3rd or more time lucky - IVF cycle buddies October

Hobbes39 · 13/09/2017 16:15

Hi Just wondering of there are folks on here who are about to go through their 3rd + time of IVF who want a cycle buddy? I dont mean it badly towards anyone who is starting their IVF journey for the first time, (i was there just this time last year after all) but I feel a bit like I cant be as optomistic about it as I was, so dont want to drag any first timers down? Hope that makes sense!
Anyway, just to explain about me:
TTC #2 for over 2.5 years now
Unexplained Secondary Infertility (have 4 year old DS)
Age 40.5 Shock
AMH: 15.4
2 failed fresh and 1 falied FET (with single frozen 3BB embryo we got from 2nd fresh round)
about to start 3rd fresh round when my period starts in approx 7-10 days, so will probably be late october EC.
anyone else a bit jaded, but still vaguely hopeful want to join me?
xx

And congrats you're getting going again @bjonesreborn !!

Decafplease · 15/02/2018 15:51

Thanks geeup. Was sorry to hear that your cycle failed as well.
We decided to go for the same cycle program. The counsultant thought that the mmc was probably due to faulty fetal genetics as it got as far as implantation this time. He did offer immunes and PGS, but DH and I decided we would rather spend the money on another cycle. Hopefully this cycle the frosties take hold and grow!

bjonesreborn · 16/02/2018 18:43

Best of luck decaf got everything crossed for you this time round
geeup do you know when your testing will be?
hobbes hope you’re ok

Hobbes39 · 16/02/2018 20:26

Hi @Decafplease - sorry you are here still too... as you say it's bittersweet to have familiar names here...I wish we could all forget stupid infertility and just live our lives! Sounds like you are on a similar timescale to me - I'm due to have transfer in about 12 days I think... not sure tho, depends on lining. I'm actually quietly panicking that I've already ovulated (which would mean cancelling this FET) as I (apologies for tmi) had oodles of EWCM yesterday but seeems to jar dried up a bit today Confused. God I hope I haven't... was due to have a scan a week on Monday but I think I'm going to ask them to bring it forward just to have a check! 🤞 x

Thanks bjones. Def ask for an early scan if you are worried! I am off now for a baseline scan. If all goes well, should be ~14 days to transfer. So we would be on a similar timescale. Fingers crossed for us both!

Hello everyone. Decaf, Bjones, Hobbes, geeup, I hope this cycle is the one that works for all of you.

DW and I have started another fresh cycle. She started Gonal F on Thursday and had a scan today. They said that one follicle has reached 13mm but the others haven't grown. There is a concern about this one ovulating so they have told her to start the Cetrodide today and she has another scan on Weds. I suppose the choice will be whether we cancel the cycle or go ahead, depending on what happens by Thursday. but continuing a cycle with only one follicle must mean we could only hope to get one egg.

Last time (which was our first fresh cycle), she had about 16 follicles, which all matured at more or less the same rate, and we got 9 eggs. They haven't given any explanation of why only one follicle has developed this time. Has this happened to anyone else? We are doing IVF as same sex couple and neither of us has fertility issues.

I'm not sure what to expect on Weds. DW is really upset.

bjonesreborn · 19/02/2018 14:37

Hi wanda sorry no advice for you but didn’t want to read and run. Are you on the same drugs as last time? Hopefully one of the others will have an answer for you. Take care to both of you.

geeup · 19/02/2018 16:20

I'm sorry. I advice from me either but really hope the docs can suggest a good route forwards. Wishing you luck!

Hobbes39 · 19/02/2018 16:42

Hi @1Wanda1 - sorry you are having such a stressful time - I'm afraid I don't have any advice or experience of this either - i know that cycles can vary, and it's possible the other follicles will start to grow and it may be that they will keep your DW on stims for longer to get them to catch up, but sorry I can't be more helpful. I hope this weeks scan gives you more info and that it's better news x

Hi wanda sorry no advice from me either. As said above different cycles can show different results, hopefully the docs can figure out best option for you.

