January/ February IVF/ICSI

Starting a new thread for all of us going through IVF/ICSI in January/February!

First round of ICSI for us. I’m on the last week of my birth control pill before starting Gonal F injections on the 18th Jan, with the hope of egg collection on the 30th and transfer on the 4th Feb! I’m egg sharing so have been on the pill a while to sync my cycle with the woman recovering half of my eggs Smile.

Is anyone else at a simile stage?

Welcome @Rememberallball how amazing that you're going your cycle somewhere warm! Sounds like you're getting some positive symptoms. Good luck!

It was a very emotional day yesterday as a few hours after transfer my father in law died. I'll be looking after DH and giving him all the love and support I can in our TWW @Nixwix. Can't believe our embabies were transferred on the same day we have lost such an important person in our lives. It makes me wonder about reincarnation. I want our second cycle to work so much more now to give my DH and in-laws something to look forward to.

Wishing everyone a positive Sunday xxx

Nixwix · 20/01/2019 09:40

@Rememberallball good luck! Meanwhile enjoy the sun and some nice (healthy) mocktails

@FingersXssd83 I am so sorry for your loss! I am a believer of 'whatever happens, there's a good reason for it', so you may be right! Have faith and be strong. The best thing you can do for your loved ones is taking good care of yourself. Atleast that's how I look at it. You have got this! Smile

Peanut1980 · 20/01/2019 17:15

@nixwix no reason for the miscarriage. Just one of those things. If I have a 3rd miscarriage then they’ll start to investigate further.

Peanut1980 · 20/01/2019 17:17

Oh my goodness @fingersxssd83 I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Lots of love to you and your hubby xxxx

Peanut1980 · 20/01/2019 17:19

@rememberallball good luck to you 🤞😘

Rememberallball · 20/01/2019 18:06

@Peanut1980, thank you so much. Only 2 more days then it’s d-day!!

@FingersXssd83, so sorry to hear about your dfil. Our planned cycle last year was delayed 3 times in the end - from originally May ‘18 to October, then November and we finally arrived in Cyprus last week - because of the death of my mum and sorting out her estate. Take time to look after yourself this week more than any other.

Like NixWix, I’m a believer in that a family often loses a loved one before their number swell once more!! I’m holding on to that for us this year.

Me:38 DH:45
TTC: 3 years
Cycle:1

I have one frozen embryo ready to transfer, waiting on AF due on Sat, so I can start the hormones to get my lining ready. Not sure how well I'll handle the next step.
Good luck all !!

mimi27 · 20/01/2019 22:00

Hello ladies, I'm also doing my ivf Jan/feb. I've started downreg with Norethisterone, starting buserelin next week and on long protocol. Just want to say good luck everyone!

We're doing ICSI, me and DH are debating single or double embryo transfer. I wonder if it increases success rate or not.

Justwaitingforaline · 21/01/2019 11:43

Morning all! I had my first follicle scan this morning - I have 30! 18 on the right, 12 on the left. The nurse said they all look great, just a touch on the small side so she’d going to talk to the consultant and see if my dose of Gonal F needs to be adjusted. Back on Wednesday and Friday for more scans!

Peanut1980 · 21/01/2019 13:52

@justwaitingforaline that great news! I had to increase my gonal after my first baseline scan and it worked wonders x

Peanut1980 · 21/01/2019 16:40

So things are a bit up on the air with me. I think I had my period on Friday but it was so light even an ant could produce more blood (if they had periods). So it doesn’t sound as though we’ll go ahead this cycle. I’m going to speak to the clinic towards the end of the week. They might scan me to check on the lining but I’m not expecting it to go ahead. I’m feeling OK about it. I don’t want to race and use my frozen embryo just for the sake of getting it done. I’d rather wait until my body is ready. They’ve asked me to do another pregnancy test tomorrow which I will do but I’m 99.9% sure I’m not pregnant x

NV42 · 21/01/2019 17:34

Hello all

Thank you so much for your responses on Friday as it helped me with the bubbles. The clinic also got back to me the next day and told me that the manufacturer always puts a bit more drug inside if one needs to clear the bubbles.

