Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone, I'm freaking out a bit. I had a text book cycle last month due to letrozole which I was thrilled with. This month things aren't looking as good - I haven't had a scan but my OPK tests are still low at the time in the cycle when they had started getting stronger and stronger last month. I have had some ewcm - but am worried that this month is going to be another waste of time. Does anyone have experience of their cycles not being identical on letrozole month to month? Thank you!

Rg1987 · 27/08/2020 08:44

Anyone??

Chicasimona · 27/08/2020 09:17

Hi @Rg1987
Nothing to worry about. I did six cycles and me cycle lengths were between 25-29 days. There was a month when I didn't have a positive Opk but the blood test confirmed ovulation so don't be hard on yourself. Now thinking back I wish I didn't do any Opks at all because it just stressed me out even more.
Good luck 🤞

Rg1987 · 27/08/2020 09:48

@chicasimona thank you. I hope its the same for me 🤞🏼

PuffinPippin · 27/08/2020 22:02

Hi @Rg1987
Hope you are doing ok - sorry for the slow reply!
I've had a weird cycle this month too unfortunately- so who knows what's going on. Fingers crossed for both of us next month x

PuffinPippin · 27/08/2020 22:30

By the way - has anyone on here had a HyCoSy scan to check tubes are ok?

The nurse said they would usually recommend it after 3 cycles of letrozole - but you can't have the letrozole the cycle of the scan, because of risk to possible pregnancy. I feel like it takes me a while to get used to the letrozole and I'm only just starting to get more regular cycles...so I don't really want to stop and start it....ideally I'd like to keep taking the letrozole so I hopefully still have a regular cycle and just not try that month!?

Rg1987 · 28/08/2020 06:28

@PuffinPippin thanks hun. i just got my static smiley now so all might not be lost just yet.
i've not had a hycosy scan but my doctor said to do one after 4 months of confirmed ovulation....
i think remaining on letrozole is a good idea though

rubywoo24 · 11/10/2020 12:12

Hi everyone! Thought I'd come back and check on this thread but it's been a while.
Update from me: first 3 cycles of Letrozole were unsuccessful, so had my hycosy done. That was all clear so I was prescribed 3 more rounds of Letrozole. Only issue now is that was back in June and I haven't had a period since then to be able to actually do a cycle :( does anyone else have experience of this? I'm not sure if I should ring the clinic and let them know

@rubywoo24

I had a similar problem before my first cycle of letrozole when I rang the clinic they sorted out a course of norethisterone which after a few days of stopping it should make your period start so you can then start the letrozole again.

Definitely give the clinic a call! They might want you do a pregnancy test beforehand too

rubywoo24 · 11/10/2020 12:39

Thanks @PuffinPippin I'll give them a call tomorrow!

Up date from me...I’ve had 3 cycles at 5mg letrozole, the last one was really weird and I didn’t even ovulate. I was given the option of either going up to 7.5mg this cycle or having a hycosy.

I’m a bit paranoid that everything at the clinic is going to stop because of covid so I opted to try 7.5mg. Good size follicle at day 12 so in the 2ww at the moment and will call the clinic tomorrow to see if my progesterone level showed I ovulated.

If no success this cycle then I’ll have a
Hycosy scan.

It’s really hard to focus during the 2ww...time seems to pass really slowly!

rubywoo24 · 11/10/2020 13:18

Fingers crossed for you @PuffinPippin do you get monitored for each cycle?

OP posts:
PuffinPippin · 11/10/2020 13:57

@rubywoo24 so far yes, I think if my blood test shows i ovulated with 7.5mg then will just go on to have 2 cycles without monitoring...

How was the hycosy scan process? Did you get much discomfort afterwards?

rubywoo24 · 11/10/2020 21:10

Ah ok, I only got monitored on the 1st cycle, the other 2 they just assumed I ovulated etc but it would have been reassuring if they checked each time. I keep thinking maybe the first time was a fluke?
The hycosy was ok, I was a bit nervous as I heard it can be painful so I'd taken 2 paracetamol an hour before. The actual process was uncomfortable/slightly painful when she was digging around but as soon as it's done I was fine. And that's coming from someone with a very low pain threshold! I went alone as well as I didn't want anyone having to hang around outside for ages (they wouldn't have been able to come in because of Covid). And I was able to drive home afterwards with no pain, so actually not nearly as bad as I had imagined. I know the experience is different for each person, but I'd say it's worth doing, as they pretty much tell you the results straight away

@rubywoo24 thanks- that’s really helpful!

IsEverythingNormalYet · 12/10/2020 11:37

Hi guys,
Just an update from me (previous name @Rg1987)
I sort of wondered about posting an update but I always liked to read good news cos it gave me hope. Anyway I am 8+2 pregnant :)
Still very early days but we saw a heartbeat on our first scan a few days ago.
I was on 2.5mg in June which didn't make me ovulate, I then got put up to 5mg in July and it worked the second month we tried on that dosage.
Fingers crossed for good news at the 12 week scan.
I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all of you
Xxx

PuffinPippin · 12/10/2020 13:21

@IsEverythingNormalYet that’s great news! Congratulations! I was wondering with the recent posts how you were getting on and hoped that you had had some success.

It’s really nice to hear that letrozole does work some times! All the best x

IsEverythingNormalYet · 12/10/2020 13:45

@PuffinPippin thank you so much. all the best to you too x

rubywoo24 · 12/10/2020 19:17

Also @PuffinPippin thanks for the advice, I called the clinic this morning and they have prescribed me Provera, so hopefully that will get things going

Hi, just wanted to say hi @rubywoo24 we live in the same area and I'm also talking letrozole too (for baby no2). Just finished taking 7.5mg days 2-6 so now waiting for fertile week next week.

PuffinPippin · 13/10/2020 08:26

@rubywoo24 no problem at all, glad you managed to get it sorted!

rubywoo24 · 13/10/2020 16:09

Hi @YouBoggleMyMind good luck! Hope it goes well for you :) is this your 1st cycle?

OP posts:
YouBoggleMyMind · 13/10/2020 16:41

Thank you 😊
This is my second cycle but 3rd ovulation induction cycle over all. I did a round of 100mg clomid but I didn't respond so they swapped me to letrozole. I started on 7.5mg and had a good response but didn't get pregnant.

roxyfoxy89 · 03/11/2020 20:23

Hi everyone, hoping to reignite this thread as I'm in need of some urgent advice!

TTC for 18 months. The first 9 months I ovulated regularly, last nine months was all over the place so the fertility clinic gave me letrozole. I'm on CD13 of my first month taking 2.5mg. The fertility clinic said they want to do a scan before I ovulate to check there aren't too many follicles (don't fancy having quads!) but I'm not booked in until Thursday. Tonight I've had a positive ovulation test and lots of EWCM! So my question is, should I risk it and try with my husband tonight? Or is the risk of multiple birth fairly high?
