Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Smile

And @doomkittycleo sounds a sensible plan to contact your doctor about upping your dose of you have no joy after the first three months

seven201 · 03/05/2019 17:38

Anyone else felt really tired on clomid? I'm only on the second day of taking it and I woke up so tired!

Pinktruffle · 03/05/2019 17:48

Letrozole makes me really sleepy. I'm on my second month of taking it and last month and this month I've struggled to stay away awake after I've got in from work

seven201 · 03/05/2019 18:23

Oh blimey! Is that all month or just when you're taking the tablets?

seven201 · 03/05/2019 18:24

I have a nearly three year old who sometimes likes to be up all night especially in the fertile window. I'm a snappy cow when I'm tired so this may not be fun!

Pinktruffle · 03/05/2019 18:53

Whilst taking the tablets and for about a week afterwards, I've been less sleepy this time round but still a lot tireder than usual

masie098 · 03/05/2019 19:04

Sometimes 50mg Clomid isn't enough, I was monitored with ultrasound scans on certain days, we also paid for some extra ones at a private ultrasound clinic. On my first cycle I didn't produce any mature follicles. The Dr then increased my dose to 100mg on my next cycle, and that time I produced several mature follicles. Thanks to having the ultrasound scans to monitor progress, I was able to see exactly which follicle was the biggest and timing wise they could pin point when it would be released e.g in 24 or 48 hours and we could time dtd accordingly! I conceived on my 5th cycle of 100mg of Clomid, this was after 18 months of irregular cycles after I came off the BCP. I was having bleeds, but tests then revealed it was just a hormonal thing and not a real period, I wasn't actually ovulating and my ovaries were full of immature cysts. Clomid made me ovulate and then at last conceive on my 5th cycle, thanks to Clomid I have a lovely 7 year old Smile I definitely think the regular ultrasounds were a big help as we could see exactly what was happening on the inside and timing wise were able to pinpoint the best window of opportunity.

seven201 · 04/05/2019 07:53

Thanks @Pinktruffle . I'm glad you're having an easier time tiredness wise on the cycle.

@masie098 that's lovely that it worked for you.

The doctor I saw was a private doctor but he didn't mention scans or blood tests. I think I'm going to see me gp if they have appointments which they never do to try and get a 21 day blood test. It's quite surprising how different areas have such different policies on monitoring. My doctor said 'it won't do any harm' trying clomid until my laparoscopy to try and unblock my tube. I did have an early miscarriage 14 months ago so I do ovulate at least sometimes.

Pinktruffle · 04/05/2019 21:41

I'm on CD14. DH and I did the BD today and I enjoyed it for the first time in a while, it didnt feel like a chore.

I keep doing OPKs, I've only get the cheapie ones but they were negative all of last month and have been negative again so far this month. They have been positive when I used them prior to the Letrozole but I'm getting a bit worried that I'm not ovulating. Do you they OPK's are just crap or should I be worried?

doomkittycleo · 04/05/2019 21:54

@Pinktruffle it may be that you’re not ovulating atm, but you could just miss your surge. I was finding the one step opk’s hard to read as the dye was very faint.

I bought some wondfo brand ones instead and they are thicker and darker so easier to see progression (take a look at my chart from this month on the previous page).

I’m finding this 2ww dragging soooo much. I’m only on 4dpo and it feels like an eternity already 😞.

Pinktruffle · 04/05/2019 22:22

The 2ww always drags, it's always slow and horrible and I find myself second guessing every little symptom and whether it's a period or a pregnancy symptom. It drives me crazy! You're almost half way there @doomkittycleo, you can do it.

I had a lot of ovulation type pains last month so I do think that I ovulated and as far as I'm aware, I was ovulating before I went on the medication -this was just to speed my cycle up as it was long. I've had twinges today so keep my fingers crossed. It's hard without any monitoring. I have an appointment with my specialist at the end of May so may bring it up if he let's me speak. I think I will take a list of questions and try and ask them.

Bear88 · 05/05/2019 09:31

Hey guys,
Just read and caught up with everything. How are you all?
I'm guessing clomid makes my mind swings and life slightly crazy as I feel like I've been an emotional wreck and rather than come on here I hid myself away.
@doomkittycleo I'm just about nearly done with the 2ww. Due on Tuesday - stupidly tested this morning as been feeling light headed and nausea and having constant hit flushes - sad to say it was negative Confused and what a surprise since then I am having AF pains. Knew I shouldn't of used a test!
I was only given 3 months worth of 100mg clomid but had level 35 progesterone on this months 21day bloods. I'm hoping if next month doesn't work either that she will maybe give me another 3 months as clearly it's actually working and I'm ovulating! Such an emotional rollercoaster and I'm sorry I hid away for so long.

seven201 · 05/05/2019 17:44

@Pinktruffle could you see your gp and ask if they'll do a 21 day blood test? That's what I'm going to do as I'm also unmonitored and I just want to know how it's going. I do think some batches of opk cheapie tests are better than others. Some are feint, some darker. Keep having sex. What about temp charting to track ovulation? I invested in an Ava bracelet and am hoping that will take some stress away. One cycle me and dh had sex I think nearly 30 times as my cycle ended up being 63 days long! God it was shit. I know it shouldn't be shit but unless you have a really high sex drive it's just such a chore and actually quite time consuming if you insist on lying down for 30 mins after like me.

Pinktruffle · 05/05/2019 18:20

Haha I do that too @seven201! I know they say it makes no difference but surely it helps to play along with gravity.

