IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@positivethinkingrainbow fingers crossed all goes well for the trial then. I suppose it’s better to do it their way and get it right the first time, rather than being at actual transfer time and they can’t get in!!!! You’d be fuming then! Imagine going through all the meds and struggling right at the end to get it in you! I had to have it removed and a new catheter put in as the softer one couldn’t reach around to my cervix (apparently it’s pointed down, which I assume is why I could never feel it like other women can) and they had to use a larger stiffer one haha! I could actually feel it a little where the first one I couldn’t feel. Felt just like a smear test.

I managed to not test this morning which must be a first for me across all my pregnancies in the first days before reaching about 4 weeks. Caved and tested just earlier and we are going darker. Am aware this means nothing though as my last ectopic progressed perfectly on tests. Progressed perfectly in blood tests too. Blah ectopics.

I have a good feeling about this thread for everyone!!!! X

On a side note, whoever mentioned pressaries round the back was so right! I had to drive a long distance today and didn’t want the mess so tried it and won’t be going back... back to the front I mean hahaha

aandre26 · 21/08/2018 21:53

@Elaydee really???
Im getting yeast infection symptoms and have contemplated the back but i cant get my head around doing it...if that makes sense haha x x

Sunny1984 · 21/08/2018 22:46

Just read back, so pleased for you @Elaydee have you tested again?!
It was me!!! Sooo much better!! No soggy ruined knickers!! I only ever did one the front way and never again!! I’m sure in my logical medical mind PR must have better absorption as well!

I’ve never been one to watch much TV or any box sets but the last week I’ve borrowed my friends Netflix login, it’s amazing!!

How are you feeling @aandre26? I’m trying so hard to wait for OTD but I really want to test sooner!!

@Sunny1984 my husband and i both agreed not to test before. So im holding out for one more week. Dont know if i will cave before but im going strong so far.
Currently holding out okay, very sore boobies and discomfort from the pessaries. But will be worth it right?
How are you doing?

Elaydee · 22/08/2018 08:19

@sunny1984 @aandre26 gosh you’re both so good! Will powers of steel! FX for you both!!!

@sunny1984 hahaha yep thanks for the tip. Honestly feel like it’s a life changer right now 😂

Elaydee · 22/08/2018 09:50

Also while it’s on my mind, Boots has a FRER three pack offer at the moment.

Had to use all my will power not to buy any haha, but might be helpful for future testers!

Sunny1984 · 22/08/2018 10:37

@aandre26 well done, I think I’m
Really going to try and do the same! If I test early I’ll doubt the result anyway so I may as well just be patient!! What date is your OTD?
My boobs have just got sore today 👀 that wasn’t fun to wake up to!!

Thanks @Elaydee I’m going to check if I have any left if not I’ll be off to Boots! How are you feeling any symptoms yet?

OP posts:
aandre26 · 22/08/2018 11:15

@Sunny1984 that was my thoughts too. A false positive will mess my head up. I may over evaluate things too.
My test date is 29th. Which is the husbands birthday - it will go one of two ways that day. Eeek!
Do you test this sunday??

@Elaydee well done for not buying the tests!!! How are you feeling?

Elaydee · 22/08/2018 11:18

@sunny1984 I’ve had sore boobs a bit but I assume it’s just the progesterone. I’ve had light cramping on and off but wouldn’t notice if I wasn’t looking out for it. Actually, the days following transfer I had a sore throat like my glands were swollen before getting sick. It’s my usual sign around implantation time.

A280 · 22/08/2018 12:48

Im officially PUPA! Had my transfer this morning. Fingers crossed!!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 22/08/2018 12:57

Hello Everyone,

@sunny1984 @aandre26 the will power, you go girls!!!

@sunny1984 welcome to the world of Netflix and Chill ;) just what we all need right now!!

@Elaydee I will be making note of the pessaries tip!!! lol

I am just waiting for the call to hear if I can go for this darn trial transfer on Friday.

