Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

It's in 3 weeks so not long, am very surprised how soon it is! I think as long as they don't find anything I'll start on the next cycle

@Chocolateandwineplease27 I'm the same, so frustrating waiting I know. It's good that you know all is ok though. Yay to starting and I know exactly what you feel about the mix of desperation to start and the fear of it not working

@GenghisKahnSchmitz good luck with the IUI, it's good to be able to have a shot at getting pregnant while you wait for the ivf and you never know! Will be keeping everything crossed for you

I am at the point of really dreading announcements. I just can't face it. I was at an nct get together with a few bumps, everyone is on to number 2 and someone is even pregnant with number 3. I've had to distance myself which I hate doing but I can't face all the baby talk

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 21/01/2019 12:14

Happy Monday! Any sign of your period genghis?? Hope you can get cracking with your iui soon.

nocupcakes I'm starting to feel that way too and know I'll want to hibernate completely if this cycle doesn't work. Have you had a hysteroscopy before? I found the recovery really easy - no pain at all after the first day although my period afterwards was a lot heavier.

I've got my first scan tomorrow for my fet. I've been on estrogen for about a week now and getting a lot of cramps so hoping its doing what it should as I've never used patches before

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 23/01/2019 12:19

Hi Chocolate - how did your scan go? Glad that the ball is rolling.

Three weeks is good Cupcakes, and hopefully it'll all be straightforward.

AF finally arrived and I'm currently on day three of injections. I can't remember if I mentioned that I had to change consultants and I'm getting so sick of their mix ups. Most recently they were to give me my medication prescription for the iui but accidentally gave me one for ivf Confused. Anyway, it didn't really matter as the only extra drug was orgalutran, but I was just looking at it and the dosage for gonal f is 50 ui - doesn't that seem very low? I know they'll monitor and can change the dosage but I was still quite surprised to start on that dosage.

The next announcement I'm really dreading is a family one. I know it's going to come soon and now everytime I see a whatsapp or email come through, I have to psych myself up. Argh. Anyway, I hope you're all well!

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 24/01/2019 22:18

Hey genghis I must admit I'm clueless re iui - I didn't know they stim you for it?? I'm guessing they can only do a low dose as want you to produce one or two eggs??

Scan was good thanks - I didn't sleep the night before as was paranoid I'd ovulated and the cycle would be cancelled but all fine. Had my first intralipids today - they took ages to do the canular so my hand is in absolute tatters!

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 25/01/2019 04:50

Glad the scan went well, though sorry about your hand Chocolate. How many intralipid infusions do you have to get? (had to triple check the spelling of intralipid!)

And, sorry I meant the 50iu is for my ivf treatment (they accidentally gave me my prescription early), which I thought was really low. But yes, I do also stim for IUI but an even lower dosage for the reasons you mention.

It's Friday afternoon here so happy Friday everyone, and I hope you all have lovely weekends!

Jenbot78 · 04/02/2019 20:05

Hello all, just hopping on to say hi. I haven't been on MN at all for a long time. Lots of reasons really, the first being I got a fertility coach who helped me with the advocacy side of things but also the mentalness a LOT. This was the only thread that I found helpful really but would spend hours on MN infertility boards looking at all the millions of things that could go wrong with my treatment/my age etc. Just not good. So I avoided completely!

But I wanted to say hi to you ladies and update that I had a FET in January and just got a BFP this weekend. Obviously still early days and VERY nervous but hoping for the best. This time around I got Dr George Ndukwe involved from the Zita West clinic. He took care of the immunes side of things and we threw the works at our FET. Intralipids, clexane, steroids. Seems to have done the trick FOR NOW. Need to wait for our scan.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 04/02/2019 20:27

Wow @Jenbot78 very cautious congratulations to you. Will be keeping absolutely everything crossed that things go well from here for you am interested in the fertility coach as I can't seem to stop driving myself crazy and I think we are both in the north west?

@GenghisKahnSchmitz and @Chocolateandwineplease27 how are things going? Are you at the stages of having the IUI or ET yet? I can't remember what type of FET you were having Chocolate. I hope all is going ok for you both

I've just had my hysteroscopy today. All went fine, they didn't find any problems. I'm also half disappointed like you chocolate! I'm going to ring for follow up tomorrow but I'm hoping to go again with a FET asap. I've had 2 FETs so far which have both been long protocol due to previous issues with my lining. I'm thinking if I can have the shorter or unmedicated one next. I've had long protocol due to past issues with my lining but I haven't had any issues in recent years and as I've had random bleeding before ET and just after with them both I'm wondering if it's not the right protocol for me. Anyone had much experience with either?

I hope everyone else is doing ok? @snowdayfet have you had your little one? @lucieloos hope all is going ok with 2! @twinkledag have been thinking of you Thanks

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 05/02/2019 02:51

Oh Jen, that's wonderful news! A cautious congratulations, and I really hope everything goes well. Let us know how you get on at the scan.

