Hello - is anyone able to give me a rough idea of timescales for NHS IVF at the Nuffield/ Victoria Wing Woking - from submission of forms at Royal Surrey to first appointment?
Thanks!

I didn’t have this issue myself but it must be frustrating. I did have a few smaller issue with them because I’ve been told two different information from two nurses. First we’ve got the green light to start on Friday then the next lady said no way as I’m number 60 on the waiting list but then she checked it again and said that actually the drugs have been ordered for me so I should be ok to start.
Today I went to the hospital and we’ve got the green light to start. Tomorrow is baseline scan, drugs are being delivered and my period just started! We are so happy to start finally but it was a massive surprise! Btw there were really kind and helpful today!

Sparklingreality · 08/07/2020 22:11

Hey! Is anyone on here doing a fresh cycle now? We started on Friday, so far everything is going well! It’d be nice to know if someone else is going through the same right now.

MissKittie · 09/07/2020 09:39

Thank you @duckhouse

Hi @Sparklingreality, I also started Friday. My next scan is tomorrow which I can’t wait to find out how the meds are working. Was feeling fine for the last few days but now I’m just an emotional mess. I’m guessing you also have a scan tomorrow?

Sparklingreality · 09/07/2020 10:10

@MissKittie
Yes I have my next scan on Friday! So exciting! Are you having egg collection on Monday if everything goes well?
I’m not feeling anything other than slight bloat on one side.

MissKittie · 09/07/2020 10:42

@Sparklingreality yes also the Monday, but I have been told those dates are just a guideline and might not go to plan but still very excited. I guess we will find out more after tomorrows scan. Other than being a bit emotional I’m not feeling much. Though I’m not enjoying the morning injection, find the needle is not as sharp.

Sparklingreality · 10/07/2020 07:27

@MissKittie

Yes i’ve been told the same. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
My husband is doing my morning injection because I found it harder to do that one. I kept poking myself and the needle wasn’t going in😁 I have no issue with the evening one (Menopur)

MissKittie · 12/07/2020 11:42

@Sparklingreality

Hope your scan went well? I had 2 very large follicles so having my egg collection on Monday which I wasn’t expecting at all, if anything I thought they would tell me to inject longer. All together I had 4 mature but the nurse said I’d probably have 6 in total by Monday. Feeling a bit anxious now to what the outcome will be. Hope things go well for you.

Sparklingreality · 12/07/2020 11:48

@MissKittie

I have to go back on Monday for another scan as I only had one large and all the others were just a bit under. So mine will be on Wednesday! Although I found it weird that on the first scan I they told me at least 15-18 number and on the second scan on Friday she only told me about 10-12. I think they are mainly looking for the large follicles but I was still surprised.
Did you do the trigger injection? How was it? Good luck for you for tomorrow. Let me know how it went! It’s so exciting! 😊 Is this your first one?

MissKittie · 12/07/2020 22:33

@Sparklingreality

I think the second scan they are only interested in the more mature ones. Did the trigger injection on Saturday night, my husband got all nervous about mixing the injections as he didn’t want to mess up the most important one 😂. Was really great not having to wake up today and inject myself first thing. This is are first time so all new for us. Thank you and hope it goes well for you too.

UnicornPuff · 15/07/2020 21:33

@Sparklingreality and @MissKittie how are you getting on?
I had a failed cycle at the start of this year, just waiting for AF for second and covid happened (nothing to freeze). I have been told I have been put on the waiting list for a full fresh cycle. Does anyone know what the waiting time for this might be? @sparklingreality did they say how you went from 60 to the top? I have had wishful thinking that it would be this month but AF is due Friday and I wouldn't have time to get meds or anything.
Last time I was on long protocol but been told they are now only doing short. Will this get less eggs? I know quality over quantity, we are MFI we collected 9 eggs on long with 7 fertilising, 5 doing well till day 3. Day 5, 1 poor blast and one late morula both returned with BFN. We have been told egg quality was fine it was sperms quality so I really want more eggs this time with the hope we get one that does a bit better!
@duckhouse it doesnt make rudeness acceptable but i believe most of the staff were redeployed during covid and were sent to places that were caring for palliative patients etc. I was redeployed during the peak. I tell my patients it was ok and smile but I also find myself crying a lot for pretty much no reason and a little less patience for things that I would normally have all day for.

MissKittie · 15/07/2020 21:52

@UnicornPuff

Not sure how long the waiting time is but I would recommend calling on the day of your AF. I called on the Wednesday and by Friday they had delivered all the meds to my house and had my first scan on the Friday too. I was also told they are only doing short protocols but I was was meant to have a short protocol from the beginning. I had egg collection on Monday which went well, everyone makes you feel very relax and it goes quiet quickly. I only had 4 eggs retrieved. All 4 where injected with sperm (ICSI) unfortunately we lost one which is normal. We now have 3 embryos growing and having transfer on Saturday morning. Hope you don’t have to wait too long.

@Sparklingreality how was egg collection today, hope you feeling alright. I felt fine straight afterwards but then it hits you later in the afternoon. I would also recommend getting the laxatives they recommend as I was very uncomfortable last night, you can by it from boots.

