Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Hi girls,

This thread has gone pretty quiet.
I am going ok. Certainly don't feel anything and I'm 8dp5dt so another couple of days and it will be testing day.
Kind of want it to hurry up and kind of just want to stay PUPO

lucieloos · 27/05/2018 15:26

Hi there, sorry I haven't posted for a while!

Pony, good luck with the testing! Keeping everything crossed for you. You are being very patient waiting so long.
*
Snow*, fabulous news about your second beta. Looks like really good numbers. Have you had a scan yet?

Twinkle, did your dates work out to fit in scans etc?

Afm, I'm now 10 weeks. Had another private scan last week as we had been away and just wanting to make sure everything was ok as I have barely any symptoms this time. It was fine baby was much bigger and moving about and now has arms and legs! Got harmony test on Friday and then NHS scan in 2 weeks.

@lucieloos wow time flies so fast. Can't believe you are 10 weeks already.
Good luck with the harmony test and the scan.

Thanks for well wishes. I don't have any desire to test as I don't think it has worked so happy to stay in hope for now.

Snowdayfet · 28/05/2018 14:18

Wow lucie really glad you’re feeling well and baby is well. I am feeling so sick I’m a bit jealous of your lack of symptoms!

pony really hoping you have a good result. Big hugs.

PonyPals · 29/05/2018 09:04

It's a BFP for me ladies... for now!
The HCG is a bit low at 91 as the clinic wants to see it at 150 and above. Re testing again on Friday.

lucieloos · 29/05/2018 10:42

Wow great news pony it looks a nice line! Fingers crossed for Friday.

Snowdayfet · 29/05/2018 11:50

Hurrah pony! That is a great looking bfp. Hopefully your numbers are reassuringly high on Friday. For now, congrats!

twinkledag · 29/05/2018 16:13

Congratulations @PonyPals! Fingers crossed for Friday.
Thanks

HelloMist · 01/06/2018 08:57

Hope it is good news today, PonyPals

Lucie glad scan gave you the reassurance you needed.

I had my baseline scan yesterday and got the green light to go onto progynova ready for FET. Was fed up of down regging so I'm pleased to move on Smile lots of pills to remember but hoping it balances out my tiredness, urge to snack etc.

PonyPals · 01/06/2018 08:59

Sad I am still in limbo. The hcg is up from 91 to 215, which technically doubled in 3 days but just.
They want me to do another test on Monday Sad

twinkledag · 01/06/2018 11:05

Wishing you all the luck in the world for Monday @PonyPals 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Jenbot78 · 01/06/2018 13:02

Ponypals fingers crossed for Monday and hope you manage to keep busy until then. Mist bet you are glad that things are progressing!

I am still (im)patiently waiting for thyroid levels to balance. Hoping it will be all good for me to start in early July.

Snowdayfet · 01/06/2018 19:29

Oh gosh how frustrating pony. Really hope Monday brings some good news. I believe FETs are known to be slower starters so hopefully your little embie just took awhile to burrow in.

jen you are being so patient! Hopefully you’ve got some fun stuff planned for June so at least you can have some distractions whilst you wait.

Jenbot78 · 02/06/2018 20:27

Snow have a hen do next week to go to and thought I would have started my cycle so would have had to field some awks questions. So I don't need to worry about that although I will try and be a BIT moderate (not in my nature though so hard!)

Also I have been doing this couch to 5k thing with some ladies. Ran 5k today so really proud of myself. Has given me another focus, also the more weight I can lose the better I guess before my cycle. Is kind of helping me mentally although all this waiting is putting my head in a bit of a negative place...I know I need to think positive. If the FET doesn't work then I will be gutted either way so might as well think good thoughts. Sounds so easy when I write it down but so hard in practice 😬

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 04/06/2018 05:05

Hello everyone! I was on here at the start but disappeared due to a family emergency. Congratulations Lucie and Snow - wonderful news.

