3rd or more time lucky - IVF cycle buddies October

Hobbes39 · 13/09/2017 16:15

Hi Just wondering of there are folks on here who are about to go through their 3rd + time of IVF who want a cycle buddy? I dont mean it badly towards anyone who is starting their IVF journey for the first time, (i was there just this time last year after all) but I feel a bit like I cant be as optomistic about it as I was, so dont want to drag any first timers down? Hope that makes sense!
Anyway, just to explain about me:
TTC #2 for over 2.5 years now
Unexplained Secondary Infertility (have 4 year old DS)
Age 40.5 Shock
AMH: 15.4
2 failed fresh and 1 falied FET (with single frozen 3BB embryo we got from 2nd fresh round)
about to start 3rd fresh round when my period starts in approx 7-10 days, so will probably be late october EC.
anyone else a bit jaded, but still vaguely hopeful want to join me?
xx

Hi bjones, how did your consultation go?

bjonesreborn · 20/12/2017 15:51

Hi lulah thanks for asking. I was really disappointed as my amh has dropped to 1.6. The clinic said if it was under 1 they wouldn’t recommend treatment with my own eggs. Not that I have anything against donor eggs I just want to try mine!! Anyway we were super impressed with new clinic, seems much much thorough and seems they want to help us get the end result. Anyway i’m Waffling!! The consultant recommended I take dhea to improve egg quality which you have to take for at least 8
Weeks. They can’t prescribe but recommend where to buy it from
In this country. So....we won’t be starting in jan after all. I was upset as had got my head round it but now I think i’m Ok, just need the drugs to come in the post! So realistically will be end of feb/March we start. But then again I realised the other night if I am going to work whilst it’s going on then it can’t fall in school hols as not too sure how i’d Look/explain to 3 inquisitive children. So it may even be later than that. Bloody hell, never simple for any of us! How are you? x

bjonesreborn · 20/12/2017 15:56

Just realised you can’t edit a post, as I forgot to say we have our implications appt 1st feb. I’ve had to take a precious days holiday for that as the clinic only do them on tues and thurs. I will be put on a different drug this time and going to have the scratch

lulahbelle · 20/12/2017 18:52

So pleased that you like the new clinic bjones - that’s really great. Really sorry about your AMH fall though - really not what you need on top of the stress IVF already brings. I had a bit of shock this month when I found out mine had fallen by two-thirds in a year. I’ve heard great things about dhea so I hope it works well for you - annoying though it is to have to wait another couple of months to start again.

We’ve moved clinics too - our new clinic is definitely not as shiny and nice as our old one but they have great success results so am hoping it’ll be the right move! Hoping to start next month but it depends on the results of my immunes testing so may be joining you at the end of feb/march. Think I’ll probably be doing short protocol rather than long this time thanks to my AMH and will def be on new drugs as the new clinic doesn’t use Gonal f - which means I’ll have to learn to object myself 😩 Will also be having a scratch as my clinic insists on a hysteroscopy while you’re stimming which includes a scratch. Let’s hope new drugs and a scratch mean BFPs for both of us! x

Hobbes39 · 29/12/2017 14:05

Hi all - hope you all had a good xmas? Ours was good, despite all the shit in the run up, and I am relieved to say that as of the 27th my HCG was back to negative, so it's all as if I never was pregnant - which feels v sad but glad it's finally over. Thanks so much for your reply @lulahbelle - that really helps me decide that I def want to try natural if they will let me! I have an appointment for Feb 5 to discuss, and should be doing transfer about same time as you guys are doing your cycle too (Feb/March) so hoping it's a good month for us all! Xx

geeup · 01/01/2018 16:42

Pleased to hear your hcg result is negative so you can move forwards @Hobbes39. Hope you're feeling better and got everything crossed to you and all of us this new year.

lulahbelle · 02/01/2018 11:50

Hi hobbes, glad your HCG is finally negative and that you had a good Christmas. That’s great that you have an appointment to discuss the FET - hope they’ll let you do a natural one!

Def fingers crossed for all of us gee - was happy to see the back of 2017 and am hoping 2018 will be a lucky year for all of us. Your FET is pretty soon isn’t it? How’s everything going?

We’ve had the results of our immunes testing and they showed raised cytokines which the consultant wants to treat before we cycle again. Unfortunately that means it will be at least 2 months, possibly more, before we can cycle again.

Hope everyone else is OK and had a lovely Christmas and New Year break.

bjonesreborn · 02/01/2018 14:25

Hi hobbes glad everything is back to normal again and great news you are going to try again.
geeup are you getting close to transfer date now
lulah good you have got answers though.
To be honest I think I am still at least 2 months away, as implications appt 1st feb. And then can call on day 1 of cycle after that. But can’t have it interfering with Easter holidays so may have to wait which is a pain in the arse. So will try and work out rough timings on 1st feb.
Started my dhea and so far haven’t had any disasterous side effects, phew!!
Hope everyone else is ok, and let’s make 2018 our baby year! X

