IVF July/August 2018

Sunny1984 · 14/07/2018 21:52

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@aandre26 I asked about using the additional rounds for a second child and the MHs does not fund that. Nor should it I think! But I was wondering if you got a positive test and then miscarried very early, say 5/6 weeks... if you can use your remaining cycles, or they say “it’s not our fault you miscarried”. Sadly I think a positive test means they succeeded and you forfeit you additional rounds.

So....todays the first day since stims ive felt a little....bleurgh. I dont know why. Ive tried to maintain strong and positive throughout but its dawned on me that there might be a big fat negative coming my way. And i try to prepare both scenarios but.....
Is this feeling normal? I cant tell if im hormonal. If im just being sensitive. If its the emotional rollercoaster we embark on during ivf/treatment. Anyone else felt this low?

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 23/08/2018 19:58

@aandre26 Feeling you sister, infertility is such an emotional rollercoaster. I think we all try to stay as positive as possible because we know that's the best state of mind to be in, but then at the drop of a hat all the emotions can hit you at once and it feels like it takes over.

I have loved being on this chat as it's been so amazing to talk freely about exactly how you feel with people who completely understand what you have been and are going through.

Deep breath lovely, you have come so far! Xxx

aandre26 · 23/08/2018 20:26

@PostiveThinkingRainbow thank you lovely!!! I agree this chat group is a great support network. I mean who would ever have thought wed openly discuss putting pessaries up our bottoms without batting an eye lid!!!
We will all get there and i guess its gets to us all one way or another!!!
Thanks for the support.
Xxx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 23/08/2018 21:19

@aandre26 I know we have learnt a lot about pessaries😂🤣

I think the hardest thing about all this is that becoming a mum is something you dream about and it should be the most natural thing in the world but it has proved so far not to be so straight forward for us.
It happens so easily for people everyday, why not us! Oh the bloody frustration!
But I am use when our day comes... which it will we will embrace every moment.

Keeping everything crossed for all of us xxxx

Elaydee · 23/08/2018 22:21

@aandre26 yes once the process and steps are over you are just left with your mind and ‘what if’s’ I wouldn’t say I felt low, but concerned and then that cast a cloud over me. Like a heavy feeling. Also just to add, I think I’m worse now than the 2WW because I’ve had so much loss that I’m looking for signs it’s failing. So that feeling doesn’t seem to stop just yet...

At least we can all laugh about the bum bullets together and other crazy stuff along the way xx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 24/08/2018 09:47

So I have had my trial transfer done this morning and it all went well, wahoo so I can finally start the whole process.

My doctor agreed I do not need to take any more norethisterone so I should come on my period this Sunday, eeeeekkk I have never been so excited for my period to arrive!!!

@aandre26 hope your having a better day today

xxxx

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 10:23

@positivethinkingrainbow Yes! Congratulations! Just think, in only a month you'll be doing a test :)

aandre26 · 24/08/2018 10:25

Bring on your period and roll on Sunday!!! Thats great news. I cant wait for your journey to start and hear all about it @PostiveThinkingRainbow
I feel a bit better today. Trying to keep busy and not think about it. Thank you for checking in x x x

@Elaydee i can only imagine what goes through your mind. And tbh i can sit here and say try to think positive but its so so difficult and i would be exactly like you.
Im the opposite we have never had a positive result, in my head i think ive prepped for the worst result hence why i felt a bit rubbish yesterday!!
Is your test day 28th? Xxx

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 11:01

@aandre26 In a normal cycle its something like 15-20% chance of a BFP and I think it was @positivethinkingrainbow that said that with IVF its 40%. Double your chances pretty much! Hold onto that, it really helped me :)

I've been told three different test dates. Two weeks from EC, 26 August, two weeks from ET. Today i'm 14 dpo (EC) so counting this as my test date really. Called clinic and now my fun begins of blood tests and scans for ectopic.

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 11:11

Erm, so I just had a call and scan booked in for 12 September... thats almost THREE WEEKS away. Both of my ectopics were already done and dusted a week and a half before then!

