Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

@nocupcakes - not sure if it is the same thing but I have bled/spotted before test date with every cycle. It is so stressful and my clinic are not really interested at all!

Great news @Genghis and @twinkle x

Can I ask if anyone has taken coenzymeq10 or ubiquinol? I am considering it if we have to do a fresh cycle. Anyone had any benefit? Dose suggestions?

twinkledag · 15/04/2019 14:48

I used ubiqinol in this cycle and previous cycle. I did get better quality embryos last time than I'd ever had before even though less eggs were collected.

RunForTheHillock · 16/04/2019 10:00

Thanks @twinkledag

Hi, thought I would say hello and see if I’m in the right place?! I’m at the early stages of planning IVF for a third baby (DD1 was natural conception, DD2 was IVF with my eggs and this time will be with donor eggs as I’m 2 years post (early) menopause. So am trying to conceive #3 having had IVF for #2. Looking forward to following everyone’s journeys. 🙂

twinkledag · 17/04/2019 20:06

Welcome @justjuggling

twinkledag · 19/04/2019 19:27

6 blastos became 1 by day 6 so feeling pretty shitty. Didn't expect this at all. It's being PGS tested and we find out in 4 weeks.

Any news anyone?

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails - any update?

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 19/04/2019 20:13

@twinkledag I'm so sorry the numbers aren't great. I know how disappointing it is when you don't end up with much to choose from. I'm really hoping that the PGS is normal for your blast and you can go for transfer ASAP. Have your numbers been much better before? I've had such a variety with my cycles. 2 of my fresh cycles I only had 1 at transfer and one of those cycles was my little boy so you never know 🤞🤞🤞

Thanks for the kind words. I've been a basket case and finally caved yesterday at 8dp5dt and got a BFP. I couldn't believe it, obviously I'm made up but I've been here before and not got a baby so I'm not getting ahead of myself. Still got 4 days until OTD

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 19/04/2019 20:14

And hello @justjuggling where are you up to? Have you had any consultations yet?

twinkledag · 19/04/2019 21:27

That's fantastic news @NoCupcakesOrCocktails! Thrilled for you and keeping everything crossed. Keep me posted.🤞

Thinking back now that you've mentioned it, I had 2 blastos on first cycle (DS is from this FET) and 2 at second.

Last cycle we had 5 at Day 5 but we all know how that ended.

We had 5 blastos at day 5 this time too but only 1 suitable by day 6 - the others were too slow.

snowdayfet · 20/04/2019 01:41

Hi all - just popping back to see how you’re getting on. Amazing news for those of you with BFPs - hurrah!

Twinkle what do you mean about blasts not making it to day 6? If you have blasts on day 5 they should be biopsied and frozen then, not kept on til day 6?

twinkledag · 20/04/2019 09:59

Hi snow, nice to hear from you.

I think I've got it wrong below - I mean we still had embryos at day 5 but they weren't blastos, they were a day behind where they should have been so too slow and not good enough to freeze. I hope that makes sense!

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 21/04/2019 07:21

Fab news cupcakes - everything crossed xxx

twinkle I'm sorry there wasn't more - the whole process is so exhausting. Hope you get some good news from the biopsy. I replied on your other thread - this pregnancy is pgs tested xxx

twinkledag · 21/04/2019 09:55

Thank you @Chocolateandwineplease27, please keep your fingers crossed for me 🤞

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 22/04/2019 09:55

Sorry to read Twinkle, but fingers crossed for the pgs testing! We didn't even get any to blastocyst stage. I hope the four weeks goes quickly x

Congratulations NoCupcakes! Wonderful news, and good luck for OTD.

Welcome and good luck Just

Hello Snow!

twinkledag · 22/04/2019 10:28

Thank you @GenghisKahnSchmitz. Did you have a day 3 transfer?

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 22/04/2019 11:00

Yes, a double. According to the biologist, they were the best of ok-ish quality (nice and technical!) The remaining two then didn't make it.

twinkledag · 22/04/2019 13:09

Amazing @GenghisKahnSchmitz, keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 23/04/2019 19:58

Hi just checking in to say it's OTD for me and I've still go a BFP. I'm excited but just taking it one day at a time. Got a scan booked for 2 and a bit weeks

Have you got a scan booked @GenghisKahnSchmitz? How have you been feeling?

Thanks @Chocolateandwineplease27 how is it all going?

Hope all is going well with your two little ones Snow

How are you feeling @twinkledag? I saw your other thread on PGS. I hope the next 4 weeks go as quick as possible x

twinkledag · 23/04/2019 20:38

That's exciting news @NoCupcakesOrCocktails, really hope this is it for you 🤞. Who are you cycling with BTW?

I'm feeling ok I guess. Just wish we had more than 1 to pin our hopes on! Got told today though that it's a grade 2 hatching blastocyst so that's made me feel a bit better.

💐 to everyone.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 23/04/2019 21:18

Thanks Twinkle! I'm with Care, that's who I had my DS with who was a grade 2 hatching blast so fingers crossed for your little embie 🤞🤞🤞🤞 x

twinkledag · 24/04/2019 09:16

Thanks @NoCupcakesOrCocktails. I know it only takes one, and I know every embryo is different BUT I still can't help but feel like it's not going to work. It must be a protection thing. I think if I'm excited and hopeful and it doesn't work then I'll feel like a fool. May as well save myself the bother! But then it does only take one! Such a mindfuck!

Hope everyone else is ok this morning.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 24/04/2019 23:57

Ha, I'm totally the same Twinkle, and definitely think it's for self preservation. Good news on its grading though so fingers crossed. How long do you think it will take after you get the results to start your FET cycle?

Great news on otd NoCupcakes, I have a scan around the same time as you.

Hello to everyone else!

twinkledag · 25/04/2019 09:34

@GenghisKahnSchmitz - if the results come back as good we will start the FET on next cycle.

Shoot me now people as I'm already looking at london clinics that offer unlimited ivf over 2 years and asking for money money from my mother in law! 😩🔫

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 28/04/2019 22:39

@twinkledag hopefully you won't need a plan for next time. Keeping everything crossed for this one. Is it the access fertility programme you are looking at? I've done the multi cycle programme with them, I've not had any complaints with them.

@GenghisKahnSchmitz keeping everything crossed for good scans for us both 🤞

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 29/04/2019 09:27

Keeping everything crossed for early scan results and pgs testing. Such a stressful time xxx
