IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@kathyj it’s been 11 days!!! It’s getting fainter so it’s not a BFP. I’ve read some women have neg by 6 days grrr! It was 6500iu

@aandre26 haha I know! My intentions were for it to be negative on Friday so I could chill and it’s going down so slowly! I’m a serial early tester and didn’t want any doubt of a line this week. Sigh.

A280 · 19/08/2018 11:56

Hi everyone. Just had my egg collection this morning. Don’t know how many eggs they got as clinics policy is not to say! So annoyed about that as I can’t think of anything else! Need to wait till tomorrow

Elaydee · 19/08/2018 12:11

Good luck @a280!

KathyJ78 · 19/08/2018 12:51

@Elaydee well at least it's getting fainter.
I personally would keep testing now so you know when it is fully out.
@a280 I think our clinic does the same....just to make sure they are all viable eggs.

Can I lower the tone a bit 🙈🙈🙈. How soon after transfer do you think it's OK to have sex again!!? I can't remember the last time 🙈🙈🙈 my poor poor husband! 😂

On the plus side my positive is getting stronger.... still not sinking in though! Xx

Springb0ks · 19/08/2018 14:40

Sorry ladies, been checked out of here a while. I'm mentioned before that I suffer from anxiety and I've been having a really rough time. However, as of this afternoon I am officially PUPO. We got 8 embryos in total, 3 top quality. My job now is to go back and get all of your updates. Baby dust to all Star

Elaydee · 19/08/2018 14:52

@kathyj oh yep. I am not stopping now. Can't. Stop. LOL. My info pack says 'sexual intercourse can be resumed whenever you feel like it'... soooo... its up to you what you want to tell him ;-)

@springb0ks congrats on being PUPO! x

Sunny1984 · 19/08/2018 15:12

Hey ladies,

Just catching up, had a bit of a rough few days so have been a bit of the radar!

Huge congrats @KathyJ78 that’s amazing news ☺️ let’s hope it’s the start of many BFPs!!

@Springb0ks congrats on being PUPO and amazing news on 8 embryos! Will they all be good to freeze?

@A280 Pleased to hear your EC is all done, are you starting the progesterone injections today? Which ones did you go for in the end?

@Elaydee I tested a few days ago to see if the trigger was out and it was still a blazing positive so I’ve decided not to bother and just hold out until next Sunday to test (not sure who I’m trying to kid that I’ll last that long!!)

I’m really struggling with the 2WW it’s been the worst part so far!!

OP posts:
Elaydee · 19/08/2018 15:23

@sunny1984 tell me about it. By far the worst bit so far is waiting. For me I think it’s because you’re no longer doing something proactive towards it all. Before it was milestones, like, first scan, first injection, collection, transfer... now it’s literally just waiting. But I will continue to test, because I’m a complete mental case!

A280 · 19/08/2018 16:08

Thanks @elaydee! I totally understand what you mean by the 2ww being the worst. During the rest of the procedure you are always actively doing something/ going for something and then all of a sudden its like everything you had to do is done and you just have to wait. Makes you feel so unproductive!

@kathyjr8 ive just had a long nap to pass time so i dont have to be thinking about how many eggs. My minds on overdrive!

@springb0ks just did a wuick google search and now know what PUPO means. Congrats

@sunny1984 thank you! They have decided to go for intra muscular progesterone topped with suppositories. The injection was super painful compared to the s/c ive had so far. Im so sore from it. Hope the rough days have passed and its the beginning for brighter days for you. Take care

Sunny1984 · 19/08/2018 17:17

@A280 and @Elaydee that was exactly what I was going to say! Before we were always doing something active towards the end goal! Now all we can do is sit tight! I’m missing the distraction of work, I think if there is another round needed I will ask to be put onto light duties or doing admin!!

Thanks @A280 I had some spotting on Friday, was very matter of fact about it and just thought it was still from egg collection as I was still sore from it but then went into a little meltdown about it all!! Has anyone else had any twinges and cramping? I have been on and off which is bothering me as well! Will DH be doing them for you? To be honest the sub cut progesterone is pretty awful as well, the injection itself is fine but I’ve got lots of sore lumps left!! Which is making wearing jeans bloody painful!

