3rd or more time lucky - IVF cycle buddies October

Hobbes39 · 13/09/2017 16:15

Hi Just wondering of there are folks on here who are about to go through their 3rd + time of IVF who want a cycle buddy? I dont mean it badly towards anyone who is starting their IVF journey for the first time, (i was there just this time last year after all) but I feel a bit like I cant be as optomistic about it as I was, so dont want to drag any first timers down? Hope that makes sense!
Anyway, just to explain about me:
TTC #2 for over 2.5 years now
Unexplained Secondary Infertility (have 4 year old DS)
Age 40.5 Shock
AMH: 15.4
2 failed fresh and 1 falied FET (with single frozen 3BB embryo we got from 2nd fresh round)
about to start 3rd fresh round when my period starts in approx 7-10 days, so will probably be late october EC.
anyone else a bit jaded, but still vaguely hopeful want to join me?
xx

Hi user and welcome. The 2ww is so long isn't it! I'm very sorry about your mmc. Hope that this time round works for you.

As for us, scan on Weds showed about 8-9 follicles above 7mm. They said that with those numbers, we shouldn't cancel the cycle, though last fresh cycle we had about twice that. Another scan on Monday and then probably EC on Weds. I'm focusing on "quality over quantity".

Hobbes39 · 25/02/2018 10:10

Hi @user1497036202 - good luck with your tww! 🤞
@1Wanda1- good to hear from you and that sounds good news - 8 or 9 follicles the same sort of size sounds good to me - sounds like your DW will just have to be on stims for a bit longer but you hopefully will get a decent number from those follicles. Good luck!
AFM - I'm on the progesterone alongside the estrogen now and feeling a bit better, although hate the cyclogest - crinone was pretty minging too but not as bad - the waxy discharge (sorry tmi!) is so gross! 🤢

Thanks Hobbes - I know exactly what you mean about the cyclogest - it is so gross. Sex life out the window for a while I think! X

Decafplease · 25/02/2018 15:24

Hi all! wanda its good news you can go ahead. 8-9 follicles are a good number!
user welcome to our group. I too had a mmc on my last (3rd) cycle. It’s awful. Hope this one goes better!
Got a scan later this week to check on lining, now just popping the estrogen & waiting. Have decided to tranfer 2 embies, basically mirror last cycle & hope at least one is good.
Hope rest of you are ok? X

user1497036202 · 25/02/2018 16:19

So sorry to hear about mmc last cycle Decaf - is such a horrible thing to go through. That's great you nearly there re this cycle though. Yeah we decided to go for 2 this transfer as we have decided to make this the last time - I can't put myself through anymore x

bjonesreborn · 27/02/2018 13:27

Hi all
Welcome user good luck
hobbes all ok for tomorrow?
wanda how did scan go yesterday for your oh?
decaf have you had another scan yet?
Afm clinic will call me tomorrow with a time for my scratch on Friday, majorly panicking that I won’t be able to get there as snow forecast here thurs/fri..but once I know time of appt I can try and make some sort of plan.
Sorry if i’ve missed anyone, hope everyone is ok

Decafplease · 28/02/2018 08:24

hobbes good luck for transfer today!

1Wanda1 · 28/02/2018 14:59

Hi everyone. I know what you mean about the weather bjones, it just adds another thing to worry about doesn't it?! DW has EC tomorrow and with the forecast of possible heavy snow we've been worrying about getting there in time for 9am. So much so that I've just booked her a hotel room for the night rather than risk trains not running and then not getting there in time.

Hobbes is today transfer day for you? If so, I hope it's gone well!

decaf, hows your lining doing?

AFM, at my (third) scan on 26th I was disappointed when they told me my lining was only 6.3mm (this was after 11 days of progynova). They said it has to be 8mm by tomorrow and increased dose from 8mg to 10mg plus an oestrogen patch. If it isn't 8mm by tomorrow they will not do ET and we'll have to freeze any embryos. I feel so let down because they could have increased the dose to 10mg at the previous scan on 22nd and then it might be more on track by now. In our last cycle they did that at my second scan and it was fine. They said they don't like to increase too early because of increased risk of DVT with higher doses.

So, tomorrow is EC for DW with the worry of not many mature follicles, and a scan for me with the risk my lining won't have thickened enough. I'm feeling low about it all.

Hobbes39 · 28/02/2018 16:48

Hi all - well I'm glad to be home! Transfer went fine today, but journey there and back was a bit hairy - appointment was at midday but just to be sure we set off about 10 (for a usually 40min max journey!) so we were there with an hour to spare but I couldn't face the idea of worrying about being late! It's red warning for travel up here now and so I was glad to get back this afternoon - poor DH drove us thru blizzards and low visability, so v v glad to be home! So now we just wait til a week on Friday 🤞🤞.
@1Wanda1 - I'm sorry you are feeling down... it does sometimes feel like things are stacked against us - I know it's annoying at times, but it is true it just takes 1 and fingers crossed your lining will play ball. Good luck xx

Glad all ok @Hobbes39 - sounds like it was a mission but all done now!

Looks like we are test buddies! X

bjonesreborn · 28/02/2018 22:08

everything crossed for you hobbes really hope this is it for you
wanda so sorry you're feeling down really hope that your lining thickens and best of luck for your dw's EC tomorrow
scratch booked for 7.45am Friday, going to wing it a bit with the weather and see what happens tomorrow, oh seems to think we'll be fine...famous last words......

lulahbelle · 01/03/2018 08:46

Hi all, sorry not to have seen the updates to this thread earlier - have been taking some time away from the board while waiting to start our next cycle.

