Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Hi mist. Glad you survived. I find the anticipation is always worse than once you’re actually into the swing of a treatment cycle. FX everything goes fast and is successful for you.

Official test date is not til next Thursday. I will probably just keep an eye on my hpts until then and go in for a first beta then assuming I’m getting nice lines. Line is darkening up nicely so good so far but am not getting properly excited for another couple of weeks yet as know it could still fail yet.

twinkledag · 11/05/2018 19:25

Fingers crossed time goes fast for you @HelloMist!

Has anyone given up alcohol in run up to IVF or FET?

Snowdayfet · 12/05/2018 08:39

Goodness me, no, twinkle Grin

lucieloos · 12/05/2018 10:31

No definitely not me either twinkle Grin

Good luck for Thursday snow! Sounds like everything is going well though.

Hi mist hope the month goes quickly for you and you can get your fet underway. Wishing you lots of luck.

Oh good, cause I had two glasses of wine last night!

I do stop when I'm on the meds.

Feeling a bit down thinking why should the two I have left work when the three I had put back didn't? But it's just a numbers game isn't it?

lucieloos · 12/05/2018 12:12

Yes it's definitely a numbers game. The more you try the greater the chance of success.

There isn't anything I can do to affect the chances of them working, is there?

Snowdayfet · 12/05/2018 13:33

Well there is, twinkle, but it’s proper science related stuff - make sure your thyroid is normal, you’re at a healthy weight, you don’t have any blood disorders, immune issues etc. And that you have sufficient amounts of vit d.

All the acupuncture / eating healthily / don’t stress type stuff is largely irrelevant, especially for a fet.

Jenbot78 · 12/05/2018 13:57

Snow that's where I'm struggling! Got at least a stone to lose after having DD1, thyroid unstable and have an autoimmune disease 😕. Feel like I have a mountain to climb. As for drinking, I just turned 40 this week 😱😱. So I have drunk shitloads. AF arrived today so usual negative feelings, but hopefully by next AF I will have my levels right and be ready to start! Feeling negative again about it all working, feel I can't be so lucky for the FET to work after successsful IVF.

Jenbot78 · 12/05/2018 13:58

Also snow congrats on BFP! Amazing news 😀

twinkledag · 12/05/2018 14:54

Snow - I don't have anything in your first para, prob could do with losing half a stone though like most people!

Happy 40th @Jenbot78! It's hard not to get your hopes up isn't it? The FET that gave me DS was the one I had lost all hope for. You just never know. Thanks

twinkledag · 12/05/2018 15:03

How much Vit D do we need?

Snowdayfet · 12/05/2018 15:45

Aw jen don’t feel down. Am sorry if that made you feel low. At least you know the issues & can address them. You’ll get there!

twinkle my doctor recommends 1000mu daily

twinkledag · 12/05/2018 17:42

Thanks @Snowdayfet, I'll get some.

Jenbot78 · 12/05/2018 19:43

Snow you didn't make me feel bad. Thanks for kind words. Just feeling down in dumps due to AF and being 40. DD1 turns 1 on Tuesday which is lovely and I am so proud of her! But also sad and annoyed with my body because we have been TTC since I stopped Breastfeeding in November. Apparently when you stop you are the most fertile...not! Sorry for the rant. Think I'm just ready to crack on with cycle...

Snowdayfet · 13/05/2018 06:52

Hugs, jen. It’s so tough and so unfair that we can’t just have a shag and get pregnant like everyone else. Happy birthday to your daughter for Tuesday! What a lovely milestone.

twinkledag · 13/05/2018 09:25

It is so unfair @Jenbot78! Happy birthday to your DD Cake

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 13/05/2018 22:21

Happy birthday @Jenbot78 hope you have had a lovely time celebrating

@Snowdayfet hope the 2ww is going quick and glad to hear the lines are getting darker

@HelloMist yay to starting!

@twinkledag I have given up drinking before all of my fresh cycles apart from the one that worked Grin I didn't bother at all with my FET I just stopped at transfer. My consultant just said it's not that important for a FET as obviously you aren't growing your eggs!

I had my follow up on Friday and all that's left is a thick endometrium so they think I'll pass that in the next few weeks. I've got another scan in 2 weeks and hopefully that will be it. I thought I would feel better hearing that it had gone but I was a mess on Friday. I think a combination of finally saying goodbye and feeling like I'm the furthest I've been from getting pregnant on this whole journey. I'm going to the GP tomorrow as I think I need some medication as I've been having lots of panic attacks. I'm also going to book my follow up with the clinic tomorrow as I've no idea how long they will make me wait and I need to start moving forward somehow. I'm hoping trying to take some control back over my life will help me move on

Snowdayfet · 15/05/2018 06:38

cupcakes am so sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. It’s such a stressful extended time for you. Glad you are accessing the help you need from your gp. Thinking of you Flowers

twinkledag · 15/05/2018 08:58

Hey everyone and to @NoCupcakesOrCocktails ThanksThanksThanks

I'm still waiting for my period to arrive! Currently on cd34 Confused

PonyPals · 15/05/2018 10:17

Congratulations @Snowdayfet that's wonderful news!

AFM had 18 eggs collected Got the results and 8 have fertilised. We are doing the embryoscope this time around so fingers crossed at least half survive to day 5.

twinkledag · 15/05/2018 16:09

That's brilliant @PonyPals! Grin

twinkledag · 15/05/2018 19:31

Following on from my alcohol question, did anyone give up alcohol for their fresh cycle?

Snowdayfet · 15/05/2018 23:12

I didn’t give up but I had very minimal drinks during my fresh cycle. Maybe a half glass here and there (mostly whilst I was out as to refuse people would have thought I was pregnant - o the irony!). I had a massive blow out post EC and after I’d recovered from my ohss (freeze all cycle) Grin

PonyPals · 16/05/2018 00:26

Gave up alcohol just to see if it will make a difference.
How do you know If you have mild OHSS?
Day 2 after EC and I'm still feeling so bloated and windy!
