Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

pony I couldn’t get out of bed for a week after EC. You would definitely know if you had ohss! Don’t stress.

Jenbot78 · 16/05/2018 08:51

Thanks for birthday wishes for me and DD! I gave up alcohol when I started stimms I think, although I cut right down before that. However I do remember having a couple of wild nights only the month before that. Generally I had been pretty well behaved for some months before that. For my frozen cycle I will probably have a drink or two here and there. Have to do something to get through it. I am patiently waiting to test my thyroid again. If it is right then the clinic will let me start on my next period (early June.) Still a little concerned that even if the numbers are right it won't stay that way for long...Hmmm. Don't want to delay any longer but also want everything to be perfect!

Jenbot78 · 16/05/2018 08:55

Other things I am doing: trying to increase iron levels with liver(bleurghh) and spinach (iron very low since having DD) and also acupuncture again...

twinkledag · 16/05/2018 11:36

Fingers crossed @Jenbot78 you can go again quickly! And thanks for sharing what you're doing.

I never drink more than 2 small glasses of wine at a time and I always drink with food - can't handle a hangover these days! With the warm weather though, I am finding that the frequency is increasing - been drinking every weekend since bank holiday! Feels like a lot!

I take iron tablets @Jenbot78 - must be nicer than liver 🤮

Snowdayfet · 16/05/2018 17:51

It’s definitely worth waiting to get the thyroid right jen. So so important.

I just got my first beta back and it is good - hcg 328 and progesterone 92. So am feeling good about that for 11dp5dt. Will repeat on Friday - hopefully it’ll show nice doubling.

HelloMist · 17/05/2018 07:42

Thanks for the best wishes Twinkledag, Snow, Lucie.

Hope it's not much longer for you Twinkle. I've had cycles of 41-60 days after cycles that haven't gone well (MC, BFN). It stayed at around 40 days rather than my old 30ish in between cycles. Just to warn you in case you are the same.

Hope your thyroid results are better this time Jenbot.

My AF came (less painful than drug free ones) and I continue to down reg. Had one night feeling exhausted and very early to bed but have been active and more like normal since then.

twinkledag · 17/05/2018 08:47

That's great news @Snowdayfet Smile

lucieloos · 17/05/2018 09:06

That's amazing news snow! Mine was 252 the day before you so yours sounds right on track. Fingers crossed for good doubling for you. Your progesterone is really good. What are you taking?

Twinkle, are you due to start your next round when af arrives? I think I cut down on alcohol a little more during a fresh cycle but didn't cut it out completely.

Pony, great news on the egg collection. Hope they are all doing well.

Cupcakes, hope you are ok Thanks

Thanks guy. Yes lucie I was surprised at how high it was. I am taking a lubion shot in the morning and one cyclogest in the evening. I had lubion during my first successful fet that resulted in my son - I think I respond really well to it. And the injections are fine - just into the stomach. I only did cyclogest last time.

Snowdayfet · 17/05/2018 09:52

*guys

lucieloos · 17/05/2018 10:33

I am the same snow. My last cycle with the chemical I used pio but with my daughter I also used lubion so this time around I decided to use it again despite the considerable extra cost. I seem to respond really well to it too and have only had success when using it so who knows. I am also on 3 cyclogest as well! It's funny though as my progesterone only came out at around 50.

I had problems with cyclogest wih my first fet which is why I went onto lubion. I do remember my doctor saying that actually the progesterone test with cyclogest is a bit unreliable - something to do with the absorption going directly into the uterus and not passing through the blood? (Can’t remember exactly what.) But I prefer to have the peace of mind with lubion.

twinkledag · 17/05/2018 11:49

My period arrived!

I was going to wait till next cycle as I am so busy at the moment but I may have to start this cycle to fit it in as my clinic is closed all of August. If I have another long period I am cutting it really fine for the transfer!

I'm just waiting to hear back from my clinic to check what dates I need scans as I am out of the country next week on business so won't be able to have scans so easily!

HelloMist · 17/05/2018 12:36

Hope you can fit it in, Twinkle.

Good news snow, sorry didn't mean to miss you out.

Snowdayfet · 18/05/2018 15:58

Just got my second beta back and good news - hcg up to 964 from 362 on weds and progesterone up to 142. So really good numbers. Really pleased with the hcg going up so much in 22hrs. Am now booked in for a viability scan the first week of June so will just sit tight and stress until then.

twinkle really hope your dates work out. I find the logistics of fertility treatment to be the hardest thing of all - even worse than the drugs and the emotional drain in some way.

twinkledag · 18/05/2018 19:00

That's brilliant news @Snowdayfet! How are you feeling?

Snowdayfet · 18/05/2018 19:41

Thanks twinkle! Am a bit dizzy and nauseous actually. But other than that fine. Happy it’s friday night and I can chill out for a bit!

How are you feeling?

Snowdayfet · 18/05/2018 19:42

And just reread my post back and I meant 45 hours not 22 hours. Doh!

PonyPals · 19/05/2018 11:46

@Snowdayfet those sound like perfect numbers!

PonyPals · 19/05/2018 11:47

Yay! Well done pony! Everything crossed for a good result.

twinkledag · 20/05/2018 08:34

Brilliant! Well done @PonyPals Thanks

HelloMist · 20/05/2018 19:12

Good luck pony! Nice to see the picture.

Good news Snow

Jenbot78 · 23/05/2018 22:04

Good luck pony and good news snow. Thread pretty quiet, I guess we are all just putting our heads down and getting through! This end I am (im)patiently waiting for my thyroid to stabilise. Speaking to clinic tomorrow to see if this next cycle (June) or one after (July) depending on how long needs to be left between TSH tests...

Snowdayfet · 27/05/2018 12:32

Hope everyone is having good weekends. jen hoping you had some good - or at least clear - news from your clinic.

pony hoping the 2ww isn’t too stressful for you. Guessing your otd must be coming up, keeping everything crossed for you.
