New year, new 'starting the journey' thread

I know there are a lot of threads about people starting out, but they were all started a while ago and everyone seems a lot further ahead these days.

So.... newbies unite?

DH and I have been ttc for 2yrs. Saw our gp who ordered blood tests and sperm tests. He gave us a boat load of info..... jokes, he was pants. Told me I was 'fine' and husband was 'not fine', only detail was that DH has 4mil out of a necessary 16mil sperm, mentioned ivf and referred us to a specialist. That's all the info we got. Today I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. It was not the most fun 20 mins of my life but it was fine, now I'm trying to play Sherlock and figure out what the random numbers the radiologist was shouting about my ovaries meant. How about you?

Because I'm early stages, I avoided forums/Google etc because I'm prone to anxiety and didn't want to panic unnecessarily. Therefore apologies but I'm still trying to figure out all the abbreviations and lingo! Also sorry, I'm naturally sarcastic and a bit sweary, but that doesn't mean I'm insensitive - it would be great to share stories and support each other here Smile

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF im a bit of a mixed bag at work mainly office stuff but known to my luck we ll b soo busy when i get my ivf im thinkin about askin them for some unpaid leave.. i dunno how itl all pan out just need to play at by ear just now i think. Do u have a long weekend off to catch up on some sleep? X hope everyones enjoying the gd weather and time off work💖

@2fingers22018 I’d say two days and you should be fine I can pretty much say I feel great now still bloated or maybe I’ve just gained some weight from it all but back to normal like nothings happened!!
Yes I have a nice long weekend away so am enjoying the sun and have been on a massive walk so feeling in need of a snooze!
Had day 3 update this am have two grade 1’s to freeze and another 3 others they are leaving till day 5 which are grade ones aswell but have compacted early when I asked if this was good they said it normally happens day 4 so they are not sure might be might not! I did get a bit disappointed with only 2 to freeze today but hopefully the others might make it! Think I have two others at grade 4 but they aren’t great and one is fragmented so th g that ones a goner!

Hope your all having a Feb weekend in the sun!

I'm not very knowledgable on ivf but do you know why they are freezing them rather than transferring straight away? Or does it not work like that? Sorry total novice here!

@2fingers22018 doing ok thanks x feeling a little upset with being out at a nice park and seeing all the little babies and kids running round but also feeling hopeful it'll be us one day. How are you? xx

Hi @squirrelnutkins I couldn’t have a fresh transfer due to my hormone levels going crazy at the end which meant I had a really high risk of developing secondary OHSS so I didn’t have a choice! Otherwise I would of been having a day 5 transfer on Monday so just have to wait and see if any of those make it to freezing! How are you feeling now? Xx

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF oh i didnt realise you had to freeze if your hormones went a bit crazy glad to hear your feeling gd enjoy ur weekend away and fx for gd news with your other frosties x(hope u dnt mind the nickname got to laugh or we d scream suppose)@squirrelnutkins1 thats tough theres kids everywhere atm! Hope everyone has enjoyed their Easter Sunday and the weather!!
I am starting to feel s bit anxious about tomorrow’s call to see if any made it to day 5! I know we have two Frosties but I cant help thinking if we only have two that’s a big drop from 9 that originally fertilised and that maybe my eggs are not up to it! I am going to be 35 later on this year!

Hi @veeboo, I will get a call today hopefully at some point soon! I have a call on wed with my consultant to talk about a fet so will ask questions dependent on what the embryologist tells me today! Was just feeling a bit anxious about the waiting as it really does feel out of my control now! To top it off I think af is coming really early which will mean I will have to wait till my next one to start a fet think I’m just being a bit emotional about it all as I’m just waiting and will look like I’ll have to delay it further if af comes now!! I’m sure my consultant will say it’s better to have less and better quality and I’m sure it is but like everyone says it’s a numbers game xx

If you want to chat we are here for you! It must be so nerve wracking but you can't change it now. Can you do something to distract you until the call?

I got a positive opk yesterday so should ovulate today. DP seems to be finding things slightly easier with the new tablets he was given (TMI sorry!). So I'll be entering the TWW between now and the next bank holiday.

@verboo thanks we are busy packing up to head home from a weekend away just worried that I won’t have reception when we get on the country roads!! It’s one thing after another lol! Glad your DH is finding things easier and hopefully it means you aren’t feeling as stressed aswell? Which can only be good!
@kelly199 glad you’ve had a good weekend yes we have had a lovely time thank you! I don’t think af is gong to hold off am feeling very crampy but on a plus I am hoping it will get rid of my sore boobs as they have never been so sore over the last few days! I guess my body will have more time to recover and now I’ve had a few naughty treats I can get back to preparing my body for the fet! Xx

Thanks for all the support I know I can’t change things but DH never shows he worries as much as I do and I don’t like to keep on at him! Xx

Ok guys just had my call and am really pleased to say I have 3 blastocyst to freeze all of really good quality so that’s 5 in total am really happy with that! The other 4 they said aren’t suitable but will leave them for 1 more day just in case anything changes and will call to confirm final number tomorrow! Xx

Hi everyone, sorry I've been a bit quiet. Jot had a great weekend, think the miscarriage has hit dh quite hard 😢 I'm feeling better in myself but he's kind of shut down. According to my usual cycles my af is due next Monday but no idea if things will be settled straight away.
