Tamoxifen

Hi all

I am about to venture into IVF in the next 2-3 months but want to try one final push at natural conception with ovulation induction. My clinic were happy to do so and prescribed me 40mg of tamoxifen to trial for one month. It’s not clomid (I wonder if this was due to my PCOS) but cannot find any stories on Mumsnet of anyone taking it? Any success stories first time round? I just wonder if it’s worth proceeding but I’d rather exhaust as much natural options before IVF.

Cheers

@Tecalina yes it did! Had the IUI this morning ☺️ so we're now officially entering the tww! Feeling optimistic about this round 🤞🏻 x

Tecalina · 01/09/2020 16:47

@Naylor19 Oh girly, my fingers are tightly crossed for you! The tww always feels like a month-long wait but I hope it was successful!! The things they can do to help people conceive are just amazing, I'm forever in awe of the processes and technologies available!x

ChicaXS · 01/09/2020 19:25

@Naylor19 fingers crossed for you hun!

@Tecalina my first injection just commenced haha! It was surprisingly easy and I worked myself up for nothing but I hardly felt a thing. Even had to inject twice as I didn’t press on the pen properly for the full dose. So day 1 out of 12! Exciting!

How are you doing? Your very lucky with your house indeed! I’m so excited for you, it will be your own to decorate and make your own!

@Tecalina thanks lovely, I know it's amazing what science can do! Just trying to remain hopeful and as stress free as I can during the wait! x

@ChicaXS thanks lovely ☺️🤞🏻

Tecalina · 02/09/2020 11:28

@ChicaXS it's all happening for you now! Please keep me posted along the way, any side effects etc, it'll be interesting to hear your experience!

I'm doing ok thanks, a bit of nausea but other than that I don't feel pregnant at all. Very strange feeling! We will be (hopefully) finding out the sexy next Saturday. I'm a planner by nature, I wouldn't be able to leave it until birth!x

@Naylor19 fingers crossed! Try to stay away from taking early pregnancy tests! I took them religiously for 11 months and the one month I didn't, I got a positive 14dpo. I honestly think it helped me relax a bit more!x

Tecalina · 13/09/2020 19:38

@ChicaXS @Naylor19 Any news?xx

Naylor19 · 13/09/2020 20:14

@Tecalina a failed cycle for me sadly. So onto iui 3. If this one fails I'll be moving onto ivf x

Tecalina · 13/09/2020 20:24

@Naylor19 I'm so sorry to hear that. Thankfully there's the option of ivf, which has pretty good success rates, but my fingers are crossed for lucky number three 🙂 xx

Naylor19 · 13/09/2020 20:29

@Tecalina thanks lovely, how are things progressing for you? Hope it's all going smoothly :) xx

ChicaXS · 14/09/2020 13:54

@Naylor19 sorry to hear of the negative result! As you say - there is always IVf! X

@Tecalina how are you doing? How’s the bubba? Did you find out the sex yet? So exciting!!! How’s the sale of your flat?

We are doing well! I just am the end of my IVF cycle and tigger today for my egg collection on Wednesday! It’s been eventful as unfortunately I was a slow receptor but they upped my dose in the medication from last Wednesday and I basically shot up and my follicles grew. It’s very uncomfortable walking and though not painful and your ovaries are the size of golf balls as opposed to a walnut it’s an annoying ditch pain constantly and walking is annoying too! I’m glad I have two more days of this. Good news is I have 18 follicles let’s just pray that will get me a good number of fertilised embryos! IVF isn’t as bad as I thought, I actually thought the injections were fun (I’m weird like that) and they didn’t hurt. It’s more the disruption to your life with scans every other day! But since we’re still in London and haven’t moved yet it’s fine!

We are meant to exchange this week but the sellers are extremely difficult. The electrical survey (which we paid for) failed and they are refusing to pay for the fixes. On top of that they are cracking the whip on dates to exchange on which we are bewildered to why they are being so awkward about! Nevertheless we should complete end of this month hopefully but I will keep renting my flat in the meantime.

It’s been eventful this month lol xx

Hello ladies, so sorry for the very late reply, extremely busy at work before my holiday, getting everything ready and now I have finally made it to Greece! It's so good to be away from the UK!

@Naylor19 I assume things are progressing nicely! It's annoying I can't have a face-to-face midwife appointment (the 6minute telephone consultation didn't feel quite as thorough!) but I think all is ok! I start the day with a fairly 'flat' stomach then by the end I balloon out...Although I'm not sure whether that's baby or the fact I'm eating all the delicious Greek food in sight! How are you doing? When will you try your next IUI?x

@ChicaXS We went for a private scan to find out the gender but baby was being very awkward! I had to be scanned three times in a day and afterwards the sonographer said she "thought" it was a girl. Naturally, that wasn't good enough for me so I asked some of my mate's colleagues who are obstetricians and I sent off the potty shot to an online company and all professionals have come back with girl. So we're sticking with that until the 20 week! Obviously I would be happy with either, but I've always wanted a little girl ❤️

Ivf seems like witchcraft, growing your follicles so quickly! How was the egg collection?? What news since the 14th Sept??

Your sellers sound like a right pain in the arse! What was the resolution regarding the electrical issues? Are you all ready to complete? I haven't heard anything from my solicitor so I'm assuming everything is going smoothly 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

Naylor19 · 21/09/2020 07:54

@ChicaXS definitely! We're not out of the running yet! Hope everything going well with you!

