IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@Elaydee I took the trigger on sat 3rd and had the transfer a week later on the 10th. By the 11th the yesterday were negative so about 8 days but I think it varies. Between shot and transfer i just tested every couple of days.

@aandre26 there's lovely news to wake up to. Congratulations x

A280 · 16/08/2018 09:48

Good luck for the transfer @aandre26

Are any of you on the progesterone injection? What are they like?

Also, those of you have had a transfer- were you given a diazepam before the transfer?

Sunny1984 · 16/08/2018 09:57

Amazing @aandre26 good luck for today!

@A280 I didn’t have anything before transfer. Is that your clinic has said they’ll give you?
I am on progesterone injections. I’m having Lubion so it is subcutaneous. Which one are you having? I’m finding the Lubion ok but does leave a sore lump after, in my jeans today I can feel where I’ve given them 🙄!

@sunny1984 they are discussing that with me today so wanted to go in prepared! They had mentioned it was a intramuscular progesterone so will be really painful as its oil based. I was hoping it would be pessaries- i can deal with that messy affair!

As for the diazepam i have read studies it helps calm the uterus from contractions so was wondering if any one actually used it/planning to use it?

Sunny1984 · 16/08/2018 10:08

@A280 I think the IM used to be gold standard but my clinic has said they have moved to Lubion and then 2 pessaries a day as the IM can be painful. I was going to have the IM but couldn’t self administer which just doesn’t work with mine and DH shift pattern. Are you NHS or private?

@sunny1984 So are you doing the Lubion and pessaries on the same days(sorry if thats a silly question) . Ill see if they can do subcutaneous as i will have to self administer- hubby has biggest fear of doctors/ needles/ blood! He fainted during one of my iui’s before they had even started! Im doing it privately

Elaydee · 16/08/2018 10:35

Thanks @KathyJ I'm going to keep testing with cheapies this week until its gone... at least it cures my pee on a stick craving while waiting to properly test haha!

aandre26 · 16/08/2018 11:03

Thank you ladies! We have a fighter on our hands. Takes after his/her mama!!

Now that im at et stage i can think about peeing on a stick!
I might do one half way through ttw. I dont want to build my hopes up too much.

@Sunny1984 good luck with your progesterone!

@KathyJ78 thank you. Are you due ec soon?

@Elaydee thank you. do you know how long the hcg hormone takes to leave your system?

@A280 good luck!! I didnt realise you could have injections. Hope they arent too bad for you.

Elaydee · 16/08/2018 11:54

@aandre I was just asking this myself. Seems 8-10 days might be the case.

KathyJ78 · 16/08/2018 12:58

Hi @aandre26 no I had donor egg and head transfer last sat.....I'm assuming ec means egg collection😂! X

aandre26 · 16/08/2018 13:03

@KathyJ78 yes ec means egg collection.
Dont worry im still learning all the terms too. 😂
Egg donor wow!! Thats amazing!! I hope it works out for you!!
So do you test a week tomorrow? Xx

KathyJ78 · 16/08/2018 13:35

Thank you. We had 2 attempts with another donor last year but they were both BFN 😕. This time the embryos and lining were perfect and I had a scratch so really hoping all this is going to work! My donor just donated too....wasn't having ivf herself.....some people are so unbelievably kind 😍 yes testing day a week tomorrow 😊 x

aandre26 · 16/08/2018 14:45

@KathyJ78 some people are so kind. I wish i was in a position to do the same. But i cant produce many eggs otherwise i would have.
Good luck with your test hun!!!

Ladies; Precious Cargo is the name of my embie. Its fully on board. Our chance is 30%. I have faith and hope though. Xxx

KathyJ78 · 16/08/2018 14:56

@aandre26 congratulations!!!! Take it easy!! Yes I would have loved to have done it.....my husband has donated after all we've been through...he's my super sperm 😂 good luck x

Elaydee · 16/08/2018 16:43

@aandre I’m a textbook cycle and my chance is 40% so I think at 30% you’re right up there!!! In fact my embryologist said a woman in her early 20s is 50% so it’s all close in stats really, unless it was like 2% chance. Come on little PC!!!! 😍

@KathyJ a friend of mine has just got a BFP with a donor cycle. She is 42 and expecting a boy in February. I feel like this could be your turn 😍 Also there are two very young people I follow on YouTube who just had a donor embryo and they are now 8 weeks. It’s lovely watching their journey after so many hurdles!

KathyJ78 · 16/08/2018 16:58

Thank you! I have an 11 year old that we conceived without assistance so have already been very lucky, having a donor never bothered me.....my daughter looks nothing like me anyway! She would love this to work and we've been very open with her about it all. We are all very positive this time😊

I was never told my stats but 30% sounds really good @aandre26 x

RANDOM QUESTION ALERT *

Me and my husband really want to go on a holiday to Mauritius, it is Zika free which is why we have chosen that as a location. It is just a pure relaxation holiday and we have stayed at the hotel before (after TTC for so long Zika free has been our location criteria)

Because of work commitments we can not go away in Nov/Dec/Jan

We were due to start our IVF the same time as @Elaydee but they decided at the last minute to put it back another month so they could do a trial egg transfer on me, I had surgery on my cervix previously so they want to ensure they can get the tube through smoothly.
This is hopefully next Friday 24th, if that all goes well I will take my last Norethisterone on 29th August which means my period will start on Sat 1st September, I will be on short protocol.