I'm glad the hysteroscopy went well Cupcakes and fingers crossed they let you start the FET as soon as possible.

I had my insemination yesterday so currently in the 2ww. I had two mature follicles this time so that better up my chances! Anyway, at least this whiles away the time until our appointments at the end of the month.

Hello to everyone else!

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 05/02/2019 09:27

@GenghisKahnSchmitz eeek welcome to the 2ww! 2 lead follies sounds good, keeping everything crossed for you

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 06/02/2019 19:54

That's amazing news Jen! So pleased for you and glad the fertility coach is helping - think it's a great concept. I had hypnotherapy with my first and the lady specialised in ivf - I found it really helpful although old me would think it was bat shit!

Lots of luck genghis hope the time flies by!

Glad the hysteroscopy went OK cupcakes - my consultant was adament that it was really good to do even if they don't find anything as it makes sure the lining is 100 per cent. Fingers crossed you can start again soon xx

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 08/02/2019 21:12

@Chocolateandwineplease27 yeah fingers crossed all is ship shape down there at least! How is your cycle going? Have you got a date for ET yet?

@Jenbot78 hope all is ok

@GenghisKahnSchmitz hope you are keeping very busy in the 2ww and not driving yourself too crazy

Jenbot78 · 10/02/2019 10:53

Thanks guys, had some spotting so am feeling a bit low/anxious. All I can do is wait until the scan I guess in two weeks...Just saw that I hadn't offered congratulations to lucie - sorry Lucie! Congrats, such lovely news. I hope you are all doing well and enjoying being a mum of two!

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 10/02/2019 16:41

@Jenbot78 so sorry to hear about the spotting. What a stress, just a waiting game now. I'll be keeping absolutely everything crossed for you. I know how horrible this waiting is, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. When is the scan? Take care of yourself x

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 10/02/2019 16:42

Sorry just seen you'd said 2 weeks below x

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 10/02/2019 19:28

Sorry to hear that jen - it's non stop stress and so hard when you've been through so much to get to this point. Does your clinic do betas? Might give you comfort pre scan xx

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 12/02/2019 03:15

Sorry to read about the bleeding Jen. I really hope it's stopped now, and that the two weeks fly by for you.

Still in the 2ww here, I've been testing out the trigger and it's finally gone today.

How's everything going Chocolate and Cupcakes?

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 12/02/2019 16:03

How many days post ovulation are you genghis??

It's all such a waiting game isn't it.

I've actually had my transfer and can't believe it but have tested positive but unfortunately in the same position as jen as have had some spotting so now more waiting to see if it gets worse or I make it another few weeks for a scan. Feeling bloody terrified to be honest - had forgotten what a roller-coaster the early days are and how you're basically one toilet trip away from it all going completely side ways

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 12/02/2019 20:49

@Chocolateandwineplease27 gosh Smile congratulations on tbe positive. Will be keeping everything crossed for both of you xxx

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 13/02/2019 03:39

A tentative congratulations Chocolate, I really hope the spotting subsides xxx

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 13/02/2019 18:16

Thanks both xxx

Jenbot78 · 14/02/2019 19:54

Chocolate tentative congrats. I’m six weeks now but still absolutely miserable and terrified things will go wrong. I had another episode of spotting on Monday and a tiny bit of brown blood today. I am obsessively checking, and am terrified every time I go to the loo. It’s just ghastly. After Monday’s episode of spotting I got an HCG blood test done. My number was 5250 which apparently is reassuringly high. However this hasn’t given me any more positivity!! Especially after the spotting today. My scan isn’t for another week and a half and I am so worried and sad all the time. It’s just hellish.

cupcakes my coach is Tasha Blasi an American lady. She costs £££ and I had to think hard before going ahead but has been fantastic on the advocacy/medical side of things (she went through IVF ten times to get two children!!) and also on keeping my sanity! Google her for more info.

Jenbot78 · 14/02/2019 19:55

Sorry, Ghenghis hope you are doing ok and not going too insane!

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 15/02/2019 16:40

Oh god jen your message really resonated - it's so terrifying and also so lonely isn't it - plus you have to keep on/try and pretend everything is normal. I'm really struggling to focus at work in particular. Keeping everything crossed for you and lots of positive vibes xxxxx

snowdayfet · 16/02/2019 07:15

Wow just popped back on and all this good news! Massive congrats jen and chocolate. Really hoping that your BFPs stick and you go on to have happy uneventful pregnancies and (dare I get that far ahead) births.

genghis keeping everything crossed for you. Hoping you’re staying reasonably sane in the horror that is the 2ww.

Afm, I had a little girl 4 weeks ago. Ended up with another emergency c section so not the easiest but she is gorgeous and loving having her here. DS is taking his time to adjust which is interesting, but we’re all finally settling down as a family of 4.

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 17/02/2019 17:46

Aw amazing news snow huge congratulations and hope you're recovering OK post c sec. How old is your Ds? Can imagine a new arrival is a bit of a shock xxxx
