Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

@justbeingelle thank you! It’s funny they said that they need to decide if you need ICSI as I was told they were doing all ICSI at the moment, although it could have changed since I was last there. They said they get better results from it even without male factor issues.

I hope the follow up appointment goes well and you get the news you want.

kikisparks · 05/03/2020 19:22

@Lily999 oh congratulations that’s incredible! Smile

Pinecone88 · 05/03/2020 19:40

@justbeingelle Thank you, the ET will be this Sunday. How was your holiday? :)

@Lily999 Congrats on the ultrasound! Great news! :)

@NG9876 Thank you, not long to go now :)

During my ER embryologist also mostly was talking about sperm count, when I asked about morphology he said it matters, but not that much. I kind of always thought it is an important one. My husband's went up from 0.5% to 1.5% and we were very happy, but embryologist did not care much :D

Lily999 · 06/03/2020 11:23

Thank you very much, we are thrilled for the news. Announcing tonight to my sister and her family, so excited already. Bought little T-shirts to her kids saying "I have been promoted to big cousin" I will put them on the kids and tell them to run out to the living room wearing them so we don't actually have to say anything :)

As always, if any of you have any questions at all please just ask, I will be checking this thread.

justbeingelle · 06/03/2020 18:16

@Pinecone88 it was great thank you, just what we needed 😊

Awww that is the cutest way to announce! Hope all goes well!

Went to doctor today. She was lovely. Starting us on tests straight away. I feel better about everything.

kikisparks · 06/03/2020 19:59

@Pinecone88 how did the call today go?

kikisparks · 06/03/2020 20:00

@mrsawhite glad to hear it went well and you’re feeling better Smile

Pinecone88 · 06/03/2020 21:05

@kikisparks It went well, we still have 6 good quality embryos so we are all booked in for Sunday transfer :)
I did go into hospital today as I had bloating and other stuff after the retrieval, but they checked everything and I am ok.

kikisparks · 06/03/2020 22:29

@Pinecone88 that’s fantastic about your embryos, sounds like you’ll have a few Frosties! And I’m glad you’ve been checked and are ok. Best of luck for Sunday!

Pinecone88 · 06/03/2020 22:40

@kikisparks Thank you for the support 🙂

justbeingelle · 07/03/2020 13:18

@mrsawhite glad it went well!

@Pinecone88 good luck for tomorrow! Keeping everything crossed for you!

@justbeingelle Thank you :)
It went very well, embryo is on board :D
They transferred 1 5AA embryo and froze 3 4AA embryos, I am very happy about the numbers and quality. Now the 2 week wait begins....

kikisparks · 08/03/2020 17:40

@pinecone88 aaaah how exciting, glad it went well! And excellent to have so many good quality embryos. How did you find the full bladder thing, I’ve heard a lot about that!

Fingers crossed for a quick TWW for you, are you doing fun things to distract you or more taking it easy?

Pinecone88 · 08/03/2020 17:50

@kikisparks Thanks! 🙂
I thought it was fine, obv a bit uncomfortable as they were pressing on the bladder, but fine.
I have a lot of work, so that will keep me busy, I am just going on with my life as normal 🙂

mrsawhite · 10/03/2020 10:11

Thanks all. Feel like at least we are doing something about it now. DH booked in to give a sample next week. I have blood test this week. And then in 2 weeks discuss my results and an examination (Eugh). Is this just like having a smear?

Lily999 · 10/03/2020 10:37

@Pinecone88 congrats on becoming PUPO! When is your OTD?the 22nd?

Pinecone88 · 10/03/2020 13:02

@Lily999 Thank you! Yes it's 22nd 😬
Just going on with life as usual(ish) and will see what happens 🙂

kikisparks · 10/03/2020 13:14

@mrsawhite I found it not as bad as a smear. In a way it’s just as invasive but was less painful for me (any fiddling about with my cervix is pretty painful for me).

mrsawhite · 10/03/2020 13:45

@kikisparks ah ok. Yes I hate smears (who doesn't?) and I'm the same. And prodding of the cervix is hideous. When I had my coil put in a few years ago the cramps were awful. What are they looking for? Assuming I will get an ultrasound at some point too. Sigh. It's a long road and just at the start!

nextweek · 12/03/2020 09:25

Great to hear that some of you are progressing with your treatment and things are going well. I'm getting very impatient waiting for our next appointment to discuss getting started but not much else we can do!

mrsawhite · 12/03/2020 09:53

@nextweek what stage are you at? We've only just started. My GP surgery has said for non urgent people to basically not come in. I asked if I should still have blood test today. They said yes fine. But will play it by ear for appointment next week with GP!

nextweek · 12/03/2020 10:12

@mrsawhite We were added to the waiting list for IVF at the end of last year and we've had a letter in without consent forms, so we've got an appointment in early April to go in and discuss starting our treatment. We also have to attend an information evening (we're in Aberdeen)

mrsawhite · 12/03/2020 10:25

Oh @nextweek there is a couple of us in Aberdeen! Oh it's a long road isn't it. I have to wait and see what these bloods say. Then go to GP next week. Depending if the world hasn't gone mad. DH has appointment at fertility clinic next week too.

nextweek · 12/03/2020 10:39

@mrsawhite fingers crossed your appointments don't get cancelled/delayed. I was feeling so impatient for our appointment, but now I'm glad it's still a little while away and hopefully we'll know better about the coronavirus situation by then.
We've had a couple of appointments at the clinic already and all the staff have been so lovely so you'll be in good hands when you get to that stage :-)