Sorry Cupcakes and Twinkle Flowers

Good luck today Pony

I went to see our doctor today all ready to start IUI next week only to be told that because the hospital has moved, he's transferring me to a colleague, and I have to wait another fecking month just for an appointment with her. I am so sick of waiting. I was really annoyed earlier as we started the ball rolling again back in the middle of March and realistically we won't have our first attempt until July/August. Angry Sorry for the rant, I know in the grand scheme of things it's nothing!

Good luck to everyone gearing up.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 04/06/2018 05:11

Oh, and does anyone have experience of antisperm antibodies? DH's levels have gone up from 95% to 98% from two years ago.

Snowdayfet · 04/06/2018 08:53

jen hen sounds fun! I would go for it - pregnancy and moderation are a real drag, enjoy it all while you can. And congrats on the 5k - I am in awe, I cannot run at all. I know what you mean about stressing but you just have to remember that your attitude isn’t going to affect if you get pregnant - that’s the magic of science. So feel free to be as positive or negative as you feel like!

genghis nice to see you again. How frustrating with appointment. It’s hard enough without being messed around. No experience of antibodies I’m afraid.

pony good luck today.

lucieloos · 04/06/2018 08:58

Pony, wishing you lots of luck today.

Ghengis, sorry about the wait it's one of the hardest parts of the process I found. Hope it goes quickly for you. Sorry I don't have any experience of antibodies.

Jen, well done with the running. Very impressive! Hope your thyroid sorts itself soon.

Snow, what's happening with you? Have you had a scan yet?

I had my harmony test on Friday so I'm waiting for the results from that which should hopefully be the beginning of next week. Had a scan as well and all looking good. Got the 12 week one a week tomorrow.

PonyPals · 04/06/2018 11:03

Thanks girls for the well wishes. Looks like they worked! I am officially pregnant the levels came back at 698.
5 weeks today and the first scan next Wednesday!!!!! Still in shock!!!

@GenghisKahnSchmitz welcome back. It's unfair that you have to wait until July. Waiting is certainly the hardest part of IVF.

@lucieloos great to hear that everything is going well. How did decide on harmony and how long does it take? What does it test for? Sorry about all these questions.

lucieloos · 04/06/2018 11:14

Pony, that's brilliant news. Congratulations! Good luck for the scan next week. I had the harmony test with my last pregnancy. It's a lot more accurate than the NHS tests and tests for more things i.e. Downs, edwards syndrome, patau etc. It takes about a week for the results to come back and they can also tell you the sex at that stage if you want to find out but we have chosen not to. The nhs tests missed very serious conditions with 2 of my friends babies and they had to have very late terminations as the babies were sadly not compatible with life. I don't take any risks anymore and go for the best tests that are available.

Snowdayfet · 04/06/2018 13:40

pony that’s amazing news! How exciting. You must be thrilled.

lucie your risk of any of that will be negligible with a PGS tested frostie, right? Hopefully just a confirmatory exercise rather than anything else.

I have my scan tomorrow morning. Eek! I have been so violently sick this weekend on the one hand I think something must be happening in there - but on the other am worried the embie is not developing properly etc. The usual! I will be glad when tomorrow is over either way.

PonyPals · 04/06/2018 13:44

Thanks @lucieloos that's good info.
We tested all our embies too except the one that is actually sticking around so will be doing harmory I think.

@Snowdayfet that's exciting. How many weeks will you be??

Snowdayfet · 04/06/2018 13:57

I am 7 weeks today pony (assuming there’s actually something growing inside me). I must say that I will be doubly cross if everything is not right as I have been sick so many times I feel like I need a reward!

lucieloos · 04/06/2018 16:23

Snow, yes hopefully but I messaged Dr Sher in America who devised the pgs testing and he said that I should also do the harmony so that is good enough for me! What he says goes. Good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine. Sickness is a really good sign.

Snowdayfet · 04/06/2018 21:53

Thanks! Am a bit nervous but it will be good to know one way or another. If all is well I’m going to ask for some anti nausea meds as can’t keep throwing everything up like this. Ugh!

That’s interesting re needing to test despite doing PGS. Didn’t realise!