All the best ladies x

Sparklingreality · 15/07/2020 22:00

@UnicornPuff
I don’t really know how I ended up starting but my situation was the same. I went there in Thursday for a test and back again on Friday for a scan. On that afternoon all my meds were delivered. I was going to have short protocol anyway so that didn’t make any difference to me. They did say when I called that they are on number 10 in the list but that was 2 weeks ago. I’d try and call again and see what they can do.

@MissKittie
Everything went really well, I don’t have much pain at all. I was worried about that. I had 6 matured eggs collected today and I’m waiting for the call tomorrow to see how many fertilised. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 What kind of laxative did they recommend?

MissKittie · 15/07/2020 22:16

@Sparklingreality

That’s great the got 6 eggs. Waiting for the call in the morning is very nerve racking! They recommend lactulose.
All the best for your call tomorrow morning.

80SM · 15/07/2020 23:11

Hi ladies,

I am also starting at the end of July, just waiting for my period to come.

Could I ask you as I’m confused. Does the clinic work at weekends? If I need to have a scan or egg collection/transfer would they be open on Saturday/ Sunday? They told me they do scans during week days, and if my period starts at weekend, I have to call first thing in the morning on Monday. What if I need to have a follow up scan or egg collection?

UnicornPuff · 16/07/2020 07:52

@Sparklingreality and @MissKittie I was told pre EC my husband and myself need to self isolate for 2 weeks. I will be ok with that but my husband needs to get out and run! How strict on self isolation were they?

@80SM on my last cycle I had nothing over the weekend. And when I have called because AF has started on the weekend there is no option to leave a message just a number to call if it is an emergency. However I cant remember who but I am sure someone on this thread has said they had a scan on a saturday.

Sparklingreality · 16/07/2020 08:11

@80SM
I don’t think they do scan on the weekend but I think @MissKittie will have a transfer on Saturday. I was supposed to have mine but needed to wait a few more days. They will know what’s best.

@UnicornPuff
You don’t need to self isolate at all but your husband isn’t allowed to go with you unfortunately. On every appointment you will be on your on. It’s fine on scan days but it’s a bit harder on egg collection I think. I was nervous and it would’ve been much better to have him there.

@MissKittie
I just had a phone all from the embryologist and I have 4 fertilised egg out of 6. 😊

UnicornPuff · 16/07/2020 08:58

@Sparklingreality congratulations that a really good way to start the day Grin thats good to know. I was told I had to self isolate for 2 weeks prior to egg collection and then covid swab 72 hours prior. Which made sense to me because that is the current rule for anyone having an anaesthetic in hospital. That will be good not needing to self isolate because it has been stressing me slightly!

Sparklingreality · 16/07/2020 09:01

@UnicornPuff
They never told me that. And how could you self isolate for two weeks when you have to go for a scan every 2-3 days leading up to your egg collection. It doesn’t make sense to me.

80SM · 16/07/2020 09:10

Thanks ladies.

I haven’t been told about self isolation either.

UnicornPuff · 16/07/2020 09:44

I just spoke to them and they have said I should be able to start on my August AF. I asked about self isolation again and she said that they advise people to be sensible but it would be better because of my job if I can (nurse). So because I was told that before I already asked my work and they have said it is fine so I will take it and work from home as much as able. My husband however is more excited about his running!

MissKittie · 16/07/2020 12:37

@Sparklingreality congrats about your 4 fertilised eggs 😃👍

All the best ladies will keep you posted, not looking forward to the 2 week wait.

duckhouse · 24/07/2020 17:16

@MissKittie @Sparklingreality Hello ladies, hope your fresh cycles are going well. May i ask how many visits were required to the clinic for a fresh cycle including consent paperwork ? I am planning to request a fresh cycle (not sure what is the waitlist situation!) and would like to know how many times i need to visit the clinic.
Thanks !

MissKittie · 24/07/2020 19:01

Hi @duckhouse

Not sure how far along you are in the process already. I’m NHS funded so had all my test done before being referred to Nuffield’s. From there it was 1 visit for paperwork & seeing the consultant (husband provided a sample). 2nd visit a scan, 3rd visit blood test. 4th was implications (nurse teachers you how to do your meds). That was between Mid Jan -through to early March then COVID happened. Not sure how long the waiting list is but I would keep calling on the first period to check. Once I did get my period the process was very quick. Phoned in on the Wednesday and the had my scan and meds delivered on Friday (started meds on Friday), scan the following Friday, egg collection Monday and then embryo transfer on the Saturday. Though this part can vary depending on each individual. Now just waiting anxiously do my pregnancy test next week...

Hope you don’t have to wait much longer. Xx

Sparklingreality · 24/07/2020 19:38

@duckhouse

I’d say pretty much the same as @MissKittie. Although we did ours back in December (every test was done by NHS before we’ve been referred to Nuffield) but we went on a holiday in February thinking that when we come back we can start the treatment straight away but obviously COVID happened. If everything goes well you can be ready to start pretty quickly.

duckhouse · 26/07/2020 22:55

Thankyou @MissKittie @Sparklingreality for your response and wishing you good luck for your results 😊

I have been with this clinic for more than an year now with 2 BFN and 1 early miscarriage. Had my fresh cycle early last year pre Covid and ended up having OHSS so all embies had to freeze. Had 3 FET cycle over the course of last 1 year and all failed. Planning to try a fresh cycle but waiting for my consultant review on my last cycle miscarriage.
