Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Great news Smile we have our appointment with the frozen embryo nurse next week. Any good questions to ask? Apprehensive about this rollercoaster again...😬

lucieloos · 28/03/2018 11:58

It is such a rollercoaster isn't it Jen! Maybe ask if you will be doing medicated or natural fet and what they involve. Is it your first fet? I'm adding immune treatment to mine on a just incase basis so could ask if there are any extras that might help.

Wow lucie 11mm is amazing! How exciting.

twinkledag · 28/03/2018 18:39

Good luck @Jenbot78.

Had to run for the bus, hope that hasn't fucked this up for me!Sad

So I'm sat here having my intralipids done and been picking the consultants brain whilst I wait as thought I may as well have a free consultation lol. She said that even though an embryo has been pgs tested they can still fail or cause a chemical because they need to secrete the right glucose levels which I guess is to do with their metabolism. She said that is at a deeper genetic level which they can't test for at the moment and it's just one of those things that unfortunately happen so I reckon that might have been what the problem could have been for us snow. I said if these 3 embryos fail and we have to do another fresh cycle again I'm not sure whether to have them tested again or not and she said she probably wouldn't bother unless I made lots of embryos and would help to decide then but I never make a lot.

She said I should have a really good chance again this time with the next pgs one as each has around a 70% chance of implantation. I didn't think it was quite as high as that but fingers crossed eh.

70% sounds great! That's a really good chance.

I had intralipids done after embryo transfer and the clinic sent me home with more to do if this round is successful.

lucieloos · 29/03/2018 15:19

That's good twinkle who will you get to do them for you?

OP posts:
lucieloos · 29/03/2018 15:29

It's hard to get excited about the 70% chance as was meant to be the same last time and it didn't work 🙄

I don't know - where do I go, any ideas?!

lucieloos · 29/03/2018 16:13

I'm not sure I know some people have asked friends who are nurses to do it or I think there was a company you could pay and they would send a nurse around but I can't remember their name. Do you have any medical friends who would be willing to put it in for you?

I was quoted 85% success rates for a PGS tested blast. Makes me feel like a bit of a loser for failing. Although that is assuming there are no other issues and goodness knows what has happened since my last pregnancy. Have recently started to worry that I have adhesions or something (had emergency c section after difficult labour).

Ugh finding someone to put in intralipids! Haha! The things we do in the name of infertility Grin

Snowdayfet · 29/03/2018 17:29

That’s interesting btw lucie on the genetics. Makes me worry my eggs are really duff then - I had 9 blasts and of them 4 came back normal. If even more of them are screwed then I start to worry! Im still glad I tested as I could have in theory put back 5 abnormal blasts if I hadn’t and then I’d really be tearing my hair out.

Wow that's amazing getting 9 blasts snow I could only dream of that many. I would say in your case it's definitely worth testing as would take quite a while to work your way through all of those. I think my clinic quote 61% success rate for implantation with a tested blast. I don't think your eggs are duff it just happens. There's around a good 30% of tested ones that still don't work so it's far from guaranteed and probably happens to quite a lot of people. Guaranteed you will have one that works out of 4 tested blasts. Would your clinic do a hysteroscopy before the next transfer to put your mind at rest with regards to adhesions etc?

What is it with all these spam posts about surrogacy on here! Just reports that one.

OP posts:
Snowdayfet · 29/03/2018 22:02

Well I only have 2 left now lucie - one became my son, and the other we just lost. Hoping this next one takes!

Yes they thought I had mild PCOS as ended up with 17 eggs which was a surprise for everyone.

I’m going to ask my doctor about hysteroscopy although that may be overkill - I’ll see what he thinks.

The surrogacy posts are getting really annoying. They’re not even accurat! Reported too.

lucieloos · 30/03/2018 16:31

I'm sure you will be fine with 2. That's one more tested than me and you know you must have some that are good from that batch as one resulted in your son.

When are you due to test twinkle? Have you had any symptoms?

OP posts:
twinkledag · 30/03/2018 22:04

I had the tiniest of tiniest of spotting today. Blink and you'll miss it. The odd cramping. But I don't know!!

Testing day is the 4th.

Confused
lucieloos · 30/03/2018 22:08

Oh wow that sounds very promising!! Will you test early or do you like to wait until otd?

OP posts:
twinkledag · 30/03/2018 22:53

I've been soooo tempted to test but have stopped myself. I'm only 6 days post transfer! I'm going to hold out as much as possible.

lucieloos · 30/03/2018 23:04

I got my bfps at 4 and 6dpt so you never know it should be quite accurate with a frer now but good for you trying to hold as long as possible.