OP posts:
Elaydee · 19/08/2018 18:57

@sunny1984 yep, random low period pains, aches and right now I’m so bloated that I feel like I need to be popped with a pin! I have my top button undone! 😂

A280 · 19/08/2018 19:51

@sunny1984 take it easy the next few days. If you haven’t got work maybe do a little project on the computer eg. sorting out photos from the past and making a pic collage or surprise for DH. Or binge watch your fav series start to finish. Or what ever you like to do but never have time to cos of work. My hubbys got the playstation out so we can play racing when im resting...not my kind of fun but atleast he feeels involved!

As for the progesterone gosh they are painful. I cant even sleep on the side i did mine today. The lumps sound aweful! How long are they staying? DH isnt brave enough to help with the injections so Im going to have to manage!

Elaydee · 20/08/2018 08:18

Hopefully this is a lucky thread, because my tests never went negative and are slowly getting darker Grin !!

I'm 5dp5dt (which I guess is 10dpo) but I have lots of hurdles to get over first. If I make it to 5 weeks, I'm getting an early scan because of my huge ectopic risk. I've never made it past about 6 weeks... ugh. I hate how loss ruins the excitement of pregnancy. But very grateful for now!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 20/08/2018 11:02

@Elaydee this is all starting to get very exciting, I so hope this is your time, by gosh you deserve it to be....!!! When do you next go in to the clinic for a scan, or is not till 5 weeks?

Its so sad that after all we have been through that it makes us take off our rose tinted glasses, however, when our time comes we will treasure it so much more!!

So whats the deal with the testing and the waiting for the negative before moving on to a positive?

Hope your weekend went okay with your visitors!

xxx

Elaydee · 20/08/2018 12:08

@positivethinkingrainbow yeah i think standard after an ectopic is 5 weeks location scan (when its usually 6-8 for IVF) but i ruptured 5.5 weeks last pregnancy, so I think i'll politely ask for bloods from 4.5 weeks.

The testing idea is for impatient early testers like me who like to waste money. So you can take an early test from about 2dpt (on a 5dt, so 7dpo equivelent) and make sure it has gone negative, so when you test at 4/5dpt, if you get a positive, its a BFP and not your trigger still in your system. Mine went neg on a cheapie so crazy lady me checked on an FRER and it was very faint but still there. It never went completely away and is getting darker and a clear line now. Let me see if i can get a photo...

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 20/08/2018 12:36

Oh I see with the testing method , this is soooo bloody exciting!!!

I am sure that this little embryo will be very well behaved and know its job to find a nice spot to attach in your uterus this time!!!!

TM INFO ALERT, I have only gone a bloody developed thrush, had to rush to Sainsburys before work. I think it must be because I am one the Norethisterone, never had a problem before!
Typical timing, fingers crossed the pessarie does it job as I have got my trial transfer on Friday.

Elaydee · 20/08/2018 13:54

@positivethinkingrainbow It is exciting. But I can't get too excited yet.

I'm sure it will clear up in time for Friday. What exactly do they put in for your trial and how do they know if it 'worked'?

CupcakeVampire · 20/08/2018 14:33

Hello all

Looks like everybody is progressing well. Congrats all.

Been very under the weather lately and I think it's a combination of downregging and some sort of cold virus that is taking far too long to shake off. Definitely feel that this has been a rougher ride on the downregging than the first cycle. Hot flushes galore, sore heads, tiredness and gloomy moods. I think that I was probably better on round one as I wasn't sure what to expect. This time, with the miscarriage and the abandoned cycle behind me, I'm not feeling as positive.

I have managed to reach the first milestone however, so that's good. I'm now on estrogen as of today as my blood tests have shown that I'm suitably downregged to progress. I probably won't be happy till the next scan as this is where we failed last time. Once I get over that hurdle hopefully I will feel more positive Smile.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 20/08/2018 14:47

@Elaydee" Dare to Dream" is Izzy Judds slogan, sums it all up I think!