The Great British Break Off starts soon so I am happy about that!

What is everyone's official two week wait date for testing?
I so wish I was testing with you guys, hopefully it will be me next month xxx

aandre26 · 22/08/2018 13:05

@A280 pupo* 😜
Congratulations!!!!! Whens your test date? Sending baby dust your way. Welcome to the two week wait club!!!!

@PostiveThinkingRainbow i surprise myself with the will power, although i think its more than im scared to see a BFN.
Our test date is 29th Aug. A week tomorrow.
Whats a trial transfer? Sorry to be ignorant.

As for the pessary tip......im sure we will all laugh at my question but......how far up the back?? ☺️ (hides face in embarrassment)

A280 · 22/08/2018 13:14

@aandre26 lol yes pupo! 🤭 test dates 5th September! Thanks!! You are officially half way through the 2ww!

The suppository is harder to insert then pessary but so much less messy after! It says 1/2 to an inch up but dissapears quickly 😝

@positivethinkingrainbow do you need a full bladder for the mock too? That was my toughest bit! Drunk too much but wayy too late so they had to fill me up with saline!

Sunny1984 · 22/08/2018 13:29

@PostiveThinkingRainbow I know!! I think like @aandre26 seeing a negative breaks my heart and I know if I rest early and it’s negative I still have to do it again on OTD so I’m sitting tight!! My OTD is the 27th.

@A280 yay!! Congrats!! Did they just put one back?! Was that a day 2 or 3 transfer? I didn’t drink enough in time as was worried about the car journey but in the end the DR said he had a good view so luckily didn’t need to worry!

@aandre26 I literally just push it in a little and it stays in fine! How are the IM injections going?

I need some advice, I’m tying myself in knots trying to decide what to do, I’m due back to work for a day and then a night shift before OTD. I’ve had quite a lot of cramping and I spoke to the clinic about something else yesterday and mentioned it they just say to take it easy, I really don’t think it makes any difference but I don’t want to have regrets if that makes any sense!! If I go to work it’s 12.5 hours on my feet and can be pretty stressful attending emergency deliveries! I feel like the distraction would be good but doesn’t really fit with taking it easy!! Would you go or not?!! I haven’t taken any sick leave just 2 weeks unpaid so far but I hate the thought of being previous or taking the piss 🤷‍♀️!!

A280 · 22/08/2018 13:43

Thanks @sunny1984!!! Your test dates fast approaching!!! They transferred two back! Praying for twinies!! It was a 3 day transfer.

I did a ‘mock’ bladder fill yesterday and withing 45 mins of drinking 1.5litres of water i was bursting to go- that didnt fill me up today so he used a catheter to fill bladder up with saline and my belly was full of the water! He said either that or wait an hour- I couldn’t face waiting so decided to go for the catheter.

I totally understand your dilemma! Can you see how your body feels over the next two days then decide? Worst comes to worst take sick leave? After everything you have been through it might give you the piece of mind.

I’ve got to make a similar decision- i go back to a standing job of ten hours high stress position three days before test date. Im also on unpaid leave and depending on how I feel next few days may extend the unpaid leave for a week. Only problem is ive got family staying over that week and work will definitely be less stressful then spending the whole week at home with them! (They have no idea about the ivf)

Sunny1984 · 22/08/2018 16:12

Amazing @A280 I would love twins as well!! Did you ask for 2 back or was that their advice? Will you have any to freeze? Sorry for all the questions!! It still fascinates me!
I was thinking I’d decide by tonight then they have time to cover me! If I didn’t have an overactive guilt gland I’d with out a second thought go off!! Monday can’t come quick enough!! Oh god that is a tricky one, luckily I have a small family who all know what’s going on so they have been amazing! Although all except my Mum have the idea that IVF works first time so I’m hoping I don’t disappoint them!!

@Elaydee when is your official test date? Have you still been testing? Is it getting nice and dark?

