Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

@twinkledag I'm sorry to read this. We also had our frozen embryo tested and had trisomy in 18, not viable for transfer. Gutted! And just donated it to scientific research. We had 1 embryo transferred but didn't test. It stuck, had good HCG levels, strong heartbeat but ended in MMC at 7 weeks. I guess it has some chromosomal abnormalities too. The tissue was sent for testing and hopefully soon will get results. Im now 43 and wonder what's next for us. My doctor suggested donor egg and were considering it. But going to try naturally for a couple of cycles as I'm now under fertility coach care, wth new supplements, diet, reflexology and hypnotherapy. I'm willing to try it all and if it doesn't work, we'll go for DE.

twinkledag · 16/05/2019 12:07

Thank you everyone. Starting to think DS was some sort of miracle! Since him I've had 7 embryos transferred and BFN and a miscarriage.

I'm 40, that's not THAT old is it?

Seriously considering ARGC...

twinkledag · 17/05/2019 09:34

I'm really sorry to read your news @Russkispy. It's heartbreaking isn't it but I have found it easier to deal with it this way rather than BFN or miscarriage which just kills me.

So DH and I spoke last night about having a consultation with ARGC, it's worth a couple of hundred quid to sit down with someone and go through our history and see if it's worth trying again. My heart says to go for it - my head does too - after all there is nothing seriously wrong with either of us?

However when I picture the future I can't picture us with another child. But then that's silly to think like that as no one knows their own future!

My clinic emailed back and said we could try again but they would have to consider that my age is a factor. They suggested donor eggs too but I'm not ready for that.

So #operation40 started this morning! Eggs for breakfast with brown toast, switching to decaf tea, joining the gym and trying to get Uber healthy for ARGC appointment and possible treatment!

twinkle I'm so sorry to hear your news - was totally rooting for you. I hope you don't mind me suggesting somewhere but I'd definitely recommend an appointment with Mr Colin Davis (he's set up a new clinic called Evewell but see him rather than a diff consultant). He's v hands on and tailors your approach and has similar success rates to argc. He's also v caring but cautious/pragmatic so think you'd get honest answers and the best possible care. He's been a total rock through all my cycles and takes each success or failure v personally. Good luck with whatever you decide xxxxx

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 17/05/2019 13:07

Also I had pgs with him whereas I know argc don't "believe" in it and push immune treatment whereas he's open to both. Feel free to pm me of course with any more details but he is the loveliest man xxx

twinkledag · 17/05/2019 15:51

Thank you @Chocolateandwineplease27, I will look into him 😊

RunForTheHillock · 21/05/2019 12:01

How are you doing @twinkledag?
(Hug)

twinkledag · 21/05/2019 20:28

Thanks for asking @RunForTheHillock.

We have an appointment at ARGC next week to go through our history and see if there's any point continuing. Me and DH don't feel ready to give up but also need to be realistic so let's see what they say.

Mummyshark2018 · 22/05/2019 18:13

Hello everyone,
Just jumping on as I need to offload.
So I have a 7 year old dc conceived via ivf when I was 28- she is amazing and I am so grateful. Due to a range of factors not been in a position to try again until recently. Had my AMH levels tested and today they came back at 2.2 which is extremely low for my age. Dh was due to have semen analysis test tomorrow but we've cancelled. I think this is the end of the road for us. Although another would have been wonderful I'm apprehensive about trying ivf with such low levels and was told the chances of success were very low. I was very lucky and conceived 1st time with dd and had a really straightforward protocol. I really don't want to face disappointment and heartache over a failed attempt. My dc was the one and only time that I have been pregnant.
Don't know if i am thinking logically or if it's the right thing to do but for now I need to put it to one side.
Good luck to all you ladies on your journeys. Xx

twinkledag · 23/05/2019 09:35

Sorry to hear that @Mummyshark2018, wish you all the best for the future.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 23/05/2019 10:43

@twinkledag glad you've got an appointment so quick and sounds like there are maybe some other options too like Chocolate mentioned. Let us know how it goes x

@Mummyshark2018 sorry to hear about your blood results. Have you thought about getting a consultation anyway somewhere with a good reputation? It might be worth it to get a specialist opinion. I know 2.2 is low but I don't know if that necessarily means there's no chance. I've only had my AMH checked when I was 27 and mine was 18 or 19 ish. I only realised years later that is not actually a high reading at that age. My consultant has said to me a few times that 10 years on he is sure my AMH would be very poor now

RunForTheHillock · 23/05/2019 16:44

I am not a great fan of the AMH test. I had it checked once and it was 21, than approx 1 year later it was checked again and it was 11. Then It was checked a further year later and it was 22?!
It makes no sense. Apparently taking vit d can increase your amh.
Good luck with your journey - wishing you success x

Thanks @NoCupcakesOrCocktails. On the way home from a work night out. Had a few drinks and a couple of cigarettes. So hard to be good all the time! I so wish I was free from this but also would love another child. Still have decided whether we go to ARGC, Lister or this Colin guy who has been recommended. Can't keep throwing thousands of pounds at this!

Why is it so hard? ☹️

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 25/05/2019 07:14

twinkle - do you know bananafish on here? She's set up the uber barren club on insta and is an absolute wealth of knowledge! We both coincidentally cycled with Colin but she knows so many different people who have cycled at various places so she'd be a good person to ask re where to go etc. I am not sure how often she is on MN but on insta/twitter - she's amazing xx

twinkledag · 25/05/2019 09:07

@Chocolateandwineplease27 - I do know her, I will PM her. Thank you 😊

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 28/05/2019 16:55

@twinkledag don't beat yourself up! It's impossible to be good all of the time and it's good to go out and blow off some steam. How are you doing? Have you had your appointment at ARGG yet?

twinkledag · 28/05/2019 18:32

Hey @NoCupcakesOrCocktails, the appointment is tomorrow but now I don't know if I should go to Colin Davis instead... or Lister... really am in last chance saloon here!

How are you?

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 29/05/2019 16:54

I hope today's appointment went well @twinkledag
I'm a bit of a mess, I was at the hospital for a scan this morning after more bleeding and sadly one of twins heart stopped a few days ago. The other twin is doing ok but I've been told it may be affected by the twin that has died if my body tries to miscarry. There's a pool of blood around the sac of that twin so it's likely I'll keep bleeding. I'm feeling very scared. Whatever happens this 100% the end for me, I can't face anymore treatment although I do have one more cycle to use with access fertility. It's 10 years next week since we started ttc and I don't want this to be my life anymore

twinkledag · 29/05/2019 17:32

Oh no @NoCupcakesOrCocktails, I wish I could come and give you a big hug 😢. What have the docs said, wait it out?

RunForTheHillock · 29/05/2019 19:30

So sorry @nocupcakes. There are no words 😶. Rest up. Thinking of you xxx

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 30/05/2019 07:30

Thanks twinkle and run. Doctor said it's just a case of wait and see. Had an awful night, couldn't sleep. We are going on holiday on Monday. It's in the UK so might as well still go and hopefully it will distract me. My next scan is in 2 weeks

twinkledag · 30/05/2019 17:04

Big hugs @NoCupcakesOrCocktails ❤️

twinkledag · 05/06/2019 09:26

How are you @NoCupcakesOrCocktails?

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 13/06/2019 18:47

Hi @twinkledag thanks for asking after me. It's been an awful 2 weeks but I finally had my 12 week scan today and the surviving baby is doing well. I'm so relieved but the anxiety is already creeping back in after a few hours of relief. Just going to try to take it one day at a time.

How is everything going with you? How have the appointments gone? Any idea of what you will try next? X