I have had 3 self injections to date and having my forth one tonight, followed by my first scan tomorrow. I had to clean the bubbles on all of them as I am using 300 ui pen and my dosage is 300ui. I wanted to avoid reusing the same pen as I am worried in case I do something wrong and later I realised that if they change my dosage, I may still have to use on occasions the same pen.. duh!!!

The first injection went ok and I did not feel any pain. The second one, it hurt a bit when it went in but did not bruise. Touch wood it continues like this.

I had abdominal pain yesterday for 1-2 hours. I was wondering do you experience (d) abdominal pain during the injections and at which point do you call the clinic as it is also a sign of overstimulation?

Also what do they measure /check to determine if you are at risk for overstimulation?

@Peanut1980 I am so sorry to hear that.. Are you 100%? When are you talking to the clinic to confirm if you can go ahead or not? Why would you loose your frozen embryo if you do not go ahead this month.

@FingersXssd83 and @Nixwix you are at the final stage... 🙏 I pray for a successful pregnancy... At my clinic they told me that after the embryo transfer I need to stay for two weeks at home resting if possible. Nixwix you seem to be out and about though. What did your clinic say for the two weeks post the embryo transfer? Thank you both for the tips on food etc during that phase (it is my first IVF).

@FingersXssd83 did you do a 5DT, I assume you pay extra for that? Has anyone else done a 5DT? Did they use tapes at your clinics btw?
Also What is PUPO, OTD? Smile

NV42 · 21/01/2019 17:38

@FingersXssd83 I am so sorry.. I am just catching up on all the messages... I am so terrible sorry for your loss... Indeed I do believe in signs and omens and I do believe it is a sign that you did the transfer the same day.... My thoughts are with you!!!!

Rememberallball · 21/01/2019 17:57

Hi @NV42, I did 5dt both cycles I’ve done. There isn’t any additional cost at my clinic for waiting till d5, it’s based on how well the embryos are (or aren’t) developing and, possibly, if there’s a risk of them not progressing to d5 they might try a d3 transfer - or freeze the embryos.

NV42 · 21/01/2019 18:10

@Rememberallball welcome to thread and thank you for your response..

Just read your first post and story. I am actually 42 (had an abortion when I was 36 which I regret very much now) and my partner has two kids from a previous relationship. Unfortunately he now has antisperm antibodies so although in theory and based on my past I can conceive naturally, we have to go down the route of ICSI as he can not conceive naturally due to the antibodies. Saying this due to my age and if this IVF does not work and we need to keep on trying, one day I may have to look into donor eggs.

As I am greek and you are having your treatment in Cyprus, if you are happy with the clinic and I noted you saying that timings with egg donors are better there do you mind passing on to me the name of the clinic?

I do wish you from the bottoms of my heart this to be a successful pregnancy.... 🙏 🙏

Peanut1980 · 21/01/2019 18:30

@nv42 sounds like you’re making good progress with those injections. Well done. I’m not sure about the over stimulating. I know I felt uncomfortable but not in pain. A girl in our previous group was over stimulated and she was on her hands and knees with the pain but that was after transfer and she was pregnant with twin babies 😁

So I won’t lose my frozen embryo if I don’t do it this month. I’m just worried if I do go ahead with the transfer and my body isn’t ready, that I’ll just be wasting my precious frozen one. Hopefully will be ready next cycle which isn’t too far away. Only four weeks.

NV42 · 21/01/2019 18:35

@Peanut1980 yes makes sense then to wait. I will be following the threads to see how you get on.... Smile Do clinics charge per month?

intrigued2018 · 21/01/2019 20:34

@FingersXssd83 - glad all went well with the transfer! So so sorry to hear about your loss, I hope you and DH are keeping well. Make sure you also look after yourself and rest, you have precious embryos to look after for the next few weeks.

@NV42 - Glad your injections are going well. And you're managing doing them no problem, so proud. I start downreg on Saturday then away for work next week, I'm dreading having to do it myself!

@Justwaitingforaline - congrats on your scan tonight, sounds really positive. Fingers crossed for your next scan.

@Peanut1980 - sorry to hear things may not work out this cycle, I hope the clinic help and you can carry on. Best to make sure your body is properly prepared for this procedures.

