IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@positivethinkingrainbow i would go on holiday if I were you! Infact we are thinking Mauritius too over xmas/new years! Just run it through with your doctor. Mines said you cant stop living your life. make sure you wear some compression/travel stocking that you can buy from boots/any pharmacy. Also speak to your doctor incase you need a baby aspirin. Keep super hydrated on the plane, carry snacks in case of delays etc and yucky plane food. Also advisable to pay for a good travel insurance incase of any last minute changes. Carry extra of any medicines you may be on. Carry all medical notes with you just in case

My egg retrieval is scheduled this Sunday- taking the trigger tonight!!

A280 · 17/08/2018 11:46

@kathyj78 ive just ordered 30 cheap pregnancy tests from amazon!! Lol we are all serial testers!

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 12:08

@PostiveThinkingRainbow I'm not sure what you mean by long or short protocol!!!!!😕? Thank you ladies! I'm feeling great! X

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 13:02

@A280 I have already got some of those stockings so will definitely be taking those! I know that is what my old fertility use to tell me, stop putting the rest of your life on hold.

I can definitely recommend Mauritius if you have not been there before, to be honest it only came on my raider when I was looking for somewhere Zika free, so was a happy surprise.

Trigger shot tonight, exciting week for you then!

@KathyJ78 in IVF you either follow the drugs etc of long protocol or short protocol, depends on your medical history etc what they choose is best for you.
I have PCOS so we are going to be following short, I was surprised at the time line, it almost matches the time pattern of a natural cycle.

@kathyj78 I can def see a faint line! Wish you the very best xxx

aandre26 · 17/08/2018 15:28

@PostiveThinkingRainbow i would go on holiday and use it as a perfect way to relax and enjoy my times with my hubby of it was me!!
However if it was me, i would still check with the hospital and just get the all clear thats youre okay to go etc.
Happy booking x x

Elaydee · 17/08/2018 18:24

@positivethinkingrainbow I didn’t tell my work anything. Luckily I work remotely three days a week, so going to appointments was easy. And I’m 10 mins from my hospital. I only took a day off for EC. I have no idea what someone working in an office everyday would do... I suppose take two weeks off.. it just adds to all the pressure though. Should be some sort of law put in place to protect working women going through IVF.

You made such a good point there. Better chance than a natural cycle! I’m going to keep telling myself that! What is it, something like 20%? How does anyone even get pregnant ever?! Haha!

My husband invited a friend of his and his wife and 18 month old to stay with us this weekend. The boy was a “surprise”. Sometimes my husband really doesn’t think at all about what a sensitive time it is and hearing them talk about what a “unplanned surprise” he was all the time isn’t reaaaalllyyyy what I wanted right now!

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 18:53

@elaydee that's going to be hard...but I bet your husband done it with good intentions, maybe to take your mind off everything?
Try to think one day you'll be giving people your advice because of your successful journey 😊 xx keep positive xx

Elaydee · 17/08/2018 19:06

@KathyJ just seen your positive! Huge congrats!!

Haha nah, he just doesn’t think. We had friends of his stay last weekend with their three babies right after my collection! I was like ‘are you being serious?!’ He invites them and doesn’t think. They all don’t know we have just done IVF so I just keep a happy face on and smile through the “when are you guys going to try” questions!

aandre26 · 17/08/2018 19:26

The "when are you going to have kids question" really gets on my tits!!!
Its no ones business! And very insensitive.

@Elaydee stay strong. Your made of tough stuff! Every time they mention the surprise child just swiftly change the topic they'll soon get the picture.

@PostiveThinkingRainbow with work, i came back to work today and had ET yesterday. i could have worked fine yesterday but gave myself the day to relax.
After EC i went back to work the next day again, but felt the odd spout of uncomfortable but nothing unbearable.
I think its depends on the individual how they feel to be honest.
I expected the worst from ec, but in the end the trigger was what drained me the most as i was so sick.

@KathyJ78 i can see the faint line!!! Congratulations!!! Thats really exciting xxx

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 19:41

Thanks ladies....I just hope it gets stronger now! It's not even as if you can have a glass of wine to numb it a bit!......that's one thing I will miss on a Friday night....🍷!

I'm not in work at the moment as I'm a teacher but I would definitely book the day of transfer off....although I went shopping after mine on sat as felt fine x

aandre26 · 17/08/2018 20:58

@KathyJ78 im not a big drinker. Never have been really. However....since starting ivf meds ive never craved a glass of wine more....isnt it weird!

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 21:16

Perhaps it's 'want what you can't have' 😂

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 21:30

@kathyj78 I definitely see a sneaky second line, How bloody exciting! Keeping everything crossed it gets stronger everyday xxx

@elaydee when I read the part only 20% chance how does anyone one fall pregnant I actually laughed out loud, really made me giggle because when you get to our stage that's exactly what you think! So yes 40% is double our normal chances, come on modern medicine!

Sorry to hear about your weekend situation, you have every right to feel the way you do, I know I would feel a bit put out to say the least. It's not that we begrudge anyone else's happiness or children but sometimes it takes all your strength to not burst into tears saying if only you knew what I have been through.
Also do not even get me going on the...
Do you want kids...
When will you start trying...

Why can't people just mind their own bloody business, surely in this day and age people should be a little more sensitive and aware.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 21:34

I'm still not sure what to say to work, if worse comes to worse my GP is amazing and I'm sure she would sign me off.
It's just the last thing you should have to worry about and I really don't want to tell them as it's private and the last thing I want is them all asking me a million questions.
Oh the struggle xxx

Elaydee · 18/08/2018 08:05

@positivethinkingrainbow I’m sure your doctor could sign you off with ‘gynecological leave’ no manager or colleague is going to question that shiz! After my ectopic surgeries and being off two weeks each time I just told everyone (except my manager) I had to have ‘lady surgery’... no one asks another question after that!!!!! I think in fear of you offering any more details.... haha!

So I’ve tested alllllmost negative 10 days post trigger. Wah hoo! Time to put down the tests for a few days 😬 I’m now 3dp5dt!!

aandre26 · 18/08/2018 08:18

Fingers and toes crossed 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 @Elaydee
Im too scared to test!!! 🤦🏽‍♀️

aandre26 · 18/08/2018 15:09

@Elaydee have you had any side effects?? Wondering if my nausea (mild) is normal or the pessaries

@Springb0ks where have you disappeared to ec twin?

Elaydee · 18/08/2018 15:46

@aandre26 I’d say everything at this stage is the pessaries! All I’m suffering from is major exhaustion... like can’t do anything exhaustion! Got up at 7, got in bed at 11:30 and slept until 3! So annoying! Sorry you’re feeling sick 🤢

aandre26 · 18/08/2018 16:18

@Elaydee i feel you on the exhaustion page!! I barely made it through work yesterday. Got home and out like a light.
I had mild nausea before when i messaged. But im not sure if ts more psychological and im reading into everything!! Damn you pessaries. Xx

Elaydee · 18/08/2018 16:53

@aandre26 well, for you it could be a symptom! But for me, I never got anything before week 5 in all of my pregnancies... maybe sore boobs around 4.5 weeks.

Elaydee · 19/08/2018 10:01

I’ve been naughty and kept testing and my trigger is still in my system 4dpt 😩

aandre26 · 19/08/2018 10:11

@Elaydee youre going to send yourself crazy!!! Hide the tests!!! Dont do it to yourself hun! X x x x

KathyJ78 · 19/08/2018 11:32

@Elaydee how long has it been since your trigger now? X
