New year, new 'starting the journey' thread

I know there are a lot of threads about people starting out, but they were all started a while ago and everyone seems a lot further ahead these days.

So.... newbies unite?

DH and I have been ttc for 2yrs. Saw our gp who ordered blood tests and sperm tests. He gave us a boat load of info..... jokes, he was pants. Told me I was 'fine' and husband was 'not fine', only detail was that DH has 4mil out of a necessary 16mil sperm, mentioned ivf and referred us to a specialist. That's all the info we got. Today I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. It was not the most fun 20 mins of my life but it was fine, now I'm trying to play Sherlock and figure out what the random numbers the radiologist was shouting about my ovaries meant. How about you?

Because I'm early stages, I avoided forums/Google etc because I'm prone to anxiety and didn't want to panic unnecessarily. Therefore apologies but I'm still trying to figure out all the abbreviations and lingo! Also sorry, I'm naturally sarcastic and a bit sweary, but that doesn't mean I'm insensitive - it would be great to share stories and support each other here Smile

@2fingers22018 I can’t say any I’m anymore stressed then normal! Bit onwards and upwards I’ll be ringing tomorrow for my appointment and will begin my injections on Friday! Which I guess is a good day to start as will have the weekend to see if I get any side effects.
I know how you feel I get super bloated and all I want is carbs to eat have had a healthy pasta dish tonight so have had my fill of carbs for now! Blush

@kelly199 it’s more then spotting but not full flow (sorry tmi) but full on cramps now so I am expecting it tomorrow am least then I can crack on! Xx

Hi all sorry I've been a bit quiet. Been trying to have a break from social media. Just catching up on the thread. How are you doing @squirrelnutkins1?

I'm also waiting for AF to arrive after we completely failed to dtd at the right time this cycle. It's also been an irregular cycle for me so not sure when it will turn up. We've set ourselves 6 more cycles before we go back for a round of IUI.

@kelly199 No I asked about clomid and she said I wouldn't be prescribed it as it appears I am ovulating. She couldn't really say what's causing slightly irregular cycles either other than stress so just trying to be healthier and DP trying hard too. What's next for you now?

Morning all,

@kelly199 yes af has now arrived so have rang the clinic and arranged my first scan and bloods they want to see me day 5 I guess due to the amount of follicles I have! So I’m there Monday morning! Feeling slightly excited and nervous! Start injections tomorrow!

@veeboo do you have any conditions like pcos or anything that could cause the irregular cycles?
My tests ended up coming back that I do ovulate, but later than they thought due to my pcos changing my cycle days every month, but my consultant said it's up to me if I wanted to continue taking the clomid before trying ivf. I have read that it could help regulate cycles and that people with pcos are given it anyway. Also, having the scans with the monitoring will help see what's going on during my cycle so I said I'm definitely trying that first before ivf. Worth a try!
I have taken my first cycle of clomid, last tab on Tuesday, so just timing sex now and looking out for my positive opk whenever it may be! I know too early yet, but still testing just in case! Don't want to miss it. Prob be next week my fertile window.
Hope it all goes well for you then and you get your positive before the iui.
Sorry for the essay lol. Keep us updated on how you're getting on.
What cd are you now??

Thanks @kelly199 I glad I can just concentrate on the next steps now! Yes they showed me and I have some little instruction leaflets too as I think one of the injections I have to mix myself but I think that is the 2nd one which won’t stay until they tell me so after my 1st scan potentially so will worry about that one thing week! I can’t believe it’s all so close now!

@kelly199 they said no sign of pcos and endometriosis and I don't have any other symptoms. My cycles aren't wildly irregular. If we end up having IUI they will give me meds then to stimulate ovulation but said there is no need yet. The last 3 were spot on 28 days which was great! I'm cd34 now. Expecting AF on Saturday.
@fiballytakingtheplungewithivf keeping fx for you. Do you work at the moment? Hoes your employer been?

Welcome back @veeboo im being such a horror today think i need locking in a room to protect the rest of civilisation lol i just cant help myself depression and pms are a bad combo. I was the exact same this cycle no hope at all sex at all the wrong times but you still never know 100% eh?@squirrelnutkins1 how are you today hun?@Kelly199 thanks ❤

Hi @veeboo thankyou! Yes I work full time! I have to say though I haven’t been here long (long story) so at present nothing has impacted work I may be slightly late next week so amgoobg to have to come up with an excuse will try get the earlier one for the two scans I need after that just hoping that my boss won’t be too annoyed when I need last min holidays for ec and et!! Xx

That's good @finallytakingtheplunge. I was a bit shocked when the nurse said that when treatment starts I might need a lot of scans in the first fortnight. My boss knows but not sure how I'd hide that from everyone else!

@veeboo I guess it depends on what protocol your on my clinic only does short so I’ll have three scans and they do from 7.30-11 as the bloods you have done at the same time are collected after that so results are back same day