That's an idea actually, I have a GP appointment on Tuesday regarding my PTSD, i may ask her then. She struggled to conceive too and is generally quite empathetic so hopefully she will agree.

Marmite83 · 05/05/2019 19:00

I think we probably all do that Grin and I think we all get fed up of sex. I got a static smiley today. We dtd last night and will again today and tomorrow and then it's the dreaded 2ww. At least I have ovulated without Clomid this month Smile

@Bear88 you don't need to apologise, we all deal with things in our own way. Hopefully you just tested too early.

doomkittycleo · 05/05/2019 20:25

@Bear88 I’m sorry it feels as though af is on the way and you got a bfn. Stay positive, you may get a late surprise.

@seven201 30 times in one cycle 😮. I thought we’d done well doing it 5 times in 7 days this cycle 🙈. BDing is definitely a chore for most of us I think.

I’m feeling very pessimistic again now. Can’t help but feel like the 50mg just isn’t gonna do the trick. I know I have no way of knowing as I’m only 5dpo, but just got a feeling.

Bear88 · 05/05/2019 20:25

@Marmite83 I was hoping it was too early but low and behold AF reared her ugly head few hours ago. Just spotting at the moment but at least I can crack on with the 3rd cycle and hope its 3rd time lucky for us!

How have you been? Happy you ovulated on your own this month! Step in the right direction 😊

Bear88 · 05/05/2019 20:27

@doomkittycleo AF arrived few hours ago 😥 it's just so emotionally exhausting. I thought it was bad enough before we knew I didn't ovulate but now I know I have ... twice.. and it's not happened makes me feel more under pressure. Stupid hormones. Had a good old cry earlier and a nice mum conversation. Feeling OK just mentally battered 🙈

@Bear88 so sorry to hear you're out for this cycle. It's just such a massive disappointment isn't it. Third time lucky 🤞. What do you do when your period arrives to drown your sorrows? I stuff myself with chocolate and wine and am best avoided for a few days!

doomkittycleo · 05/05/2019 20:38

@Bear88 it’s soul destroying isn't it.

One think I find interesting is looking at Folliculogenesis diagrams; if you look at the attached picture you can see that it takes 3 cycles for your eggs to go from the resting phase to the recruitable phase.

When I first read this I did wonder if this had anything to do with why it took 3 cycles to get pregnant with clomid when I had DD.

Perhaps if your eggs aren’t maturing at all, it takes longer for the clomid to do it’s job than if they are starting to mature a bit on their own.

I have no evidence if this is true, but it’s just a theory I have come up with.

Hello all,
This journey we're all on is very frustrating! I'm grateful to already be a mummy to a 5 year old but been TTC for 3 years. On my first cycle of chlomid, I conceived but devastatingly miscarried at 8 weeks. Since then, i've taken 8 more cycles of chlomid, the last 3 alongside letrozole (does a similar job). I worry because I read that 6 cycles is max and I've been prescribed 4 more (chlomid only) I stopped ovulating altogether with letrozole, making my cycles 40-50 days long. IVF is not available for me, so i guess a prolonged amount of time on chlomid is my only chance! . My cycles were regular on chlomid and looking forward to taking a double dose (100mg) chlomid only this time. However I'm on day 41 and no signs of new cycle! It's frustrating and feels like a waste of time! Even more frustrating is that I had a positive ovulation test on day 17 (for a change). 3 negative pregnancy tests on days 27, 32 and 38 but each time hopeful that the last one was wrong! Meanwhile, I'm taking pregnacare, vitamin D (prescribed), Inofolic (recommended by consultant) and DHEA (again recommended)! I'm fed up of taking tablets, counting days, timing sex and waiting! FRUSTRATED! Sorry for the terribly long post.

Marmite83 · 06/05/2019 18:31

Hi @Papercottage, sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I had one before we finally conceived my dd and it was devastating. I feel incredibly blessed to have my dd but I think it just makes me want number two even more because I'm desperate for her to have a sibling. How are you getting on with Inofolic? I've been taking it for almost 3 months and so far I'm not sure I've seen much difference, except I have been a little less hungry which has helped me to lose a little weight along with some changes in diet to try to minimise effects of PCOS. I hope AF shows up soon for you so you can start your 100mg Clomid cycle

Papercottage · 06/05/2019 18:52

Hi @marmite83,
The inofolic hasn't made much difference to me either. Not that I have noticed. However the DHEA, only taken more recently has caused constipation. High fibre diet for me. I'm keeping up with them because my consultant believes in them! The reports online are positive, have a look. I'm hoping with my next cycle that ovulation occurs with healthier eggs! Good luck with your inofolic, i read that it takes 3 months before it's fully in your system to have a good enough impact. Has anyone else been taking supplements recommended by a consultant?

Sarlou87 · 06/05/2019 21:44

Ladies I have been taking clomid for 5 months my period has been 29days without fail. However this month on my 6th cycle of clomid my period hasn’t arrived it is now 6 days late. I have done a number of pregnancy tests and they are all negative very confused! Have any of you lady’s experienced this? Could I be pregnant what is going on help!
Thanks ladies

Pinktruffle · 06/05/2019 22:35

@marmite83 @papercottage I've been taking Infolic for nearly a year now and my acne disappeared whilst using it, my periods regulated to a 35 day cycle and I credit my pregnancy to it. I wasnt taking it in the run up to my miscarriage (long story) but I do sometimes think that had I been taking it, maybe my miscarriage could have been prevented.
