Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@thissucks1 I think it's just the timescale it all takes. Perhaps if a problem had been identified we'd have been on the waiting list quicker. Everyone will be seen within a year but she said most are reaching the list within 6 months. So potentially a year and a half after first appointment 😮 Haven't looked at going private. Still have a glimmer of hope that something might happen before IVF xx

@Thissucks1 We have done all the tests and now are just waiting for a start date and protocol.
Once you are at the top of the list things start moving faster than before which is nice.

That seems a crazy timescale but I guess it's a small process to pay. Hopefully it all works out naturally for you.

That's good. My friend was seen, tests done and embryo inserted and had a bfp within 6 weeks but she paid for it.

@Pinecone88 Can I ask - when did you officially go on the list and where will your treatment centre be?

Pinecone88 · 05/12/2019 09:55

@Thissucks1 Yes, if you pay you get stuff even faster. I am very grateful that NHS in Scotland offers 3 rounds as we would not be able to afford it otherwise.

@NG9876 We went on the waiting list mid May and were at the top of the list mid September. We have MFI and are getting treatment at Ninewells.

That was quite quick - I'm pleased to hear that. Good luck with the next stage xx

That's fab Pinecone88.

I'm trying to stay positive for all of you lovely people for a speedy process, half the battle is the waiting I'm sure.

Has anyone taken pre conception vitamins?
Due to my b12 and iron being low I bought pregnacare pre conception vitamins to help boost my levels up before I'm referred to nine wells and I'm not sure if they've had an affect on me or if my body is just being a troll but... I haven't had a normal flobag since before my daughter was conceived so about 6 years ago. Had her and although I have got them each month as I should, they've never been what I'd call normal. Started taking my vitamins only 4 days ago and yesterday flobag showed her stupid wee face but its normal just like before. Is it coincidental or can they be something to do with it?

I am struggling lately, I keep calling the hospital every week and they keep saying it will be soon, but nothing seems to be moving forwards.

I kind of thought that festive season would not affect me much as I know we are about to start sometime early 2020, but I guess because I was expecting it to move faster I feel disappointed and sad. Hate waiting!
Also it doesn't help that one of my colleagues is pregnant and keeps talking about it aaand she also has been smoking all through her pregnancy so far. I know it does not directly affect me and it's non of my business, but it's just hard.

Anyway.. just a little moan tonight Sad

@Thissucks1 pre conception vitamins seemed to help make my leutal phase longer so I definitely think they do something.

@Pinecone88 it's so frustrating when you're just waiting. Hopefully with Christmas coming up it'll help take your mind off it. I also find it different being around women who are pregnant, it's rough 😩

We've been referred for ICSI so it's just a waiting game now. Male factor infertility - very low sperm count. Will need to research ways of increasing it.

@justbeingelle Thank you 🙂 I feel better now and more hopeful as I got a call from the hospital. They are sending out a package with our start date and medicines, should get it next week 🤞

I assumed the hospital would keep you in the loop with a timeline but I'm so glad you've now heard from them. Keep us all posted. Excited for you!!

@justbeingelle same as us. Just recently on the waiting list. Well man conception is what my hubby takes. Do they know why your hubby’s is low?

Report
justbeingelle · 15/12/2019 16:22

@Scotgirl1 no they can't find a reason for it. Al blood tests and an ultrasound came back clear. Is there a reason for your DHs?

Hi, can I join. We are waiting to start treatment for mfi. Got an appointment in January then should start soon after that😀it's been a year since our first referral.

@justbeingelle it could be a varicocele that he has but they dismiss it at the hospital and say surgery is unlikely to help. I’m hoping it’s not too long a wait but want to make sure I keep myself busy and enjoy myself before it all starts Smile

@Mrsmch123 welcome! That’s great you are just about to start. How long was your wait once you went on the waiting list?

Thank you😀we got put on the list at the start of September. Had an appointment in November for swabs and bloods. Then back in January to sign consent forms. Would have been sooner but they close for 3 weeks in December.