@Tecalina Aw well I'm glad everything's going as it should be! We're in the mist of our final IUI now, I go in for my monitoring scan on Wednesday.! 🤞🏻 x

Tecalina · 29/09/2020 09:54

@Naylor19 How did the scan go??x

ChicaXS · 29/09/2020 20:11

@Tecalina damn I realised that I never responded! So sorry. So I had my egg collection! Got 11 eggs, 9 fertilised and 6 made it to day five and now they are being tested. I am still contemplating on doing another round of ivf in November- still really confused what to do as it all depends on my embryo results. If I get some positive results - I may just cancel the other round of ivf and do a FET but if I don’t get the results I want I will do another round. So am in limbo land at the moment until we get the results!

We complete and collect our keys on Friday! Super excited and it all worked out in the end. I worked out that we can live in our current flat for a while and we will move in for Xmas. How’s it going with you? How’s the pregnancy? Xxx

Naylor19 · 30/09/2020 06:45

@Tecalina sadly another cancelled cycle. So we've made the decision to move onto IVF now, disappointing but hopefully IVF will improve our odds! x

Tecalina · 03/10/2020 06:46

@ChicaXS Please excuse the ignorance, but I don't know a lot about IVF! What are they testing for? And what will positive test results mean for you? Is that when they'll insert an egg back into you? My fingers are crossed for you results, please keep us posted!!

YAAAAAAY! New house!! Congratulations, that must be a huge weight off your mind! We are still in the selling/buying process, so far so good (I think!). Hoping to complete by the end of November, then we'll have to move in with my parents for a couple of months while the house has some work done. Not ideal as it'll mean a mad rush to get the nursery etc ready before bubba is born, but I'm trying not to think about it now! As for the pregnancy, again I think everything is ok 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've had a few stretching pains but they were barely anything. I'm still not really showing (just a little more podge at the front for normal) but I have my 20 week scan on Monday so I'll find out for good then 🙂xx

Tecalina · 03/10/2020 06:48

@Naylor19 I'm so sorry the IUI didn't work, sending you lots of hugs 🙂 When will you start the ivf process? Will you have to go private or will the NHS help? I so hope it works for you, promise me you'll keep us updated, I find the ivf process so fascinating! The science involved is incredible x

Naylor19 · 03/10/2020 08:24

@Tecalina thanks lovely, we've decided to go private as the nhs wait time is very long due to covid. We've actually got our first scan at our private clinic on the 15th of this month and then our initial consultation on the 19th. So we should be able to start after then! We're doing short protocol too which is a relief ☺️ hope everything going well with you x

Tecalina · 07/10/2020 20:29

@Naylor19 That is a quick turn around, must be a relief for you both! I started tamoxifen privately because I was told I'd have to wait until at leastChristmas for the NHS (it was March at this time). Seeing as this pandemic is getting worse again I doubt I would have started the drugs at all this year. You must keep me posted when you've had your scan etc!
All is good my end, had my 20 week scan on Monday, baby has all the necessary organs and limbs, thankfully 😂

Naylor19 · 07/10/2020 21:15

@Tecalina yes it is, amazing how quick it can be when you go private isn't it! Our nhs clinic said we'd have to wait until next year for ivf and with the pandemic it could be delayed further! I'll defo keep you posted :) aw I'm glad everything's going well! x

ChicaXS · 06/11/2020 15:54

@Tecalina how are you hun?! It’s been a while? I realised I never responded! Sorry. Well a lot has happened. I did IVF and managed to get 2 healthy embryos. They were tested for any genetic abnormalities meaning a better chance of pregnancy and no issues (god willing) with the baby. I’m currently doing a FET which is the embryo transfer this month so fingers crossed I will be pregnancy in December! Pray for us!

We have been so busy with our flat too. We haven’t moved in but we contracted a lot for repairs and decoration so it’s been busy. I can’t even order furniture because of lockdown and we don’t live there so it’s but of a mess lol!

How are you and the pregnancy coming along?! X

@Naylor19 how are you doing? Have you got started with IVF yet? X

Naylor19 · 06/11/2020 16:04

@ChicaXS hey lovely, pleased to hear you've had some good news! I'm starting ICSI this month and doing a fresh transfer mid December so I should know by the new year if it's successful or not! 🤞🏻 good luck with your FET! x

ChicaXS · 08/11/2020 10:23

@Naylor19 great to hear hun! Good luck with your first cycle, I hope it’s a success! Enjoy IVF it’s actually not as bad as it seems! X

Tecalina · 18/11/2020 19:40

@ChicaXS Hello!! I'm so sorry for the late reply, things have been very manic!

That's great news about the healthy embryos and the genetics test results. My fingers are so tightly crossed for you!! Have you had the embryo transfer since your last message? You've gone through such a journey, you must be feeling a mix of emotions right now but I do hope you're ok 😊 You must be so relieved to finally have the flat though, even if it's taking a bit longer to sort!

I'm very well thank you, and little madam is extremely lively...which is reassuring, if not a tad annoying at 3am 🙊 I am now 26 weeks, all went well at the 20 week scan! Haven't met my current midwife and I never will because I need to transfer to St Heliers next week, so antenatal care here in Watford has been extremely poor. I didn't even have a number to contact my midwife for help! Thankfully I haven't needed to!
Buttttt...we are FINALLY moving. We haven't actually signed contracts or got a completion date (I've been told the 30th Nov is likely) but we've already started works on the new house and I just want to get out of where I am now, so we're going to move in with my parents for 6 weeks until the renovations finish. It's all go!xx

@Naylor19 Good luck with the ICSI, please keep us posted! How have you found it all during lockdown?xx

Naylor19 · 18/11/2020 20:26

@Tecalina Thankyou, we ordered meds this week so we should be starting next week as soon as AF arrives! My clinic have worked throughout lockdown so it hasn't effected anything in that sense, but I will have to isolate during stims. Hope everything's going well with you x
