Starting clomid - PCOS diagnosis

Hello all, am 30, DH and I have been ttc for DC2 for over 2.5 years years now. (After the longest referral ever) I was diagnosed with PCOS so have been given metformin 1500 to regulate my cycle, been taking this for a month now. The progesterone blood test shows I am not ovulating so they are sending out a clomid perscription in the post and I'm due to start on my next cycle. (Guessing some time in the nExt two weeks).

Any advice / experiences to share? Anything that I should do along side to increase my chances? Or someone going through the journey - a little nervous but equally excited too!

@cosmo30 I’ve been told to take it at night to try and sleep through the side effects, that’s what I currently do with my metformin. Hopefully if won’t be too bad but it will will be worth it if it works 🤞🏻

@Bec18x on the 100mg dose i had a bit of nausea. and now i have really sore boobs. Finally got a smiley on the CB OPK last Friday. in the two week wait now.

anyone else have really sore boobs after ovulation?

cosmo30 · 30/07/2020 11:56

@Bec18x yes that should help.

@sc1995 I did while on clomid. It's the surge in progesterone apparently. Don't get it now though

Bec18x · 30/07/2020 21:55

Also what other medications/supplements do people take alongside clomid? I'm also on metformin and take a pregnancy multivitamin. Coq10, N acetylcysteine, alpha lipoid acid, vitamin c and vitamin e. I got most of these from the book 'it starts with the egg'. Is there anything else anyone can recommend?

Hi all, sorry to post jump but just wondered.

We are try baby no 2. I have a unicornuate uterus with rudimentary horn and both ovaries (meaning the months that I ovulate from my right ovary I have 0 chance of getting pregnant), and have PCOS to boot. I was prescribed metformin back in march but was wondering if you all managed to get clomid on a normal NHS prescription or are you being treating privately? Is it considered ‘IVF’ as we would not qualify for that having already had one child.

Many thanks for reading if you got this far x

Bec18x · 31/07/2020 22:48

@Trickymiss14 clomid is available on the nhs however you have to be referred to the fertility clinic first and have tests etc.
However you wouldn't qualify for IVF on the NHS as you already have a child x

Trickymiss14 · 01/08/2020 09:46

Thank you for this! X

Congratulations ladies!!!

Leodot · 07/08/2020 09:33

Congratulations @BEESY90 and @sc1995 that’s absolutely brilliant news!! 😍

I didn’t want to say as I was feeling really nervous when I got my BFP a few weeks ago but I had an early scan with my consultant this week and I’m 7 weeks pregnant!! ❤️

Have you been in touch with your consultants yet?

sc1995 · 07/08/2020 09:49

@Leodot thats amazing news. congratulations!!

has your consultant told you to continue taking the metformin and at what dose?
I've not yet contacted mine, ive only tested once. Going to test again and once im 100% sure I'll give them a call

@cosmo30 thank youSmile

Leodot · 07/08/2020 10:13

@sc1995 I’ve asked about the metformin three times and each time they have just said, “we will check and be in touch”. I actually rang my GP in the end who said I could stop, so I did.

cosmo30 · 07/08/2020 10:56

Oh wow lots of bfp's! Congratulations to all of you! Hopefully the rest of us won't be far behind! We are actually booked in for private ivf consultation now, it feels like the right time and the way I see it is if it hasn't happened for us after so long I think we need a little help, so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Leodot · 07/08/2020 11:28

@cosmo30 That’s great news that they’ve got you booked in! Fingers crossed that you will be getting good news soon 😊 xx

sittingwaitingwishing · 07/08/2020 11:37

@BEESY90 Congratulations! Do you mind me asking if you upped your dosage on Clomid for this round - or were you still on 100mg? I remember you saying the last cycle didn’t result in AF or BFP so just curious! My first cycle at 50mg didn’t make me ovulate. On second cycle now, 24 days since I took my first Clomid tablet on this second cycle so I’m counting it as CD24. I didn’t test with OPK sticks this month but my boobs have been so sore for over a week now so I’m keeping my fingers crossed I ovulated this cycle. I’ll be on 50mg for cycle 3, so looking for positive stories of people staying on the same dosage and having a successful cycle even if the ones prior didn’t work in causing ovulation, if that makes sense!!