@mimi27 and @highheelsandheadheldhigh - welcome to the thread! @mimi27 sounds like you are similar stage to me - I have my endometrial scratch tomorrow! Then buserelin starting on Saturday. Read this morning to take pain relief before tomorrow which has panicked me as due to go back to work straight after! X

Nixwix · 22/01/2019 01:54

@Peanut1980 oh i am sorry you aren't going ahead! But you are right, do what feels right to you and ur body. Are you sure you aren't preggers though. The last time I was pregnant, I still had my periods (it was ectopic) so it's possible so do check. :)

Regarding post embryo transfer - my clinic said to walk and rest too. But no gym or heavy exercise. I feel so bloated after dinner that a 30 min walk helps a lot. I have been eating 60% healthy and 40% a little unhealthy - so that needs to be in check. Cause I have been keeping busy, I have been able to not obsess over the 2ww.

I haven't been feeling any symptoms of pregnancy... not feeling concerned but not too hopeful either. It's been 3dp5dt.

@FingersXssd83 how are you feeling?

To everyone else who started or going through stimulations- good luck! Any body else in the 2ww?

Nixwix · 22/01/2019 02:04

@NV42 sorry I meant to reply to you! Sorry I forgot to tag 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rememberallball · 22/01/2019 05:11

I’m in my wait @NixWix. Blood test at ivf clinic tomorrow which is 7dp5dt and then fly back to uk on Thursday. We decided to stay out here a week longer than last cycle when we flew home on 2dpt. Anything to try and get these precious embryos to stick in there!! The clinic have warned we might not get a positive result at 7dpt but, if we don’t, then we will organise a blood test at home for the 28th which is OTD.

On the subject of post transfer care, my clinic said to do nothing for 24 hours post transfer including reaching above my head or to the floor to pick stuff up. The one that made me laugh was no jumping (not that I’m in the habit of jumping normally!!) but I was told I could walk upstairs after 24 hours - so long as I took it slowly!! Then I could return to my normal activity after 24 hours except I’m not allowed to have a bath (can shower so long as stood up); no swimming or exercise classes and no alcohol or caffeine - the caffeine rule is till OTD; that’s been the hardest one as I’m a bit of a teapot and have even been told only 1 decaf coffee or tea per day which opim having in the morning with breakfast. I usually follow slimming world and have tried to stay mostly on plan while away - but they have the most fabulous buttery bread twists at breakfast so I might be indulging a little every day they’re available!!

FingersXssd83 · 22/01/2019 11:11

Good morning ladies. Hope you're all okay.

Thanks for asking how I'm getting along in the TWW. I'm three days in and I have to be honest, I'm not feeling optimistic as I don't have any symptoms. Feel quite down. With DFIL passing away and being off work we haven't been out much, which has resulted in me Googling everything I can think of, which is sending me a bit crazy! We also got a call from the embryologist yesterday to say our third embryo didn't develop past an early morula so we don't have anything to freeze, not that we expected it.

@NV42 you don't pay for a 5DT at my clinic (Care), OTD is your test day and PUPO stands for 'pregnant until proven otherwise'. When you say tapes do you mean a time lapse? If so, then yes, we paid an extra £700 for the embryoscope so the embryos can develop and be reviewed in situ without being disturbed.

@Rememberallball sorry to hear about the loss of your mum. Seems so cruel on top of battling with infertility.

Wishing everyone a good day x

Ylangho1 · 22/01/2019 11:56

Hello ladies, I'm new here and I'm glad I just found you guys. I just had my first transfer (2x day 3 embryos) on Sunday Jan 20th, now in the TWW. Today I found out our other embryos didn't make it and so we have nothing to freeze, so I'm pretty down about that right now. Just wanted to say hi and hope you're all getting along ok.

Peanut1980 · 22/01/2019 13:04

Don’t feel down about not having symptoms yet. I had no symptoms with my last pregnancy other than the appetite of a horse! Don’t lose faith yet x

Rememberallball · 22/01/2019 14:54

@FingersXssd83, I only started getting anything which ‘could’ be symptoms on day 3pt and that was o lay some cramping. Don’t count yourself out yet. Good luck for the next few days xx
