IVF July/August 2018

Hey,

So like the title says really is anyone about to start an IVF cycle in July or August?

This is my first cycle and I’m excited/petrified!!! I would love to have some cycle buddies to chat to and for support. It’s all self funded as due to the postcode lottery we get no NHS cycles.

Just a little background. I’m 34, have been TTC for 2 and a bit years now, initial diagnosis PCOS and I had 7 cycles of Clomid which resulted in me falling pregnant in December but sadly I had a MMC at 11 weeks. I have since been diagnosed with endometriosis following an unexpectedly low AMH result. My right ovary is has a significant cyst.

I have an endometrial scratch on Monday and will begin down reg on Monday night. I’m a nurse so have no fear of needles but not sure how I’ll manage with injecting myself.

Really hope to have some company on this journey xxx

@aandre26 I'm trying to not worry although for the past two days I've felt sooo sickly. I can't wait for the whole thing to be over! I'm at Centre for Life in Newcastle.

Elaydee · 13/08/2018 06:26

Good luck today for anyone doing EC Smile x

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 08:45

@Springb0ks how did your trigger go?
I did mine at 12.30 today. I have woken up feeling sick and dizzy and think thats due to the trigger. Hope i can get through the day though.
How are you feeling?

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 13/08/2018 08:48

@35counting so sorry to hear your news. Please do check in, I am not going to be even starting till next month but I felt like this is such a positive, supported group I thought best to stay!!! xxx

Springb0ks · 13/08/2018 09:16

@sunny1984 good luck for today!!!
@aandre26 did mine at 10pm as planned, have literally had 3 hours sleep and called into the clinic to pick up some anti sickness tablets. Wow- the nausea is like nothing I've ever experienced. Sat sipping tea (decaf), nibbling on ginger biscuits and waiting for my prescription to be ready. Do you think it's a mixture of hormones and nerves? Hope you manage to pick up throughout the day, do you have anything planned?

Elaydee · 13/08/2018 09:56

@Springb0ks and @aandre26 sorry to hear you are getting mean side effects. So that is from your trigger? Was it Ovitrelle? I'm getting the occasional sore boobs from the progesterone pessaries, which meanwhile, are so messy!!!! Much more than I read about... no idea what i'll do when I have to start taking one in the morning! Wear a maxi pad I suppose haha.

Got a call from the embryologist this morning. From my 7 collected and fertalised I have 4 good, 1 ok, 2 poor. I was preparing myself for a 50% drop off after fertalisation so i'm OK with that. Of course I wish all 7 were good!

@sunny1984 you're almost over the hurdles. Good luck!! x

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 10:07

@Springb0ks at least we both feel the same. That makes me relax a bit as it must be normal. If that makes sense.
I might pop into the chemist and get some anti sickness tablets too. (I live two hours from the clinic so will hope what the chemist advises is just as good.
And you're right the nausea is something else!!
Im at work all day - fortunately i work for the family business so hopefully my dad will let me slack off a bit. What about you?

I definitely think its hormones. I think its a lot for our bodies to take over the days. But the end result will be worth it.
Im not nervous yet....maybe that will set in tonight. X x

Springb0ks · 13/08/2018 10:38

@elaydee, 4 is amazing. And it only takes one, that's three whole extra! I've taken cyclogest earlier in my fertility treatments so know how messy they can be, are you lying down for a bit after you use them?
@aandre26 my clinic were so lovely, my favourite nurse sat with me (seriously, she's so lovely I would even name my child after her) and said it's totally normal, you've had lots of stimulating hormones and then just been given a whole load of HCG. She said the trigger is very powerful. I'm off for the six weeks holidays luckily so I've just been slipper shopping ready for tomorrow Grin I'm feeling nervous but more excited to get these potential eggs out of me. They. Hurt. A. Lot.

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 10:58

@Springb0ks @Elaydee my trigger was 1x busereline and 1x gonasi. Definitely mean side effects.
Chemist wont offer anything as he says they have to treat me as if im pregnant. But did recommend a ginger biscuit - perfect excuse for a treat i guess. 😜

@Elaydee thanks for the heads up on the pessaries.... it gets less and less glamorous as the journey goes on haha. And sore boobies have been my main side effect throughout so getting used to that now.
4 eggs is great news!! Im pleased for you. Any idea when you will have the implantation? Do you know how many embryos you will have put back in?

Elaydee · 13/08/2018 12:16

@sprinkb0ks I’ve learnt the hard way to take them at bedtime and not get up haha. Husband made me really laugh on the sofa the other day and I was considering putting a third one in because it all came out 🙈 horrifying!

@aandre26 ah, I had a different trigger and didn’t suffer too much. Funny how many variations we are all getting!
I’m going in Wednesday afternoon! And only one going in... I’m NHS so under no circumstances expect with only poor embryos will they do more than one for someone my age. I think if given the choice I would probably guiltily do two... I’d love twins but I know there a serious risks and all clinics advise against it. You?