1Wanda1 · 19/02/2018 18:04

Spoke to nurse who just said that in every cycle, there will be a different amount of follicles ready to be engaged with the process and this is something that can happen. She's on a higher dose of Gonal F (300) than last time because last time they started on a lower dose and then had to increase it. Maybe the others will start to respond by Weds, if not I guess we cancel the cycle. Urgh it's all so frustrating!

bjonesreborn · 21/02/2018 19:44

How did you get on wanda? With the scan?
hobbes all still going ok?

1Wanda1 · 22/02/2018 10:30

At second scan they said to increase does to 450 to see if smaller follies grow. Third scan is tomorrow so I guess we'll find out then whether we can continue or should cancel this cycle.

I'm finding it so hard this time with all the absence from work. There are only so many "medical appointments" you can have in the space of a few days, especially when each one involves an hour's trip each way, and I have no more annual leave to take.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring better news.

Hobbes39 · 22/02/2018 14:55

Hi - @1Wanda1, will keep everything crossed for you that tomorrow will bring good new...
I'm going in for my scan tomorrow to check lining and if all ok then transfer will be on Wednesday... been feeling
Very lightheaded and quite headachey the last few days - not sure if is the estrogen or just a bug, but hoping I get to balance out my hormones with progesterone tomorrow! 🤞

bjonesreborn · 22/02/2018 16:24

Good luck wanda and hobbes for tomorrows scans

1Wanda1 · 22/02/2018 16:54

Thanks bjones. Gosh getting ready for another 2ww Hobbes, exciting but nerve wracking. I hope your scan goes well and that you feel better soon. DW and I have both been feeling really tired this cycle - not sure if it's the drugs or time of year, but hoping for an early night tonight.

Hobbes39 · 23/02/2018 11:03

Just out my appointment - we are all good to go with transfer on Wednesday 🤞🤞

1Wanda1 · 23/02/2018 11:29

That's good news Hobbes. I so hope that this time will be your lucky time.

Hobbes39 · 23/02/2018 11:47

@1Wanda1 - has your DW had her scan yet? Hope some of the other follicles have started growing?

OP posts:
bjonesreborn · 23/02/2018 12:05

Great news hobbes everything crossed for you
Any news wanda

Hobbes39 · 23/02/2018 13:18

I meant to add - whether the works or not I'm glad we have gone down this route of the modified natural FET rather than fully medicated as when we had the fully medicated one last ear my lining was relatively thin (8.2mm) but this morning's measurement was 13. Something. Certainly explains my heavy periods when I have such a thick lining! 🤞

OP posts:
Decafplease · 23/02/2018 15:47

Yeah Hobbes 🤞it continues well! How many embryos are you transferring?
Afm, i had my baseline scan sunday, expected ET day a week Wednesday, so exactly a week after you, if all goes to plan.
wanda any updates? Hope smaller follies have caught up.

bjonesreborn · 23/02/2018 15:58

hobbes that's a massive difference in lining, hopefully that is the key for you!
decaf great you're on track as well - how many are you transferring?
AFM a week today for my scratch then start buserelin a week on Sunday, can't wait to get started now

Hobbes39 · 23/02/2018 20:13

Hi @Decafplease - we are just transferring 1 - after last cycle where we transferred 2 and they played 'is it the other embryo' on every blob they saw on the scan I couldn't face that happening again, so just want to know that if we are lucky enough to get pregnant this time that once they see it in the right place there will be no mention of ectopic as I was totally sick of that word last time! We only have 2 embryos so if this on doesn't work, will try with the other one, and if that doesn't... well I think that might be it - but trying not to think about that at the moment! X

Hi guys I hope you don't mind me joining - I had 2 embies transferred on Friday and now in the looooong 2ww. Has been a tough journey for us - this is our 4th and final cycle with the first cycle ending in a mmc at 11weeks. Just keeping everything crossed for this to work xx