The latest window we have to get away this year would be about the 12th October for about 12 days, which feels so close after the IVF, but then I feel like I can not keeping putting life off in hope we might get pregnant, we did not go away at all last year and have had a week off this year to go down to Cornwall as it was a friends wedding. Always trying to save money and holiday entitlement at work to use for IVF etc.

Half of me thinks that if god willing we are successful with our IVF it would be lovely to have one last adult holiday together.

I have of course been Googling like mad the safety of flying when in early stages of pregnancy and can not find any dangers apart from the fact it can be unpleasant if you suffer from morning sickness.

By the 12th Oct I am assuming we will know if the IVF was successful and will have been able to rule out if it was an ectopic pregnancy as I believe they scan you if you are lucky enough (everything crossed) to have our dream of a positive test to check where the embryo has implanted correctly?

I would love to hear your honest opinions and please be honest!!!!

Elaydee · 17/08/2018 09:20

Go on the holiday. Make sure you will be completely finished treatment, know your results and had location scan before you leave.

Women pilots and flight crew still get pregnant and fly in early pregnancy haha. Otherwise they'd have to resign once they start TTC, which they don't ;) (my mum was a flight attendant for 30 years)

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 09:56

I'm with elaydee. Go and enjoy yourself.....if it were me I would just double check insurance and medical care etc, just to be on the safe side. Sounds like a perfect anecdote for a relaxing pregancy 🌞🌞🌞🌞✈✈✈✈ x

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 10:12

@elaydee that is a very good point thank you, my sister is a flight steward and she obviously flew very early in both her very pregnancies.

I will check with my clinic about dates next Friday.

I am also wondering if on a practical level if the best time to go abroad is when you are at the early stages as you can rest and relax which will hopefully get things off to the best start, but also you may be to uncomfortable to travel later on and god forbid if you had any medical problems in later stages you would be in the UK.

It is such a hard thing to just not cancel and stop life whilst trying for a baby and putting things off, especially after as long as we have all been trying to conceive.

@elaydee how are you feeling in yourself? Do you feel like your walking around on cloud 9 with a little secret in your uterus!!!! Hope the taking tests is not proving too much of an obsession, I will be the same!!

Are you back to work now?

What was the date of your last period? xx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 10:23

@KathyJ78 yes that is a good point about asking my insurance!!

I also agree that being relaxed and away from the stresses of life would be a good start to any pregnancy ;)

I know it is an awful thing to think but I think this road of TTC has made me a realist, if I were to miscarry that early it would be a natural thing anyway so should not need any medical intervention.

I just can not wait to get the IVF process started, I am so excited!

What stage are you at? xx

Elaydee · 17/08/2018 10:33

@positivethinkingrainbow Personally if I was to travel in very early pregnancy, I would try to stay as close to home as possible (Europe), however, this is purely because of my bad experiences with loss. I'd be more comfortable travelling further once 8+ weeks and I'd request or even pay for another scan before going.

I was feeling really happy and positive the day of transfer and yesterday. Today my mind is playing tricks of '60% chance it wont work'. I have all my normal pregnancy symptoms but I know its just the progesterone. Funny how it is exactly the same! In a normal cycle I dont get anything until week 5, so another two weeks from today.

My test today is the same as yesterday, which is frustrating because I want it to go negative so I can trust a true positive. My plan was to get a negative and leave it a few days and then test again. I'm 9 days post Ovitrelle 250. Grr.

I was back to work the afternoon of transfer, but working at home.

LMP was 28 July.

KathyJ78 · 17/08/2018 11:01

@positivethinkingrainbow I had my transfer last Saturday, my test date isa week today but .......I'm a serial tester and am trying to stay calm but this morning there was a definate faint line 😊😊😊! I actually think its worked this time!!!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 11:12

@elaydee

Did you go straight back to work after your ET because you did not want them to know? I guess it also helps to take your mind off over thinking, as if we can do that!!!
I think to be honest I will try to take the week off for the scanning as it is so unpredictable as to when you will need to go in and then a couple of days for EC.

How many scans did you have before your EC?

So hard to explain to work you want time off at such short notice without having to tell them! What did you say to yours?

Staying relaxed and positive is hard after all we have been through, but also we know its the best thing we can do... Doh!!

The percentages are just not something to try and over think, after all we are on a better percentage rate then ever before with IVF, so maybe we should look at it as its the highest percentage so far in this journey!!!

It is such an emotional roller coaster, but keeping everything crossed we all deserve this to be our time and modern medicine is giving us the best chance!!

xxx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 17/08/2018 11:16

@kathyJ78 Oh how exciting, loving the positive attitude!! I know I will be a serial tester too!!! How could you not be??!

Sending you Positive Baby Dust Vibes!!!

Did you do long or short protocol? xx
