Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Thanks Snowdog and Lucieloos

Woo for BFP Lucieloos! Keeping everything crossed for a sticky one Smile

twinkledag · 11/04/2018 15:12

Does anyone know what day of your cycle you have a FET?

lucieloos · 11/04/2018 15:13

Thanks cupcakes.

Twinkle it's normally Day 19-21.

Thanks @lucieloos Smile

Jenbot78 · 11/04/2018 19:36

Pleased for you lucieloos and sending positive sticky vibes! Twinkle know what you mean about drinking and smoking-is often the same for me. Very wise to avoid (as I am currently doing!) thanks for info re:FET lucie I was wondering this too. Also I have another question, what happens to your natural ovulation in a medicated FET? I usually O on day 13 of my cycle. cupcakes nice to see you and sorry for your loss. 😐 hope you get some closure on this round soon and feel able to move forward.

lucieloos · 11/04/2018 19:58

Thanks jen. In a medicated fet the estrogen suppresses your follicles so that they don't grow and therefore you won't ovulate.

How are you feeling @lucieloos?

lucieloos · 11/04/2018 20:55

Ok thanks twinkle. A little nervous but trying to remain positive and hope for the best. How are you today?

Just want to bleed so this is over. It's really annoying all the waiting. I feel ready to move on mentally but the not bleeding is holding me back.

Snowdayfet · 11/04/2018 21:26

lucie have been sending positive thoughts your way today.

twinkle hopefully the bleeding starts soon. Now you’re off the progesterone it shouldn’t be too far away if your hcg was dropping.

My FETs have always been done a little later - for my DS round which was medicated I transferred on day 24 as my lining was reasonably thin. This time round I transferred on day 26 as I have a longer cycle and oved in day 21.

In other news I have eaten so much sugar and fat today I actually feel nauseous (courtesy of my metformin) - croissant, Nutella sandwich, disgusting meatball sandwich for lunch, chocolate bar. Ugh!

twinkledag · 11/04/2018 21:34

@Snowdayfet - I'm on the wine to try and move things along!! Am adamant that I'm not going to return back to smoking though.

Are you planning a FET this month? I had a good food day until I ate half an Easter egg 🤦‍♀️.

Snowdayfet · 11/04/2018 21:44

Yes I am. I think I ovulated on Monday (give or take) so am hoping my period comes in 2 weeks. Then we’ll start a medicated FET. Fingers crossed!

twinkledag · 11/04/2018 21:45

Good luck @Snowdayfet Thanks

Snowdayfet · 11/04/2018 21:54

Thanks! Am sure I will be posting obsessively on here throughout Grin

twinkledag · 12/04/2018 09:18

My period started overnight so at least I can now love on mentally and look towards the FET.

How is everyone else today?

twinkledag · 12/04/2018 09:19

*move on

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 12/04/2018 13:40

Twinkle Thanks glad it's started so at least you can start to move on. Have you the clinic said when you can do the FET?

I must admit despite just doing a FET I'm a bit clueless about how it works. I'd only done fresh cycles before as I'm normally low on embryos by transfer. Exciting that you will get to start soon Snow!

I've been really struggling the past few days, I'm counting down the hours till tomorrow's scan. I've finally called the clinic and updated them so hopefully I can arrange my follow up next week

twinkledag · 12/04/2018 15:04

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails - I don't know how you're coping with this, you must be going out of your mind! I've been off work all week, have you been going in to work?

I can't do FET next month due to work commitments so will be doing it in June.

NoCupcakesOrCocktails · 12/04/2018 15:20

I am a bit to be honest @twinkledag I've not been sleeping and am struggling to find the motivation to do anything. Yeah I've been off work for ages. I took the 2ww off as was really stressed, then as soon as I got the positive test I was told to have bed rest because of the bleeding. My gp has just given me another sick note for a month last week so I will have had nearly 2 months off at this rate. I'm a bit ashamed of having so much time off Blush I work in a job where I am around babies pretty much all day though so not the best place for me at the minute. Are you planning on going back next week?

June is good, not too long to wait but gives you time to get ready

twinkledag · 12/04/2018 15:56

Are work ok with you being off? It's so hard to balance it all isn't it? I managed a failed fresh and FET cycle last year without work knowing but this time I was open about the miscarriage. But I didn't want them to know I was TTC really Sad

I will go back on Monday. I need to try and get back to normal.

Me and DH are pottering around the house together today, just getting on with things as if nothing happened. I said unfortunately we are so used to disappointment that we just get over it quickly Sad

lucieloos · 12/04/2018 16:03

Twinkle glad af has arrived and you can start to move on and plan for the next try. Will serum allow you to do back to back? I reckon that helped me as my womb was primed ready from the previous attempt.

Cupcakes, sorry to hear you're struggling. Hope everything goes as well as it can tomorrow.

Snow, not long for you now. Can't wait until you get started.

@twinkledag yes they have been ok I think, I've actually not even managed to speak to my manager directly. She is out of the office most of the time so I text her originally and we've just ended up sorting it all by text. She has sounded ok about it all so hopefully she is! I actually only asked my GP for a 2 week note as at that point I was going to the hospital every other day and waiting hours sometimes. I don't know why but he put a month on the note. Depending what happens if I miscarry next week I'm sure I will be ready to go back to work sooner. I'm bored at home and keen to get back to some sort of normality. I totally get you on the being used to disappointment sadly Sad

twinkledag · 12/04/2018 16:42

@lucieloos - I didn't even bother asking to do the cycles back to back. My mind needs a break tbh. I'd have to start thinking about it all over again from tomorrow (day 2) and it's too soon. Although now I'm thinking if I started tomorrow I could squeeze in baby being born before my 40th...

@NoCupcakesOrCocktails - hope you get the answers you need tomorrow. This is too much of a head fuck! Angry
