Fertility treatment- IUI

csds · 15/08/2017 19:47

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Oh csds, your post has brought tears to my eyes too! How wonderful that you have a supportive and caring boss. It makes things a bit easier when you have to go to appointments etc doesn’t it?

Take care, thinking of you xxxx

sidesplittinglol · 28/09/2017 15:13

I conceived 1st time round on iui after months of being clomid. Can not remember if I had a break in between though. I was meant to have ivf but the iui worked.

Cobblestones · 28/09/2017 19:25

Oh csds you are being so strong! I hope it was the right decision for you to go home. Sometimes staying distracted at work where you can lose yourself in the mundane helps. I hope it wasn't too difficult for you to get through the day. And bless your boss for being so caring.

I hope you can have a relaxing weekend you and your hubby do something together maybe go watch a silly movie. Are you going to go into work tomorrow?

We will get through this. Our eyes on the prize as banyan said. One day we will have our beautiful babies.

Cobblestones · 28/09/2017 19:30

Toomany- I have started my second round. On day 5. Had my baseline scan yest. They want me to come in again on Monday. This time on half the dose of letrozole so curious to know how I respond to this.

Felt a bit numb at the hospital yesterday. Less excited than I was previously. Felt odd being being where I was a few weeks ago.

csds · 28/09/2017 19:56

Thanks Toomany. And to everyone else, your kind words and support is amazing and appreciated. My boss is a gooden! Really supportive, it definitely makes life easier.

Thanks cobblestones, yes going home was the right decision, hubby finished early to so we went home, had a cry, a cuddle and a talk. Hubby really thought it was going to be our time.

We then went to ikea (for a unit) ended up getting bits to re-vamp the living room.... I think it was our way of a little retail therapy, 😂

Tomorrow is a short day at work and we have stuff on this weekend, Oktoberfest celebrations tomorrow evening which will be fun, then I’ve a massage and the cinema Saturday.

You’ve all been there, we just need that initial cry don’t we. Plus feeling a little anxious as I wait to find out about the next cycle.

I think once the hospital confirm I can do the next cycle I’ll be fine. I need to call tomorrow to get a new clomid prescription and injection.

How are you feeling about being on half the dosage? I’m hoping they don’t half mine, I know I had more than one good follicle but as none fertilised I’m hoping they will keep it the same.

Hope you’re feeling ok cobblestones, I can see why you may have felt numb.... going through the same motions and all. That said, I don’t know about you but I found once I got started the cycle went quite quickly so I’m hanging onto that thought. It will be the tww again in no time :0) x

Thanks yes once you're in it, it does go by quickly. Sounds like you had a lovely afternoon :) massage sounds like a great idea I should do that too haha

I had a 9 mm follicle on day 5 so I'm hoping half the dose doesn't mean anything less than a decent sized follicle in 8-10 days time. Will keep you posted..

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 29/09/2017 06:48

Cobblestones and csds

The first time I had the drugs and produced 1 or 2 good follicles. The second time I had the same amount of drugs and had 10 follicles. So they halved the amount of drugs for the 3rd attempt, yet I still had 10 follicles again! So it just goes to show, you never know how it’s going to turn out!

If you are paying privately and have too many follicles, I presume you can ask for an egg reduction procedure, I had this done on the 3rd attempt. They basically suck out a few eggs. It’s pretty much the same procedure as when they take out your eggs for IVF, except they just discard them. So just bear in mind, there is an option if you have too many follicles.

Oh I'm sorry, csds - I really had a feeling you were going to strike gold first time there! Great attitude though - onwards and upwards!

How are you finding inofolic? I'm pleased to hear it has helped. How long are your cycles now? Have you any idea about whether it has helped ovulation?

Cobblestones · 30/09/2017 15:23

Hi peaches. I'm guessing this is in response to my post on the pcos thread.

I have found Inofolic has helped to some extend but I can't be 100% sure. I had two normal cycles without med a few months which has never happened and then third cycle absolutely nothing. Was annovulatory so had to induce period to start IUI.

When I had letrozole last year I had 32-35 day cycles on 5mg. this time with 5mg and Inofolic I had 3 follicles and 27 day cycle. So to sum up I do think it has helped. The doc says I should continue with it.

Are you considering taking it?

