Tamoxifen

Hi all

I am about to venture into IVF in the next 2-3 months but want to try one final push at natural conception with ovulation induction. My clinic were happy to do so and prescribed me 40mg of tamoxifen to trial for one month. It’s not clomid (I wonder if this was due to my PCOS) but cannot find any stories on Mumsnet of anyone taking it? Any success stories first time round? I just wonder if it’s worth proceeding but I’d rather exhaust as much natural options before IVF.

Cheers

@Tecalina it’s so nice to hear from you and I’m so happy to hear your doing well! I’m glad the little bubba is doing well too bless her!

Congratulations 🥳 on the house move this month! I think your doing the right thing. We are waiting to move until the renovations are done and everything is slow due to lockdown. We were meant to move before Xmas but now January seems likely. All furniture is on a backlog. It’s all a bit of a mess to be honest but I’m looking forward to 2021. I honestly want this horrible year over!

I had my embryo transfer on Monday! So now it’s a waiting game and I test next Saturday. I’m full of anxiety and actually woke up today worse - somehow I don’t think this transfer worked. I’m not getting ANY symptoms. I do have another embryo that’s normal but I’m actually tempted to do another cycle before the FET whilst I’m 37. I am not sure at the moment, my doctor seems to think I have a good chance of a baby with the 2 healthy and one mosaic but I’m not so sure. So I’m at crossroads about next steps at the moment. X
@Naylor19 good luck on your cycle wishing you the best! Fingers crossed! What clinic are you with? X

@ChicaXS Thankyou :) I'm with ABCIVF x

Tecalina · 25/11/2020 19:53

@Naylor19 Any sign of AF yet?? We were going to use ABC if it got to that stage, my partner's colleague used them and said they were great throughout. Do you agree? Where are you from, by the way? X

@ChicaXS This week has been a nightmare so far! My buyer's solicitor won't stop asking questions and requesting reports so we won't be completing on the 30th, as originally planned 😣 They've been so last minute throughout this whole process, I really wish I could turn up at their office and shout at someone 🙊 But, we're still moving out on Saturday as I'm completely fed up with it all and I've already got the removals guys booked!

How are you feeling? I didn't have any symptoms other than a bit of an ache in my boobs, but I got that every month when I failed to ovulate, so nothing was different for me. It's so easy to focus on symptoms, but they're not the be all and end all. And if it's not successful this time, you have another shot at it 🙂 When you say you're tempted to do another cycle, do you mean attempt to get some more embryos?x

Naylor19 · 25/11/2020 20:06

@Tecalina not yet annoyingly! Should be here any day now 🤞🏻 they've been great with us so far! I'm from Leicestershire so I'm using the oxford clinic x

ChicaXS · 27/11/2020 09:03

@Tecalina that’s so frustrating about the solicitors! Mine was amazing but we had the worst solicitor from the seller era, super lazy and they were scanning documents half copied. We put in a complaint with the agent and that shook them up. I’m sorry you won’t complete this month but remember your moving out anyway and it doesn’t make a difference to your lifestyle as your parents are awesome and you’ll be moving in anyway! So I have some news..... I’m pregnant! Found out this morning - can’t believe it my first cycle of IVF worked. I mean I know it’s going to be a long 12-14 weeks as I’ll be a nervous wreck but I’m just so happy I have this chance! I’m on a medicated hormone transfer meaning I still need to inject every day, take pessaries and ensure I have the right hormones. My clinic won’t know until Monday (I tested a day early as my OTD is tomorrow!) so I am just going to try and enjoy the weekend and celebrate.
How’s the lil one doing? Hopefully she is not giving you too much trouble now with sleep?
@Naylor19
how are you? Did you start yet?

@ChicaXS started stims today 🥳 I have my scans booked in for next Monday, Wednesday & Friday so hopefully egg collection and transfer will be the week after! 🤞🏻 how are things going with you? x

ChicaXS · 27/11/2020 16:17

@Naylor19 nice! How you finding the stims in day 2? Are you on GONAL F and cetrotide? Or menopar/bemfola?

I’m doing well found out today I’m pregnant from my first transfer (it was frozen and an euploid) over the moon! Xxx ☺️🥳🤪

Naylor19 · 27/11/2020 16:30

@ChicaXS oh my god that's incredible!! Congratulations lovely 🥰 that gives me lots of hope! I'm doing bemfola and cetrotide. It's ok so far, I'm just worried about OHSS as I had 23 follicles at my baseline 🙈 x

ChicaXS · 27/11/2020 16:39

@Naylor19 thank you lovely! I had exactly 23 too on my day 7 scan! I ended up getting only 11 eggs and never had OHSS as I have PCOS. If you develop it they will do a freeze all and you can transfer in jan so don’t worry! I’m sure you’ll be fine. What dose are you on with bemfola?

OP posts:
Naylor19 · 27/11/2020 17:41

@ChicaXS oh really! Did you do ICSI? 11 eggs is good! I'm on 150IU of the bemfola x

ChicaXS · 27/11/2020 18:17

@Naylor19 no I never did ICSI I did normal IVF. My DH was on proxeed for 4 months and his sperm analysis was brilliant in the day so we never needed it. We were worried as motility was a bit on the low end (3%) but it shot up to 6% in 4 months! Are you doing ICSI? X

OP posts:
Naylor19 · 27/11/2020 18:52

@ChicaXS oh wow that's great! Well they've advised ICSI for us hubby's count came back slightly low, but I dunno if it was just because we only abstained for 3 days rather than the 5. We've paid for ICSI but if his sample is good on the day we can change it (although they've said they'd still recommend ICSI - not sure if that's just for the extra pennies though!) 🤦🏻‍♀️ x

ChicaXS · 27/11/2020 19:20

@Naylor19 will they refund you if it’s IVF in the end? If it was slightly low it could be the abstain or it’s quality of the month. Proxeed really made a difference. I hope it ends up being IVF. Some clinics try and push ICSI when it’s not needed - my current clinic actually disagreed with Create (my old clinic) and that we didn’t need it (even with his low motility results) despite create mandating we did. Thank good my current clinic was right!