So pleased so many of you from the earlier threads are at the point of doing new cycles/FETs - I have everything crossed for you hobbes, bjones, wanda and decaf. Welcome too to user - hope this is your lucky cycle too!

geeup - hope the wait to start downregging isn’t getting you down too much and that you’ve found a way to combine your FET with some immunes testing/treatment if that’s still the route you’re looking at.

I’ll check in more regularly now to see how you’re all getting on - will hope to be hearing about an unbroken series of BFPs!

1Wanda1 · 01/03/2018 09:41

bjones I don't know where you are in the country, but trains seem to be running fine into Waterloo despite the snow - a few delays but not major disruption today (yet). So hopefully tomorrow will be ok too.

Decafplease · 01/03/2018 12:22

hobbes glad your ET went well! Good luck for the 2ww to you & user! wanda how did the scan & your partners egg collection go? bjones i agree, the snow was another complication we didnt need! Had my lining scan today & just made the appointment despite leaving earlier that normal! But good news, scan was ok, so on track for ET next week. lulah nice to hear from you. Hope the wait tp start is not feeling too hard for you & gee too!

1Wanda1 · 01/03/2018 13:36

We got 7 eggs at EC, so that's good.

Unfortunately my lining has not thickened at all since last scan on Monday. It was 6.3mm then and it's still 6.3mm now, even though they increased progynova dose to 10mg plus an evorel patch on Monday.

They say lining should be 8mm for ET. They have said that because of it being thin, they want to freeze any embryos that are good enough on day 5, but if there aren't any good enough to freeze, they would transfer them. So I am starting cyclogest today.

I feel so disappointed. Partly because no one at the clinic is able to offer any explanation of why my lining has not responded well on this cycle when on the first fresh cycle and the FET cycle, it was fine. Last time (FET) it was 9mm by EC. I just don't understand what's gone wrong this time. The only thing we've done this time different to the last 2 cycles was that I had the endo scratch - which is supposed to help lining!

bjonesreborn · 01/03/2018 16:28

Oh wanda i’m So sorry to hear about your lining, how disappointing for you
decaf glad to hear you are on track
hobbes you ok today?
Hi lulah when will your next cycle start
Afm we decided about 1.30 to book a travel lodge close to clinic. So glad we did as journey here pretty treacherous and friends at home saying it’s got worse (we’re only about an hour away from home)
So now only 3 miles from clinic so should be fine and at least I haven’t got to worry about stopping an hour before to do the bloody pessary on the morning - had visions of me in a lay-by!!
Hope everyone else is ok x

BeHereNow31 · 01/03/2018 16:45

Think it’s time for me to join this thread. I have just had my third failed transfer. I was going to have a break from mumsnet, but feel like I need to talk about ivf more than ever now. I don’t have anymore embryos from my second fresh cycle- so am feeling devastated.

Bare with me, while I catch up with everyone’s stories...

@1Wanda1 this happened to me during my FET. My lining was 6.3mm, and it didn’t thicken anymore. They just done the transfer anyway, and it failed 😓 but all the doctors (except 1) told me that over 6mm is fine. Now, I’m wondering they made a really bad decision?! Hope everything works out ok for you. I would prob freeze until thicker, looking back now.

user1497036202 · 01/03/2018 16:50

Sorry to hear that @BeHereNow31 - I know how you feel - just awaiting the results of our 4th cycle. It all feels pretty unfair doesn't it x

BeHereNow31 · 01/03/2018 16:54

@user1497036202 it is, I just feel so sad now. How are you coping with your 2ww? It’s the worst part. Hope you’re managing to relax. X

user1497036202 · 01/03/2018 16:59

@BeHereNow31 I think I feel a lot calmer this time but I think that's maybe because we took a break before this cycle and talked a LOT and have decided to draw a line and say this is our last go. It's taken its toll on us and we just want to get on with our lives - whatever that may look like. We actually have been to some adoption information events and instead of freaking us out I think had made us more positive about the future. Don't get me wrong I really want to carry and have a baby of our own but to us it won't be the end of the world if we can't x

BeHereNow31 · 01/03/2018 17:03

@user1497036202 that’s good to hear. It is something we have spoken a little about- possibly looking into adoption.

After years of trying, I think there’s only so long you can do ivf for! I’m really hoping all the best for you 🤞

I’m reading It Starts With the Egg. Hope I don’t turn too crazy 🙊

user1497036202 · 01/03/2018 17:17

@BeHereNow31 I read that too! I wasn't too sure about it all but have heard it def helps!

I would def recommend the infuriation days if it is something you are thinking about - is good to hear the info and I think for us just made us think about timings. The process on average takes 18 months to 2 years. With me already nearly 36 it helped us draw the line and understand how long it might take us to get our family x

BeHereNow31 · 01/03/2018 17:31

😵 2 years?!? I knew it was a while, but didn’t think it was that long! Will look into them, thanks!

The book is quite boring, but I’ll give it a go x

user1497036202 · 01/03/2018 17:55

@BeHereNow31 yeah it is a long process as you essentially have 6 months of checks and training and then to match you with a child can take a long time

Yeah the book is pretty dull!

I am really trying not to symptom spot but it's hard! Felt hurrendous yesterday and this morn but could be the progesterone x

BeHereNow31 · 01/03/2018 18:11

When is your test date? I was so bad at symtom spotting, and on google. By the end I knew it hadn’t worked anyway.

It is good that they take a while with adoption though. Need to make sure children are going to people who are going to look after them. Xx
