New year, new 'starting the journey' thread

I know there are a lot of threads about people starting out, but they were all started a while ago and everyone seems a lot further ahead these days.

So.... newbies unite?

DH and I have been ttc for 2yrs. Saw our gp who ordered blood tests and sperm tests. He gave us a boat load of info..... jokes, he was pants. Told me I was 'fine' and husband was 'not fine', only detail was that DH has 4mil out of a necessary 16mil sperm, mentioned ivf and referred us to a specialist. That's all the info we got. Today I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. It was not the most fun 20 mins of my life but it was fine, now I'm trying to play Sherlock and figure out what the random numbers the radiologist was shouting about my ovaries meant. How about you?

Because I'm early stages, I avoided forums/Google etc because I'm prone to anxiety and didn't want to panic unnecessarily. Therefore apologies but I'm still trying to figure out all the abbreviations and lingo! Also sorry, I'm naturally sarcastic and a bit sweary, but that doesn't mean I'm insensitive - it would be great to share stories and support each other here

@daisymay wow that’s a good number why aren’t you getting any updates before your transfer? I thought they call on a daily basis?

@kelly199 o would say that looks positive and yes you will be fine sperm can live up to 5 days

I’m same same but seem to be expanding am struggling with find clothes that fit! Roll on tomorrow for my next scan!

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF my clinic don't update daily, I'm not bothered though, it won't change what we get on Monday and stops me worrying when the numbers start going down

So sorry about this morning. Hard enough as it is for you, without having to repeat yourself all the time! Glad the nurse was understanding.
Don't be sorry for the essay! Somewhere you can speak your mind. Of course it's validated. The nurse was so right about how you must feel. Sending lots and lots of hugs ❤️❤️

Had my second follicle scan - said again everything looks normal again she couldn’t find the ‘huge’ follicle that was there last time and she could see some free fluid which she said does happen to some women after ovulation (I had positive opks all day yesterday!) if so it would be cycle day 12 I ovulated and the other follicles she said were small so I’m going back Saturday and she will email me a report afterwards. I have been getting ovulation pain and egwcm so I’m hoping I have ovulated early opposed to not ovulating at all!! So I don’t really know what to make of it all but she didn’t gasp or say anything worrying at least?!

Does she mean the follicle that was there isn't now because if you've ovulated, it's been released?? Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼 xx

I think so... she doesn’t really say much while doing it - she seems to think I’ve ovulated early. The screen really means nothing to me - just like a fuzzy tv! I really hope o have ovulated this month. Fingers crossed for us all

I'm on CD5 now so going to start ovulation testing next week. DP had his appointment at the ED clinic yesterday. He said it was helpful and she gave some advice he wants to talk about so we are going out on Saturday so we are out of the house.

@kelly199 I think it’s just what happens and obviously as the follicles grow I guess there less space and I think from reading you retain a lot of water!! Feeling very uncomfortable this afternoon am loving on loungewear when I’m at home but wok trousers are this issue can’t get imagine what another 5or so days is going to feel like!!

@kelly199 sorry just re read my message and realised I’ve obviously not checked what I’ve typed with all those errors!! I’m hoping so!! I wish I could I guess least it’s the weekend nearly and I can just live in it and sleep am feeling very tired aswell! My poor belly is starting to feel bruised aswell! So trying to find a spot to stab is getting harder lol! Xx

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF I'm lucky I booked time off work for this. I can't wear anything but pj bottoms! I have IBS so it's just flared that up. I'm gonna ask tomorrow about any laxatives I can take. The bloating is awful isn't it?

@kelly199 well wed she said ec would possibly be next wed so I assume I’ll have to take them till Monday and then I’ll do the trigger at some point on Monday not sure if that’s accurate so don’t take my word for it! So if that’s the case yes unless they’ve grown loads since wed and it changes to Monday so hopefully will find out tomorrow!! Yes I am looking forward to the injections being over soglad next week is a short week!

@daisymay how are you feeling today after ec? Like normal or sore? Hope you don’t mind me asking? The bloating is awful and with trying to drink all the water they tell you too it’s like a double whammy!

Thanks for the support everyone it’s nice to be able to say how I really feel I haven’t talked to anyone in rl since actually starting a couple know we are going to do it but didn’t know when! So it just me and DH and well I think it hard for him to actually know how I’m feeling about the massive tummy and the 2injections a day and I have been a bit irritable today which he said he hasn’t notice but I know he has 😂😂

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF I don't mind you asking at all, I'm happy to answer anything I can. I'm not sore at all, just bloating. It just feels like I need the toilet all the time, very annoying! I'm hoping it settles down soon but with starting the progesterone tablets tomorrow it'll probably get worse. I'll ask tomorrow what to take for bloating (and constipation) and report back for you. Apparently constipation after EC is very common!

@kelly199 thanks it went ok I have 8follicles that are now between 11 and 15 so they are not interested in the others now so feel abit sad that I’m down to so little from having so many to start with! Might have to go for a scan over the weekend depends on what my blood results say later on so am waiting on a call I’m hoping it is over the weekend as other wise it means another scan on Monday and I’ve been late to work after every appointment!! Ec still looks like it will be wed so nearly there!! Xx

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF so I spoke to my doctor about the bloating and he explained it to me, the trigger injection causing the follicles to release things (I won't be very good at describing he used a lot of fancy words) basically when we ovulate gases get released into our body and normally that's just one so it's fine. When there's a lot it's a lot of gases and that's what caused the swelling, until the hcg has gone from the body (about seven days) the bloating will continue. I look about five months pregnant!! He said he's not concerned though. He prescribed me some lactulose that should start working within two days and codeine for the pain. So perhaps try get some lactulose ready for EC as I can imagine you're going to have the same issue. Also because of the amount of eggs collected I had blood tests done for my liver and kidney functions (again because of the stuff the follicles release. Currently he's not worried, I'm having these repeated on Monday. He mentioned a freeze all but I think as long as I don't get worse I'm still on track. He's also given my blood thinners, as once again those pesky follicles release stuff that can cause blood clots in my legs. They're injections, just when I thought I had finished with needles.