Elaydee · 13/08/2018 12:17

*except

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 12:31

@Elaydee we are nhs too, we were given the option between one or two and we agreed to decide when we knew the strength of our embryos etc.
I feel the same as you, i would love twins - for me that would be my family complete. But understand the risk and complications that go with it. One will be a miracle. Twins would just be a big bonus.
How are you feeling about Wednesday?
Xx

Elaydee · 13/08/2018 12:37

@aandre26 how did you manage to get them to agree to two?? My sheet says 1 or 2, but was told it was only if the embryos were poor! Which we now know they aren’t... for now at least!

I feel really positive!!!!!

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 12:50

Or fertility specialist asked what we would prefer, and said we had made a wise choice to wait to decide. Thats all we got. We shall wait and see!!!

You should feel positive. I hope it all works out for you. How long have you been trying?

It feels so good to talk to people who know what i feel and go through same/similar as myself. Xx

Sunny1984 · 13/08/2018 13:58

Thank you for the good luck wishes! I’m done and relaxing on my sofa now! I’m quite sore so planning to do nothing the rest of the day!!

I’m really happy we got 6 eggs which is more than I expected, although the Dr said a couple may be immature. DH sample was excellent apparently (he is very pleased with himself 🤣🤣) Just need to wait for a call tomorrow morning 🤞🏻

@aandre26 and @Springb0ks sorry the trigger has made you feel so rough. I felt really sick with the sorest boobs but I’m such a numpty I didn’t think about the trigger shot being HCG 🙄!!

@Elaydee that is amazing news!! Hoping I get some good news in the next couple of days! Not sure yet how many we’ll have put back in and on what day. But we just said to the embryologist we’d be guided but what they thought best.

I know it’s not for everyone but I found the cyclogest much easier rectally as you didn’t need to stay laying down, no leaking or ruined underwear!!!

@sunny1984 well done for getting through the egg collection. Yes, take it easy today you deserve too!

@elaydee wow thats great news! When do you go in for the transfer?

@spingboks and @andre26 ive had the hcg shot everytime before my iuis and gosh its awful! I couldnt get through half an hour at work after my first one without feeling so nauseous. Sip of fresh ginger tea and i know you probably dont feel like eating but an empty stomach will make it worse!

I had another scan today- theres still just 6 follicles and they are growing fairly slowly. I somehow thought they might be more but i was wrong. Im prepared that there will only be 6 on the next scan! Hubby asked if its worth carrying on and Doctor said yes so im carrying on.

CupcakeVampire · 13/08/2018 16:53

Hello all, just catching up on the weekend posts. I ended up with a double whammy of AF and a bad cold over the weekend that knocked me for six. AF caught me out as the last time I downregged I didn't get a period so I wrongly assumed it would be the same this time around.

This culminated in completely forgetting to do my injection this morning Confused and only remembering as I sat down at my desk. I ended up driving all the way back home from work to do it in a mad panic. I've never forgotten to do one before. Luckily I usually do it before I leave for work so it wasn't that much later than normal.I blame the cold and AF, the latter especially. In my mind AF=nothing happening on the treatment front.

So sorry to hear your disappointing news @35counting. Hope it goes better next time.

Good luck for all of your upcoming ECs and fingers crossed @Sunny1984 that your eggs fertilise.

I'm another one that would love twins. I don't know if it has to do with reading far too much Sweet Valley High books when I was younger or not? Grin

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 17:26

How long does it take for the side effects to fade off!?
Im struggling so much and the clinic is closed. I tried to be put through to the out of hours department and nothing.
Ive tried to eat but i cant.
Drinking water is making me feel worse
Worst ive felt so far.

A280 · 13/08/2018 17:36

@aandre26 i used to keep ice cubes in my mouth for nausea- really helped- try with a small piece and just let it melt in your mouth.

Another thing ive tried is sea band/travel sickness bands that work on the concept of acupressure. If you cant get that now google where to press on your wrist (between middle and ring finger)..

Hope that helps!

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 18:00

@A280
Im using the ice cubes now to see if that helps.
Ive literally just been sick and i feel a lot better. I just hope thats the end of it now x x

Springb0ks · 13/08/2018 18:26

Holding your hand @aandre26, I feel rubbish too x

aandre26 · 13/08/2018 18:31

@Springb0ks i wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy!! I honestly dont know how Princess Kate did 3 rounds of severe morning sickness....
Holding your hand too. How are you holding up?

Springb0ks · 13/08/2018 20:11

I have the utmost respect for her @aandre26! My poor mum also had hyperemesis throughout all of her pregnancies, can't believe she kept going back for more. I'm feeling slightly less sick, the tablets that the clinic gave me have been so good. I'm just in the icy grip of anxiety now, not sure if I said earlier in the thread but I suffer from horrible panic attacks. I'm just trying to think "this time tomorrow, it'll be done".

Springb0ks · 13/08/2018 20:13

@sunny1984 just noticed you'd updated. Glad it is done for you and keeping my fingers crossed that those little eggs fertilise!

aandre26 · 14/08/2018 00:15

Sorry @Springb0ks for completely ignoring your last post. I was so bad i couldnt focus!
I honestly have never felt anything like that before!
Try not to worry or get anxious. You will be in safe hands with the surgeon. And like you said this time tomorrow it will be all over and your eggs will be harvesting!!
Sending you all the positive vibes!! I will be there with you in though and on the operating table!!! See you on the other side x x
To any other ladies good luck at whatever stage you are at. Xxx
