation or being able to pinpoint when it actually is.
In terms of diet I have started to cut more sugar and refined carbs. Eat more whole grain foods. Eg swap from white to brown rice.
Have you had a referral to gynae ? I personally wouldn't push for that as gps probably won't offer you much in terms of fertility treatment xxxx

@Newbie0818 @swirls3468
Thanks for welcoming, I’d been encouraged to try a forum but I can be quite avoidant, which hasn’t helped me get help! but I am determined, I’ve been mulling over life without kids, my partner wouldn’t mind, but I want to try and push things forward.

I did have a referral that sort of fizzled out. They asked for partner SA but the problem was me so he didn’t see it as relevant. He has changed and is up for testing now. Next week we will try start at the GP again. Team effort this time so I’m hopeful.

I tried and failed to track ovulation so get what you mean there, get multiple positives through cycle, very exciting the first time but now realise I may not be ovulating at all.

I’m loving this diet, such an eye opener! I used to think pasta and veg was a great meal. I feel better so that’s good. I’m a size 12 so need to loose a little weight.

A friend swears I need to be stick thin, she was size 12 pcos TTC 18 month. She then got endo flare ups causing drop to size 6, new partner, preg straight away (accident!) and again after that. A little hard to be around her these days with all the nippers.

Everyone’s journey different and I hope the best for you all xxx

Newbie0818 · 12/07/2020 08:43

Thanks @swirls3468 and yay for your ovarian reserve! It's good you've finally got some answers x

@Ronnii I would recommend temping, as it can indicate a progesterone rise, as that might help a little. But as you said it's never really certain. With the weight thing, everyone is different! I'm a slim size 10 and still struggling, and have known people smaller than me to struggle, remember that being too thin can cause ammenorhea in extreme cases. A healthy balanced diet and regular sex are good starting points :)

ChicaXS · 12/07/2020 17:28

@swirls3468 just wanted to say I’m so glad inofolic worked for you as it worked for me and I originally recommended it to you. Really glad to hear it’s regulating your periods.

I went on keto this month and ovulated today on CD 18. Last month I had a 41 CD cycle so even with inofolic it was a lost cause. Tried keto with the aid of tamoxifen and it has lowered my cycle by ten days already! Hopefully next month will be the same (if it’s a BFN) but I’m sticking to keto and inofolic. OPKs did work so much better for me and were accurate this month as I was being monitored with scans. Remove sugar and carbs from your diet ladies just for a trial at the very least x
