5 eggs retrieved - panicking

Hi everyone - this is our 4th donor egg IVF cycle and the clinic called earlier to say that 5 eggs have been retrieved. I'm devastated because I know what a numbers game this is - we've previously had 12+ eggs and watched that number drop drastically over the following days, so I'm terrified that we won't have any embryos to transfer and the latest cycle of drugs and anxiety has all been for nothing, not even a chance of a BFP.

I'm so upset . . . any success stories out there with 5 or fewer eggs? Thank you x

Hi, I don’t have a success story but I had 4 eggs collected, 3 fertilized and 1 hatching blastocyt put back in. So while not a great grade of embryo I did get to a day 5 transfer with only 4 eggs. Maybe with smaller numbers the eggs might be better quality. Try to relax until you hear more and look after yourself.

RedPandaFluff · 05/04/2019 13:59

Thank you @AnnaSteen - that's exactly the kind of thing I need to hear right now 😄

Yes.

2 eggs. 1 embryo. 1 bfp. 1 now 4 year old.....

Numbers are less important than egg quality. I didn’t believe it, but it’s true.

Good luck.

Inthehatbox · 05/04/2019 17:10

Similar to above, Sister had two eggs, one embryo, now one 20 year old 😊.

You only need one. I know it’s a horrible time, but breathe and occupy yourself for the next few days. Let us know how it goes.

Lalaland44 · 05/04/2019 17:21

Hi
I had 3 eggs the first round 2 put back. 1 BFP 👍🏻😊. He’s now 11!
2nd round 5 eggs 1 put back. 1BFP but msc 6 weeks 😭.
3rd round. 3 eggs. 1 put back. 1 BFP. He’s now 8 years old 🥰.

DameSylvieKrin · 05/04/2019 17:23

I had 4 eggs, 3 embryos, one 5 d transfer, now one six month old.

RedPandaFluff · 05/04/2019 17:28

YES YES YES! This makes me so happy. Thank you all!

I'm going to re-read these every time my spirits plummet (which happens roughly every twenty minutes) and just keep mentally thanking my lovely donor who no doubt hasn't had the most comfortable of days.

I don't know whether it's the drugs or whether (as far as this process is concerned) I'm just a massive ball of negativity. This bloody rollercoaster 😆

4 eggs 2 fertilized. they didn't develop so day 2 transfer recommended...I waited till day 3 under advice from a fertility expert friend abroad.
1 took and 1 didn't...I 've 9 year old identical twins...it can happen

Bonkersblond · 05/04/2019 17:35

2 eggs = 2 embryos = 1 now 14 year old, good luck, quality over quantity.

shiveringtimber · 05/04/2019 17:38

YY to positive thoughts! Good luck!🍀

AnnaSteen · 05/04/2019 17:49

Can I ask was your one put in top quality? I seem to be bad quality plus low number!

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 05/04/2019 18:50

6 eggs collected, 4 fertilised, 2 made it to day 5 blasts, 1 in the freezer and 1 3 week old DD currently using my nipple as a dummy Grin. Good luck it's a cliche because it's true but it does only take one.

FingersXssd83 · 05/04/2019 19:42

1st cycle - 10 eggs, 5 mature, 3 fertilised, 3 blasts, 1 transferred

2nd cycle - 6 eggs, 4 mature, 3 fertilised, 2 blasts, 2 transferred

Sadly no frosties or BFPs (yet) but I hope this shows that you can have blast transfers after low numbers xx

Starship12 · 05/04/2019 21:33

Hello.
4 eggs, only 1 blast, 1 5 month old.
Hated the ‘it only takes one’ line but I guess it is true! Plus I was getting on a bit (37 at time).
Wishing u loads of luck x

RedPandaFluff · 05/04/2019 22:17

Thank you all. I keep re-reading these numbers as it's reassuring.

@AnnaSteen when did you have your transfer and when do you think you'll test?

AnnaSteen · 05/04/2019 22:27

@redpanda I had it on Wednesday and am booked into the clinic for April 15th! Did you hear from the clinic this afternoon on how they are doing?

windy2909 · 06/04/2019 07:36

I had 6 eggs collected. 3 fertilised and 2 of those made it to blast. Both frozen due to OHSS and one transferred resulted in current pregnancy. I’m 26 weeks with another blast on ice.

I hope you get good news and that other people’s experiences are helping to keep you feeling positive. Best of luck x

RedPandaFluff · 06/04/2019 10:43

Oooooo we got an update from the clinic this morning, and it has made me feel much better. Out of the five eggs, four were mature and fertilised normally, so my worst case scenario hasn't come true yet! So we just need at least one to continue developing until Monday.

Hang in there, little guys 😄

PineapplePatty · 06/04/2019 11:00

Good luck OP, SIL was in your position and a year or so later and she's got the most adorable twins.

LividLaughLove · 06/04/2019 18:06

My last round I had only two collected.

Both somehow got to blast and freeze, against the odds.

BambooBoobam · 06/04/2019 18:13

Definitely quality over quantity.

I had 6 eggs, 4 fertilised and 2 were put back. Now have 10 year old twins.

Electromagnetic · 06/04/2019 18:31

Another story to say it's quality not quantity:

1st cycle
1 egg, fertilised but didn't progress. Warned to consider donor eggs. We didn't.

2nd cycle
6 eggs
5 fertilised
4 reached 6 days
3 in the freezer and 1 19 month old.

Hold on xx

AliceAbsolum · 06/04/2019 22:06

@Electromagnetic Can I ask, were you on the highest dose of stims the first time around?

Teddybear45 · 06/04/2019 23:40

Its not about egg numbers but quality. Every cycle I produced 10+ eggs but then only ended up with 3-4 transferrable embryos. My consultant said she’d prefer more mature eggs from me even if I produced less over all!