I dont want to waste NHS time and resources, but should I self-refer to early pregnancy at my hospital, or just wait it out?

aandre26 · 24/08/2018 11:16

@Elaydee tough one. I think for your own piece of mind self refer. You want to be sure and safe. You are not wasting nhs resources. You pay enough in taxes etc.
Surely your fertility clinic should have put you as priority - is there no cancellations list they maybe could out you on?
Ps. congratulations!! 😘😘😘

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 24/08/2018 11:20

@aandre26 yes @Elaydee It was me that mentioned the percentages, it is about 40%, so by far the best odds we have ever had!!! Fingers crossed for us all that the wonders of modern medicine does the job :)

@Elaydee Even after explaining to the clinic about your history they will still not scan you before the 12th Sept? Sounds ludicrous to me, its your health we are talking about here, its not like your trying to blag an extra scan out of them! If they will not do earlier scan I would go see your GP and get them to refer you ASAP.

KathyJ78 · 24/08/2018 11:49

Sorry I've been off radar for a while....just getting my head around our positive!!
@Elaydee your having your scan 2 days after me!!! Huge congratulations! Iagree with @positivethinkingrainbow and ask for a earlier scan, if they are anything like my clinic they would definitely do it. Do found out last night that one of my best friends is 8 weeks.....I'm so happy I'll have someone with me on the journey! X

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 12:04

@aandre26 @positivethinkingrainbow thanks for your advice, and you're right, I don't want it for just an extra scan for fun - you can't see anything that early anyway! I called EPU and they booked me in for 7 September. Still two weeks away, but i'll take it. If anything feels off like last time or bleeding, they said to go to A&E. FML, I hate this stage.

aandre26 · 24/08/2018 12:16

@Elaydee its okay we are here for you!!! We will keep you occupied while you wait. And stay positive. You never know this time might be different!!!

@KathyJ78 huge congratulations. Thats great news!!! Xxx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 24/08/2018 12:35

@elaydee pleased to hear that they have brought it slightly forward, such and exciting but nerve wrecking time!!! Do not worry I am sure I will be on hear loads telling you about my scans and injections lol!!
We will keep you sane!!

@KathyJ78 WOW AMAZING NEWS!!! Congratulations I am so hoping this is the lucky thread to be on ;)

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 13:28

@kathyj78 thanks! you seem to be keeping more sane than me :P

Sunny1984 · 24/08/2018 17:04

@aandre26 I completely get how you are feeling I’ve had one of those days today. Really emotional and just thinking the worst 😢
I decided to stay off work which I think is the right thing but has given me extra thinking time!!!

@Elaydee glad you have a scan slightly earlier, will they not do any bloods sooner? About you funding question I think it would a live birth is what counts.

@PostiveThinkingRainbow So pleases the trial transfer went well! When will you start now?

@KathyJ78 That’s amazing about your friend so nice to have someone to share it with! I have a friend trying at the minute and I would love it if we both got our positives this month!!

Sorry ladies, I checked out again. So, I tested the trigger out of my system. Then today I was sick so did an early response test- there are two lines. Is this good news?

Elaydee · 24/08/2018 18:54

@springb0ks ohhh fingers crossed! Did you test the trigger out with FRER too? If yes, then I’d say that’s a good sign!

Sunny1984 · 24/08/2018 18:55

Ooh exciting @Springb0ks! I really hope the luck stays for me on Monday! Did you just know it has worked @Elaydee and @Springb0ks?

aandre26 · 24/08/2018 19:16

@Sunny1984 i completely understand how you are feeling but we are here to support and get you through it.
I think its the come down from the whirl wind of a journey we are on!!! Try not to think the worst - what will be will be!! Stay positive hunny. Are you testing on monday? I know i asked but memory like a fish lately.

@Springb0ks how many days post transfer are you? I think its good news! Its exciting news for you. Whens your official test date?

I think everyone testing early is really trying to sway me to test. If i had one at home i think i secretly would have tested today. 😂
Does anyone test at specific times (eg in the morning when first wake up)

Sunny1984 · 24/08/2018 19:29

Thank you @aandre26. I’ve tried so hard to stay positive and today has just taken me off guard a bit!! I know I can’t change the outcome now, I think it’s the thought of having to start all over again as I was so desperate to have a back up plan in the freezer!!
I’m sitting tight to test until Monday!! I haven’t got one in the house and will buy a test Sunday afternoon so I don’t get tempted! Will you wait now?

OP posts:
aandre26 · 24/08/2018 19:46

@Sunny1984 definitely waiting. Im not mentally prepared yet as stupid as that sounds!!

Just remember theres a group of ladies in here who are all amazing and we are here to support one another!!