Cobblestones · 30/09/2017 15:24

Csds - I hope you're ok. Did AF come on?

peachesarenom · 30/09/2017 16:37

Thanks Cobblestones I'm sorry I just came barging in on your thread everyone it's just that Cobblestones made an amazing post in the pcos thread and I just had to find out more!

My GP has put me on one tablet of metformin then had a chat with her OBGYN friend and told me to buy inofolic off the internet. It has been two months and I've only just got the courage to try it. I'm not convinced I'm ovulating.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 30/09/2017 17:49

Hello peaches! You’re very welcome on this thread, we are all very nice! Smile

What is inofolic? Does it help you ovulate?

csds · 30/09/2017 18:38

Cobblestones AF not shown yet, expecting it either later today or tomorrow.

Peaches no need to apologise, get help and advice where you can, post away. Smile

Thanks for making me welcome Grin

I gather PCOS hormonal imbalances could be due to or at least occur in conjunction with insulin issues. Inofolic is a 'food supplement' and has folic acid along with myo inositol. It helps insulin resistance and so balances your hormones apparently. The NHS doesn't fund it so you have to buy it online and it's not cheap but the claims are amazing and recommended by awesome GP do I finally decided to give it a go.

csds · 01/10/2017 09:25

AF arrived yesterday evening, so I’ve called the hospital today to start the next cycle. I go in on Wednesday for bloods and scan. Then I’ll wait to be told if I can take my Clomid. X

Thanks peaches. Very good info.

Csds - so glad you can get straight on and try your next cycle / good luck.

peachesarenom · 01/10/2017 12:59

Good luck csds

Cobblestones · 01/10/2017 18:32

That's great csds. Hope you've been able to get some rest this weekend.

Peaches - how have you found the metformin? I used to feel a bit sick with one tablet. I could never get to two. The doc took me off it coz it never did anything for me but interestingly Inofolic did have some noticeable impact albeit in an inconsistent way.

peachesarenom · 01/10/2017 18:44

Cobblestones I just read the box and it says I've been supposed to take 2x500mg a day and I've just been taking one! So stupid! It was a bit funny to start but been good since!

Cobblestones · 03/10/2017 09:17

When you think you have it all figured out, infertility throws you another curve ball! So on half the dose of letrozole this time I have 13 follicles! But all less than 13 mm. And what's more my lining is quite thin! A complete reverse of the last cycle. Have been given pessaries of estrogen and have another scan on Wednesday. Not sure what to make of it.. Hoping for one or two dominant follicles with the others reduced or stalled and a thick lining else this cycle will be cancelled or stretched out not sure...

csds · 03/10/2017 12:58

OMG cobblestones, that’s insane. How do you even try to get your head round that when you’ve been on half the dosage.

Are you CD10? 13mm doesn’t sound bad though, my last ones were 15mm at CD10.
Fingers crossed only one or two become dominant so that you can continue with your treatment.

I’ve heard good things about pessaries, (although a little messy apparently).

Did they seem concerned??

You ok Hun? X

Cobblestones

That’s like what happened to me, it’s weird isn’t it?

Fingers crossed you have 1 or 2 dominant ones at your next scan. If you stalk have loads of eggs, is it an option to have them ‘popped’?

Cobblestones · 03/10/2017 18:36

Yesterday I was feeling a bit bummed but this morning I was like let's just see what happens... But now this evening I feel so bloated and have the worst back ache! So strange I didn't feel any of this before.

Csds thanks for the reminder about the 15mm follicle. I was day 9 yesterday so really hoping what you said comes true.

Toomany I'm a bit weary about going through something similar to egg collection just to reduce the number of follicles. I think if I was to have too many dominant follicles I would probbaly opt to cancel this cycle though I hope it doesn't come to that. I guess you can say I'm a bit of a scaredy cat.. I'm hoping if I do need to go through ec it would be just the once on IVF and hope to freeze embies for subsequent cycles if needed. But look at me plan this like I actually have control...... Hmm

csds · 04/10/2017 07:59

You’re sounding positive cobblestones which is great. Let us know how you get on with your scan today.

I’ve just been for my cd5 bloods and scan, I now have to wait for the call to confirm if I can start my clomid this cycle. I have my prescription (literally waiting outside the pharmacy now) at present I have 1 follicle that is 12mm so that’s big already.

Yes Toomany you said you once had 13 follicles. It’s just a bit of a mind field isn’t it, nothing really makes sense..... we just have to go with it! X
