Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

Thanks all for your responses, you’re all so kind. I’m just so glad the fertility nurse agreed to see me this week! Our ‘check list’ appointment wasn’t scheduled until the 27th of the month but she’s brought us forward to this week so we could still have a chance of referral to nine wells despite my hycosy being cancelled...
Thank you for your comment about not being penalised @LabradorMum - I hadn’t considered that they would take cancellations into account in terms of the waiting time

Hi @Eiremogra, that’s a positive at least you will be in the system and possibly towards the top of the list.

I asked the question when we first went into lockdown in March 2020 and I was told that any cancellations pauses would be taken into account and added to waiting time, as it’s not our fault this happened so we shouldn’t be penalised for it.

Anyone invested in my period arriving it's still not here haha
I can FEEL it coming though it's just not happening it's so annoying

@willithappen what a bitch! That sucks you're still waiting.

She's finally showed her face this morning 😂 and she's come with a vengeance too!

I haven't had a 30 day cycle in a long long time so found it strange for this month to be! It's not unusual for me to have a 29 day cycle though! Thing is if I have a longer cycle like this going by my charts the next one is usually a 26 day cycle or something similar so it usually always evens itself out.

I was too eager to call (I was going to try wait until 10 to give them time to set up) so I called just now 🙈
Similar to @pixelflower but they had me pencilled in for EC but not in any of the other dates but all sorted

So mine are - start northisterone 2nd Feb - 8th Feb, baseline scan 12th Feb and injections from 13th (I don't know if they give me my first one on 12th then send me home to do it myself from 13th or if the 13th is the first day of taking though). Scan on 22nd and 24th and then EC on the 26th

It's actually not any different than the initial dates I was given based off my period starting yesterday, although nurses call said I'd have a scan on 19th as well.

I'm happy it's all rolling now though! Now on to the next 21 days of waiting haha

@willithappen whoo hooo 🥳

I am dreading taking the pills heard such mixed reviews about them some people have said they were ok others said it was like a lifetime of PMT rolled into a week 🤦🏼‍♀️

Report
willithappen · 13/01/2021 10:41

@LabradorMum I think I have taken them a few years ago when I went to T in the Park and didn't want my period for that haha. I can't remember how they made me feel though tbh!
I think my lighter periods have been ever since taking those actually.

I think my excitement will take over hopefully! At least I'm only two days behind you guys so close enough but still lucky enough to have you give me a heads up for what happens hah. Have you had your protocol sent through from hospital yet?

Report
LabradorMum · 13/01/2021 11:23

@willithappen suppose just have to wait and see how they affect 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am just going to try and go with the flow try not to read too much into things as it can sometimes put you off and make you anxious. Not yet she said she would email them to me, have to wait and see I think I may phone closer to the time as I am not 100% sure if I phone the day I get my period after stopping the pills and go in the next day or what

Report
willithappen · 13/01/2021 12:09

@LabradorMum so I did actually ask on the phone this morning about that, if we had to phone when period comes after the tablets and she said no. I also asked if any of the dates could potential change depending on when I next bleed and she said no these dates wouldn't change. Not sure if that changes per person

I guess we'll know more when our protocol is emailed out to us though. Now is the anxious wait to get that through and for day 21 to come haha.

Report
LabradorMum · 13/01/2021 15:47

@willithappen that’s really odd as what if you don’t have a bleed exactly when they thought you would, I thought you had to have a bleed to have a baseline scan 🤔

Report
pixelflower · 13/01/2021 15:59

@willithappen welcome to the next wait 🤣
When I phoned she mentioned that they've stopped doing one of the scans. I'm hoping that hope instead of disappointment helps balance out mad hormones. My prescription for Norethisterone came today. I was hoping the other info would come with it but no.

willithappen · 13/01/2021 16:06

@LabradorMum that's what I thought also, maybe more info about it on the protocol that's sent out

@pixelflower I think they email it out to us. She told me either end of this week or start of next I'd get it emailed out :)

I feel a little like we are being pushed through super quick and things are maybe being missed, I hope I’m wrong but just get that feeling and I hope it doesn’t affect the treatment we are receiving

Report
pixelflower · 13/01/2021 16:20

@willithappen Ah, she never mentioned email to me, just that she'd get prescription sent out and protocol would follow. Yet again glad that can talk about things with you two 😊

Report
LabradorMum · 13/01/2021 16:25

Yeah she said email to me too 😁 The prescription is a letter so I had to hand mine the surgery to get a prescription sent to the chemist.

I got my follow up letter today from the video appointment with the doc she kept referring to me in the letter by my surname which is a little disconcerting

pixelflower · 13/01/2021 16:38

@LabradorMum just your surname? Odd

Hi ladies,

I'm with you also now Smile
AF arrived last night, starting Menopur tomorrow, First scan will be next week Friday and EC the week after, either straight on Mon 25th or one of the following days depending on what the scan shows.

Eek! It's becoming very real now!
Good luck everyone!

Report
willithappen · 13/01/2021 17:52

Ohhh awesome @jonrik I think you are a month ahead of @LabradorMum @pixelflower and myself!
Sorry if I have asked this before I get confused a lot - are you with Aberdeen also yeah?

Yeah @LabradorMum I'm a little scared of things getting missed because it does seem like a few things have been missed so far, minor though!
I'll be excited once Feb comes as I'll see that as my official IVF month! So can't wait for Jan to be over lol

Report
jonrik · 13/01/2021 18:19

Ah that's right, my protocol seems extra short.
I'm in Glasgow. So exciting! I'll keep you up to date on how things are progressing Smile

Report
pixelflower · 13/01/2021 18:27

@jonrik exciting! Hope you get on ok tomorrow. Is Menopur injections?

I'm hoping that once we're going in to the clinic it'll be more like the usual/routine so won't be things missed.

Report
LabradorMum · 13/01/2021 18:37

@pixelflower the letter is address to my full name and some of the letter but she called me and referred to me by my surname and the latter then changes half way through to my surname which I thought odd, it maybe a cultural thing as I have had it happen ag work before.

@jonrik how exciting you are a lot further forward 😁

@willithappen yeah it’s just a little worrying, but I’m sure it will be fine.

Yes @pixelflower, injections every day and then we'll check the size of the follicles next week. Nice and fat is what we're going for is what the nurse said today Grin

I just got an email with my treatment schedule now! Didn't expect it this quickly!

Report

@jonrik will be sending fat thoughts your way then 😂
@LabradorMum must be disconcerting reading that
@willithappen I just received my email too. Glad to know appointment times, takes a bit of pressure off work wise as none are so early I couldn't make it in time if I'm working the night before.