Hobbes39 · 05/02/2018 11:37

Hi everyone - how are you all doing? I'm off to my discussion appointment this afternoon to talk about possible natural FET (with progesterone support) rather than medicated. Fingers crossed they let me do it... I think the main reason I want to might not be the best reason as it's slightly defeatist - basically I figure if it doesn't work then at least my body isn't thrown out of whack again - just feels to me that the whole shutting down of my system each time isn't exactly great for me!
Anyway, I've been thinking often of you all and hope you are all ok x

bjonesreborn · 05/02/2018 14:48

Hello everyone
hobbes I hope your appt goes well this afternoon.
Afm we had implications appt last Thursday. It went well I think. Is awaiting af so I can do my day 1 phonecall, they will tell me then the date for the scratch and when to start buserlin. Bizarrely we were looking at the dates and it will be pretty much a year to the day since we were on our 1st cycle, not sure if that’s a good sogn or a bad one!! So looks like I will be looking for March/April buddies. In other news my new job hasn’t quite worked out as well as it should have, it was making me desperately unhappy and stressed/ill. So I have handed my notice in which isn’t ideal but there was no point in starting ivf whilst feeling like this. So job hunting again, which is not a great time as can’t really tell anyone about ivf. Anyway what will be will be.
Hope everyone else is doing ok, think of you all often too x

Hobbes39 · 05/02/2018 16:05

Hi @bjonesreborn - good to hear from you - and glad that you've had your implications appointment and all went well - fingers crossed for the next step x
AFM we discussed options with consultant and have decided to do a 'modified natural FET' - so no down-regging, but I start prognova on day 2 of my next cycle, then they will get me in for scan and transfer will be when my Lining is ready - so no shutting me down and much easier - although there is a risk of transfer being cancelled if my body doesn't do what it's supposed to do, but hopefully all will be ok & if so, I should be PUPO by the end of the month (I think) 🤞.

Hobbes39 · 05/02/2018 16:06

@bjonesreborn sorry - meant to add, sorry your job hasn't panned out the way you had hoped and it's been so stressful, but well done for resigning - I know from experience it's terrifying resigning without a job already set up to move to, but you've done the right thing, and I'm sure something better will come along x

OP posts:
geeup · 05/02/2018 21:22

That's really intersting @Hobbes39 and really positive. I would much prefer to do a more natural cycle and skip the downregging. I have my follow up on Friday so will ask about it then. You've inspired me!
@bjonesreborn so sorry to hear about your job. Sounds like you've made a good quick decision though - no point lingering if it was wrong.

Hobbes39 · 05/02/2018 23:34

Hi @geeup - good to hear from you too - how are you doing?
I don't fully know what will happen for this modified FET but will find out when period starts I guess...! It may take longer than I think, but I was insistent that I didn't want to downreg u less he thought I was lowering my chances of success. He said that while they don't do very many FET that aren't fully medicated, (only 3%) due to the fact they are harder to programme, studies so far show that there's no statistical difference between success of a modified FET and medicated, so if I don't want to down reg then he was fine with that. Having looked at some abstracts of research papers there is some evidence that it actually better (but not statistically significant). Good luck for your appointment x

Hobbes39 · 12/02/2018 19:39

Hi all - how was your appointment on Friday @geeup? Hope it went well?
I've started progynova and will be on it for 2 weeks, then they will scan me and if all well then I start progesterone and the count down to day 5 starts... then they put the embryo back in... so won't be long hopefully 🤞🤞

bjonesreborn · 12/02/2018 20:51

wow hobbes that all seems super quick! Have everything crossed for you. I'm awaiting day 1 which should be this week sometime. I started a March/April thread yesterday, am hoping I get some lovely support on it like I did last year with you guys

geeup · 12/02/2018 22:05

Wow that is so much quicker @Hobbes39 very jealous!! Friday went well. Discussed options but ultimately they want me to go again with a stimulated cycle ie full down reg as their results are 20% better for that than natural 😫

geeup · 12/02/2018 22:06

Good luck @bjonesreborn hope there some lovely ladies to support you. I won't be starting downregging till mid April so am ages off! 🕰

bjonesreborn · 13/02/2018 07:21

Thanks greup. Are you staying with same clinic then? Poor you having to wait, none of this is fair at all is it.

geeup · 13/02/2018 08:03

I am staying with the same clinic but the wait is partly my doing - I want some extra tests doing before we put the last two Frosties in. I'm just really uncomfortable about doing everything the same again without knowing if there's something causing implantation failure.

Hobbes39 · 13/02/2018 12:21

@bjonesreborn - yes, it seems so fast - there is a risk (2% supposedly) that I will ovulate myself and that will mean that they will have to cancel it... so that's the downside of this modified protocol, I just have to hope I'm not that unlucky.... but you never know, as we wouldn't be in tho situation at all if we were the lucky types!
@geeup what tests are you getting done? I totally know where you are coming from on the not wanting to do it the same again without checking if there's a problem they haven't found yet - I hope that the tests are useful and wish you all the luck for the next cycle xx

OP posts:
geeup · 13/02/2018 13:52

Thanks for the luck! I'm going for immune testing and we're going to try sperm comet on my DHs sperm. I think 3 failures with perfect blastocysts is too much so need to try to find some answers...
Really hope this is your lucky go!

bjonesreborn · 14/02/2018 16:26

hobbes really hope the timing works out right for you
geeup I hope the tests come back with some answers for you.
Afm, day 1 today so scratch booked for 2nd March and start buserelin on 4th March. Can’t believe it’s all starting again!

Decafplease · 15/02/2018 13:31

Hi all!
Bittersweet to see this thread running again. I stayed off the boards for a while, after my mmc in October, needed a break.
Am mid-cycle for FET now. Down regulation done, waiting for AF, then onto estrogen to build up lining. Hoping for tranfer end of Feb.
‘Hobbes’, ’jones’ good luck with your cycles! ‘geeup’ hope you get some answers!

geeup · 15/02/2018 13:35

Ahh best of luck @Decafplease have they changed anything or just mirroring your successful cycle before you miscarried? I'm so sorry again for what you went through.
