Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

It helps that I've not got any tests in the house!

Snowdayfet · 31/03/2018 14:57

Oooh everything crossed twinkle

twinkledag · 31/03/2018 17:53

More spotting today. Literally 3 spots.

Gurgly stomach but I can't tell if that's because it's worked, eating too much chocolate, nerves, the meds, or what!!

lucieloos · 31/03/2018 18:18

Argggh I can't wait any longer to know lol. I think the spotting is a good sign.

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 18:29

Oh twinkle I'm so pleased for you. Had such a good feeling! That's amazing news. You must be over the moon. How many dpt are you? What a lovely Easter treat 🐣

8 days post 5 day transfer.

It hasn't really sunk in yet!

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 18:44

That's amazing I hope this is going to be a lucky thread and we have a get run of bfps. Are you going to get bloods done?

Have to have a beta done on Weds. Where do I go? Does it cost? Do they give the results straightaway?

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 18:50

I always go to my local fertility clinic which I also use for my scans. Do you have one near you? What part of the U.K. are you in?

I'm in London so think I'll have to go to Harley Street.

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 18:54

Yes should be really easy to find somewhere in London.

More money! Easter Confused

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 19:03

Yes unfortunately but worth it now. I wonder how many you have in there! Can't wait to see what your betas are.

If you still need intralipids and are in London I know some other girls have used this place. You just need a letter from you clinic I think.

Thank you so much for the link Smile

Yes def worth every penny but scared of multiples now and am in debt from the IVF 🤦‍♀️

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 19:58

I'm in debt too it's hard but hopefully you can work through it and pay it off slowly.

In a way I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Going to pay off as much as I can before I have to go on maternity leave.

Are you paying yours off?

Jenbot78 · 01/04/2018 20:21

Congratulations! Nice to have a BFP on here, hope there are many more 😀. We are about to get into more debt for the FET, and more if it doesn't work. Just another hard part of all this...but as lucie says, we just try and pay off slowly and use 0 percent cards etc etc.

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 20:26

I won't be able to pay it all off if I get bfp. It's on a 0% credit card, I had some debt too when off with my first and whilst not ideal while on maternity leave I've just paid the minimum so it hasn't made too much of an impact on me. If I get another bfp I don't really care about the money to be honest. It will sort itself out even if it takes a few years.

Thanks @Jenbot78 and I don't think I said thanks to @Snowdayfet so thank you Snowy!

You girls are making me feel so much better about the debt I'm in. Thank you so much. It's been so nice having people to talk to through this process.

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 21:13

Yes don't worry about it hun it's only money and you will have something much more amazing than that with your gorgeous little baba. So long as you can afford to keep making the payments it will be worth every penny.

Hi lucie, I remember you from earlier threads when I was going through IVF for my first. I'm in a similar situation to you now (my son is 9 months). I swing between wanting to do a transfer pre going back to work (I'm taking a year off so back mid June) vs waiting and getting back into the swing of things at work. I must admit I also like having my body vaguely back to normal and not going through the stress of fertility treatment plus I found pregnancy hard and stressful!! On the other hand I worry it will be a slog to get pregnant again, am not getting any younger so should just crack on!!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and so sorry to hear about your chemical (so bloody unfair - you deserve an "easy ride" and hope its second time lucky xx

lucieloos · 01/04/2018 21:28

Aww hi choc I remember you too! So lovely we are all coming back together for number 2. I know what you mean it's a hard decision to make but I would quite like them pretty close in age and I like the idea of working for the rest of this year and then having the next one. These things never go to plan though do they so I'm not expecting miracles which is kind of why I'm just pressing on with it as it took so long the first time around I can't imagine we would be the type to get an easy ride second time around either. It would be quite hard being pregnant again with a very active 10 month old but I would do it in a heartbeat if given the chance so I guess I'm ready.

How many frosties do you have left and how old are you now? I'm 38 but will be 39 in the summer so feeling the pressure.
