Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@nextweek I can get my results by phone next week if necessary. The amount of people coughing and snivelling in the surgery this morning has put me off going in to see GP next week! At the end of the day. Even though this is important to us both. It's not urgent and we can wait. Fingers crossed this doesn't escalate too much! Yes I've heard really good things about fertility help here.

How’s everyone doing? Just saw on Facebook someone’s fresh cycle at the Royal has been cancelled due to COVID 19. I know there are worse things happening because of this virus but honestly if my treatment doesn’t go ahead in April (which is not looking likely) I will be devastated, 3 years and 3 months so far, only thing that has kept me going was having the light at the end of the tunnel coming up Sad

nextweek · 15/03/2020 17:49

@kikisparks I know it's a horrible thought, especially when you've been waiting for so long, but I think it's likely that some cycles will get cancelled and those of us that are waiting to start will be delayed. I've not spoken to my clinic as we're still a couple months away from starting, so that's just my own personal thoughts.

Mrsmch123 · 15/03/2020 18:37

@kikisparks we must be in the same group as I saw it to. We are supposed to go on wed for prostap but it's very unlikely that will happen now. It's so frustrating that we got so close for it all to be postponed.

justbeingelle · 15/03/2020 18:51

I saw that too, it's hard not to feel upset that everything will be delayed 😞

Do you think that due to people's being postponed it will put back the waiting time or appointments for any of us who have ones later down the line?

I have an appointment 28th April but it's a review appointment to confirm that my partner has stopped smoking and to officially put us on waiting list. Hoping things have calmed down by then but would completely understand if my appointment would be given to someone who was meant to be this month and was pushed back.

kikisparks · 16/03/2020 16:43

@willithappen I think it will mean that as everyone who is getting cancelled is getting told they’re still at top of the list Sad which is a real shame for you and everyone in your position as being on the waiting list is no fun either. I phoned the Royal today and receptionist said no new treatments will be booked for months. I’ve not had it confirmed my April treatment date is cancelled yet but think it’s inevitable. She said to keep checking the website but there’s nothing there yet.

This is the message on the Glasgow Royal Fertility Clinic (the private part rather than the nhs part of the Assisted conception service) website just now.

“Clinic will be postponing all treatment
All treatments will be postponed. The European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) have made the following statement and in conjunction with those NHS GGC managers we have decided to postpone all treatments to keep you safe.

"As a precautionary measure - and in line with the position of other scientific societies in reproductive medicine - we advise that all fertility patients considering or planning treatment, even if they do not meet the diagnostic criteria for Covid-19 infection, should avoid becoming pregnant at this time. For those patients already having treatment, we suggest considering deferred pregnancy with oocyte or embryo freezing for later embryo transfer."

We will therefore be freezing oocytes or embryos and will be in touch with all patients.”

Totally gutted. Just when you feel like you are getting somewhere it’s like being back at square one. I know it makes sense it’s just tough. I wonder if they will continue with routine appointments? I am due for bloods and swabs soon

spacegirl123 · 17/03/2020 02:00

Hi ladies, anyone getting treatment at EFREC in Edinburgh? I'm mid-FET, scan on Wednesday to find out if my transfer's going ahead next week. I've heard nothing from the clinic which I guess is good news, but surprised they're not calling off treatment at this stage. Like all of you I'mm be devastated if it's called off. This is my 6th cycle and so exhausted by it all. The thought of starting again... 😩 agh, I know we're all in the same boat.

And my sister announced she's pregnant yesterday. So happy for her but... you know.

spacegirl123 · 17/03/2020 02:04

Also @kikisparks that's a bit worrying... if that's the case why haven't ongoing cycles been stopped? So hard to know what to do 😢

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 05:52

@spacegirl123 I heard they’re doing freeze all for ongoing cycles.

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 05:53

@Scotgirl1 I’m waiting for a call back about my virology bloods but for others on Facebook they’re getting cancelled too.

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 05:55

@spacegirl123 sorry I missed your other comment. People’s FETs are getting cancelled at the Royal, of course EFRC might do things differently. Sorry to hear that about your sister, such rubbish timing to deal with a pregnancy announcement.

spacegirl123 · 17/03/2020 09:06

Hey, I called this morning, cancelled as expected 😢 I completely understand but it's heartbreaking all the same, especially as I was so close to my transfer. It's for the best and now I just have to worry about my pregnant sister 😢😢😢

Take care everyone xxx

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 12:11

@spacegirl123 so sorry Sad hope you take care too. All we can hope for now is that this is over in a few months and that all our loved ones are ok Flowers

BeHereNowx32 · 17/03/2020 16:55

My FET was cancelled at the royal today. I had started down regg and was due to start the tablets. I did think it could happen, but it’s disappointing. Sorry for everyone else going through it too

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 19:09

@BeHereNowx32 sorry to hear that.

My mood changes day to day, or sometimes hour to hour, I’ve been really upset but right now I’m thinking we will get through it, we have made it this far, hopefully in 3-4 months time things are starting up again and we’ll get back on track.

kikisparks · 17/03/2020 19:10

How are things going for you @Pinecone88?

Pinecone88 · 17/03/2020 19:22

@kikisparks I am doing fine, waiting for my test day this Sunday 🤞 Working from home now, so feel safer now if I am pregnant.

I am sorry your cycle is getting postponed, this all situation sucks 😝

mrsawhite · 18/03/2020 11:27

How are we all? I'm thinking we will have to phone the fertility clinic and see what they are saying with regards to coming in. Same with GP as can't see them having non urgent people coming in!

willithappen · 21/03/2020 10:25

So I got a letter in today that my appointment for the end of April has been changed to a video appointment instead. It's a review appointment after them sending us away after HyCoSy to say my partner had to have stopped smoking for three months before going further.
I guess they won't test him? I dunno how all this is working. They are meant to put us on waiting after this appointment but I can just see more curveballs being thrown with everything going on. That 6 month waiting list isn't going to double at the least surely :(

nextweek · 21/03/2020 19:44

@willithappen That's good that you're still going to get your test results, not sure what they'll do about testing your hudband, perhaps do that when you get to the 'top of the list'. Its so frustrating not knowing how long we're going to be waiting now, it's hard enough in normal circumstances.
Hope everyone is keeping well in the meantime

willithappen · 21/03/2020 20:30

@nextweek oh I have all my results, got the HyCoSy results as it was being done. Not waiting on anything other than we were told to come back after it had been three months of partner stopping smoking and then we'd be put on the list so that's what this appointment is for :/

nextweek · 21/03/2020 22:18

Sorry @willithappen I misunderstood your post. Hopefully they'll take your word for it that he has stopped smoking if they cant test in person

Lily999 · 22/03/2020 07:26

Good morning! Do I remember correctly @pinecone88 is today your test day?
Hope everyone is staying safe!