OP posts:
aandre26 · 22/08/2018 17:17

Okay im starting to worry a little bit.
Did i do wrong going back to work the next day?
I mean i kept it light no heavy lifting etc. But now im worried i should have taken more time off.

Sunny1984 · 22/08/2018 17:30

@aandre26 no not at all! If I had a different job I would have 100% gone back! I just decided night shifts on feet and not sleeping on top of having to push a heavy incubator to delivery and the just the general environment of a busy NICU wasn’t a good idea. If I’m there I feel like I can’t not just get on if that makes any sense! I think most people just carry on working. What do you do?

OP posts:
aandre26 · 22/08/2018 17:46

@Sunny1984 i completely understand your dilemma and that makes sense why not to go back straight away. Not an easy job to be in during this journey either!!!
I work for the family business and manage the restaurant.
Personally i felt fine going back straight away, just bad the element of doubt that i should have been doing a Phoebe from friends with my legs in the air....

Elaydee · 22/08/2018 17:57

@sunny1984 AF was due today, but my proper test date is Friday. Tests are slowly getting there. I’m trying to not obsess now.

My husband and both our mothers thought the same thing about IVF just working every time so had to bring their expectations back down. Still haven’t told either of them! I feel it’s too soon. Doesn’t stop them asking though.

Elaydee · 23/08/2018 08:14

Wondering if NHS patients can answer this question: my funding is one fresh and two frozen cycles. My understanding is that if there is a pregnancy, then they’ve done their job and frozen isn’t funded. But does that apply after the pregnancy is viable only (heartbeat on scan) Or just a positive blood test?

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 23/08/2018 09:22

Finally got confirmation yesterday that I will be having the trial transfer tomorrow morning at 7.30am. I can not tell you how strangely excited I am to just have it done because as long as it all goes well we can FINALLY move on to IVF. Can not wait to start our journey after what feels like forever......!!!

I did ask and they said I do not need a full bladder.

Oh ladies I so hear you with time off work difficulties!!!!

I am in such a dilemma myself as to what to do and say, I have saved a few days holiday to mask some of the appointments, but its just so hard because appointments can change at the drop of hat and suddenly explaining is so hard when you work in a office of only a few people!!!!

I have had a lot of time off in the past few years due to the bloody cervical cancer so I feel guilty asking for more time off, but I am also thinking this is all I really want so should I just put myself first for a change!

I was originally going to book two weeks of as holiday to save me having to make excuses but then I thought what if something awful happens like they cancel the cycle halfway through that would be all my holiday gone and what would I do when we try again in a month or so as our holiday goes Jan-Dec.

Then you have the two week wait when like you ladies say you want to say as calm, relaxed as possible not rushing around at work. Its just all so uncertain its so hard to judge and get the right balance!

Would be so nice not have to worry about it.

A280 · 23/08/2018 12:32

@sunny1984 of my 6 follicles they got 3 to fertilize but only two made it till the transfer. They recommended me with my odds to put both in. So yes- really hoping for twins!! None survived to freeze unfortunately so praying these and my lucky babies!

Did you manage to sort out your work situation? What an amazing job you have as a NICU nurse! Must be so challenging yet so satisfying. You are very brave with everything you are going through

@sunny1984 and @elaydee Yes family think ivf is 100%. Ive been trying to get DH to understand that thats not the case. I couldn’t face telling many people because it would make me so anxious. It was hard enough for me to accept that only 6 follicles grew out of which only two made it. Its so tough when other people have their hopes up. But must be so great in terms on support!

@positivethinkrainbow glad your appointment for the mock has been confirmed. Early morning so atleast you won’t have to fret about it the rest of the day

aandre26 · 23/08/2018 13:33

@Elaydee its a good question. I wondered the same for myself. We were accepted for 2 rounds of Ivf and wondered if the second round was still available if a positive result comes in.
Im going to ask next time im at the clinic. I think that if were entitled we should still get the next round were entitled to regardless of a positive result.