The trial transfer is just them literally checking that they can get the tube through my cervix, as I had some of my cervix removed in the past to get rid of cervical cancer. They need to check that there is no problems getting the tube in to the place they need to. Obviously on the day of the actually transfer they want everything to run smoothly.

They only realised this at my last appointment which was our last big appointment with all the meds etc, I was so annoyed as they had all my medical history two months prior and had put me on Norethisterone (like the pill) for two months whilst they organised themselves with talking to my consultants etc.
So annoying, so it has delayed by a another month, which I know sounds little but I just want to get things going!!!!

I think I would not have minded so much if I had not been put on the pill, as at least we could of continued trying in the mean time. Like it would of happened anyway, but you never know!!!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 20/08/2018 14:49

@Elaydee you started your meds on day 3 of your period didn't you?
xx

Springb0ks · 20/08/2018 15:24

@sunny1984 we had a call this morning to say that they have frozen two top quality and 5 good quality. I truly understand how lucky we have been with this.

@cupcakevampire sorry you're feeling under the weather, hope you pick up soon.

@elaydee, keep testing like crazy! Grin what day after your transfer did you start testing?

Elaydee · 20/08/2018 17:58

@CupcakeVampire sorry to hear you're feeling unwell and maybe a bit flat. Its quite hard to stay positive when only negativity surrounds the journey so far. Especially after loss. Its not that related but, I met with my friend yesterday who has twin boys from IVF. She was telling me this hilarious story about how just before her transfer a woman in the waiting room told her that she had been 'laughing all morning and watching Friends' before her transfer because 'it increases the chance of success and implanting'. (I've done a quick google and there are some articles out there). Anyway, my friend went into a quick panic with 10 minutes until transfer, telling her husband to make her laugh with a joke and it wasn't working and eventually they were laughing at the madness that they were trying this technique. In a long round about way, its hard to keep positive, but perhaps distract yourself with other happy things like movies and TV shows and when you get to transfer, try it out... you never know, it certainly can't hurt ;)

@Potisitvethinkingrainbow I remember when you were talking about how at last minute they realised they needed a trial transfer... very frustrating. A month is like 6 months in this process. So, this is a silly question, but why cant they try to get the tube through at any time in your cycle to speed it all up? I know it opens and closes, so is that why and you can't just shove it through?

Yes, started on day 3 because they were closed on CD1. So CD1 was a Saturday and they didn't open until Monday. If CD1 was a Friday, I would have started CD1.

@springb0ks day 2 after transfer I did a quick cheapie test expecting it to be negative and it wasn't... so had to keep on going haha! I read women getting positives on day 4 so I didn't want any chance of confusing it, if you know what I mean.

CupcakeVampire · 21/08/2018 10:22

Funnily enough I have set aside my evenings at the moment to try and shift the backlog of TV shows that I have recorded over the past year or so. I'm studying part time with the OU and from October through to June my nights are usually taken up with that, leaving no time for TV watching. I always end up with a few entire series sitting on the sky box come summer. Just finished binge watching one last night Grin and will need to select another one to start tonight. I've also got a list of ones to watch on Netflix and Prime so there's no danger of running out of content if I want to distract myself.

Hoping that the estrogen tablets will perk me up. The nurse said it would combat some of the downregging symptoms. DH is coming with me to the next scan so he can be there for support. I think he felt a bit helpless the last time being at work when the cycle was cancelled.

Elaydee · 21/08/2018 12:16

@cupcakevampire distractions and one day at a time is all we can do xx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 21/08/2018 16:49

@cupcakevampire there is nothing better to relax your mind then a Netflix and Chill session ;)

@Elaydee They have to do it on the day they would do your real egg transfer, I did plead with them to do it last time I went in which was only 4 day past the day they wanted to do it on this month.... so annoying but at least we are almost there now!
I am keeping everything crossed that it all goes okay so that I can start meds and get this whole thing started!!!
Anymore testing today? xx