OP posts:
Naylor19 · 27/11/2020 19:35

@ChicaXS yes they will which would be nice as it cost us an extra £1200 🙈 see that's what I worry about, I don't want unnecessary costs so I think of hubby's samples good on the day we'll push for ivf rather than ICSI x

Tecalina · 03/12/2020 13:05

@ChicaXS OH MY GOD!!! Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you 😁 How are you feeling?? Have you got any usual symptoms? How long do you need to inject/monitor for?

We are hopefully completing on our sale tomorrow, and the purchase on Wednesday. Just need my solicitor to pull her finger out! The little one is doing ok. I had to go in for a growth scan because my bump is quite small, but it was lovely to see her on the screen again! She's perfect ❤️ A little taller, with longer legs than average, so she obviously takes after me!xx

@Naylor19 All this IVF and ICSI talk is very confusing, but fascinating! Were your scans this week? If so, how have they gone so far? What are they looking for? Please excuse the ignorance, I have no idea about this wizardry!xx

Naylor19 · 03/12/2020 13:40

@Tecalina it is fascinating! Scans have gone ok so far, I have my final one tomorrow and if I'm ready I'll be triggering and having egg retrieval soon! If I'm not quite there I have a provisional scan booked in for Monday, but I think egg retrieval will definitely be before mid next week so that's exciting! They are looking for follicles of at least 15mm to yield a mature egg and at the minute I have 2x14mm 3x13mm 4x12mm and a few at 11mm ☺️🤞🏻 but from Monday to Wednesday they all grew around 4mm which is great! I think they'll trigger if my bigger ones are at 18mm xx

Tecalina · 03/12/2020 19:16

@Naylor19 Eeeek that sounds promising!! Is ICSI the one where they inject the sperm directly into the egg? When will the hubby get his swimmers checked again?xx

Naylor19 · 03/12/2020 19:48

@Tecalina yes it is :) he won't have to do a sample again now until the day of egg collection and that one will be used to fertilise the eggs! X

Tecalina · 03/12/2020 21:01

@Naylor19 Exciting news!! Did the doctor say you have enough follicles to do the job? I think I only had five when I was at the clinic, it sounds like you have loads!xx

Naylor19 · 04/12/2020 06:51

@Tecalina yeah I don't think there worried about follicles! I'm hoping for maybe 10 mature eggs 🤞🏻 I have lots of little follicles too (thanks for polycystic ovaries) so just monitoring so I don't develop OHSS too x

ChicaXS · 04/12/2020 19:55

@Tecalina thank you ;) I’m full of anxiety at the moment to be honest. Had a bit of a scare but it seems it’s fine and I’m really nervous with the slight cramps, twinges and has type feeling in the uterus which are all symptoms before my period! It’s normal to be paranoid but I’m excessively paranoid as I want to make it to weeks 14 with no hiccups. It’s going to be a stressful pregnancy. But I am happy so I should try and focus on the positive, it’s just so hard and stats have worked against me in the past so I feel like history will repeat itself!
How tall are you? I always think my bubba will be a tall one - not because of me but my DH. I’m 5’4 but DH is 6’3 so I’m expecting a big baby lol!
I hope the move goes smoothly next Wednesday! Not long now. I’m getting quotes for a new bathroom and then we can move in pretty much! Furniture has been stressful as everything is delayed!

@Naylor19 nearly there now! Your trigger must be tomorrow then right? Are you on buserelin because of your PCOS? Are you doing fresh transfer? Thinking of you!! X

OP posts:
ChicaXS · 04/12/2020 19:56

Oh sorry @Tecalina I forgot to add - I have to inject monitor till week 12!

OP posts:
Naylor19 · 04/12/2020 21:01

@ChicaXS yes trigger tomorrow collection Monday! I'm having ovitrelle because my bloods came back ok so we should be going ahead with a fresh transfer next week 🤞🏻☺️ x

Tecalina · 06/12/2020 18:03

@ChicaXS I know it's easier said than done but please try to change your thinking from "history will repeat itself" to "I've suffered enough and now life is rewarding me" ☺️ This is your time now, you deserve this!
Have you done what I did for the first 7 weeks and been taking pregnancy tests almost every day to check up? It's definitely the worst thing you could do, but it's just so tempting 🙈 How many weeks are you? 5?

I'm 6ft tall, my partner is 5'9" so baby definitely has my legs 😂
We won't be moving into the new house until the new year, we're staying with my parents in the meantime, but hoping to complete the purchase on Wednesday (my parents currently own the house we're buying, which is why we were able to get the builders in last month, to move things along a bit!). I honestly can't wait to have our own space with a garden!xx

@Naylor19 I used Ovitrelle! I really hope it all works for you 🤞🏻Again, excuse the ignorance, but how many eggs will they/can they collect? The most I've known is two, but can it be more depending on the person?xx

Naylor19 · 06/12/2020 20:15

@Tecalina no problem, they expect to get about 14-15 eggs tomorrow but we'll see🤞🏻 I have polycystic ovaries so I have more follicles! xx
