Fertility treatment- IUI

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Thanks CSDS. How are you doing? Your going to be testing soon aren’t you?

csds · 16/11/2017 20:11

I’m good thanks, I was thinking about testing Monday morning I’ll be 12days post iui, blood test is on Wednesday.

I don’t feel any different I’m wondering if it’s even worth me testing, maybe I should just wait for my official blood test on Wednesday. X

That’s up to you CSDS, but just remember just because you don’t feel different doesn’t mean it hasn’t worked.

Had IUI yesterday, the process itself wasn’t too bad but I had really bad cramps last night, much worse than normal Sad so it’s into the TWW for me. It should go quick enough for me this time, have a very busy week in work this week and with getting organised for Christmas it should be a good distraction

csds · 19/11/2017 13:41

Glad insemination went ok for you. Hope your cramps have gone. Yes the tww can go quite quickly once you’re in it and it’s even better when you have stuff on to occupy the time Smile

snowy1982 · 19/11/2017 17:25

Cramps have eased, have never had them that bad from IUI before so it was a bit unnerving

csds · 20/11/2017 11:50

Glad you’re ok snowy.

I tested this morning and got a negative. I’m not surprised, hubby didn’t know I tested so I won’t tell him. By today anyway, want him to enjoy his birthday.

We have talked a bit more the weekend, if ivf doesn’t work for us second time round then we will be calling it a day. Hubby got a little upset and said ‘it’s killing me’ he’s completely heart broken with keep having to go through this process.

We have our consultation on Wednesday.

How’s things with you snowy? X

CSDS, so sorry for your negative SadFlowers

Also so sorry you and DH are having such a hard time with it all, it is such a hard process to go through repeatedly. Was actually having a think in bed last night about when I would call it a day.

Am only seeing this this morning as am away for work and signal isn’t great.

csds · 21/11/2017 18:01

For us we need to have in mind a plan when we are going to say enough is enough.

We had a lovely weekend visiting Bulgaria, I’m managed to catch a cold so Work was hard work today, I’m off sick the rest of the week, prewarned my boss and he was fine with that. He knows I want to be well enough to see my little niece as Friday I head home to the uk to see my family. X

Sorry to hear about the negative result csds. I hope you’re doing ok. As always you sound so positive and focused. I admire you for it. Hope you and dh have a lovely day on his bday. The only thing I would say is make sure you ‘test’ your threshold when you’re not exhausted from/during on-going treatment.

Snowy - cramping sounds painful. It can be unnerving when you expect something to be as its been before and it turns out not to be the case.

Nothing much to update at my end - I’ve thrown myself into work. Feel like my body and mind have some what recovered after the terrible experience of IUI #2. I’m meeting my consultant next week to discuss way forward. I’m keen to start ivf in jan after I return from holiday.

csds · 23/11/2017 09:05

Yeh strangely cobblestones I’m doing fine. Haven’t even shed a tear this time. I think it was snowy that once said.... think I’ve become a little numb to it.

We had our talk with the consultant yesterday about IVF, We have been given the prescription for the meds and a timeline of what happens. Like you cobblestones we will be trying in Jan, for me it will be the end of Jan around 23rd- 25th going to use the time to relax, enjoy Xmas and our holiday as well as yet to lose a little weight that I’ve put on. I won’t lie, I think I’m going to find the process a little daunting but needs must and all that.

Glad to hear that you feel your mind and body have recovered I have been thinking about, hoping you were ok.

How’s your tww going snowy, so when is test day? Next wed/thurs? X

snowy1982 · 24/11/2017 07:03

It will be next Friday I’m testing so still a bit to go. So far TWW hasn’t been too bad as i’ve been very busy with work, but the second half of it is always the worst. Not trying to be negative, but I think it hasn’t worked this time around. Have been cramping on and off all week and noticed a few other things that make me think it will be a BFN.

csds · 24/11/2017 07:56

It’s not over until Friday snowy. I have my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully this week will fly for you rather than drag. Cramping could be a good sign x

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 24/11/2017 09:34

It’s quite frustrating that the good signs and the bad signs are so similar!

Your right, it ain’t over until I test and AF appears. It’s can just be hard to stay positive but I will do my best. Going to a concert on Sunday night and we’re staying in a fancy hotel as well and hitting the Christmas market so it will be a nice weekend. Am off on Monday as well but have to go to a funeral so that’s not so good. Then another busy few days in work and then test day so it should come round quickly enough

csds · 25/11/2017 07:56

I’m back in the uk visiting family it’s kind of an Xmas visit, we had proper fish and chips last night.. oh it was lush. I was never a big fan but it is something you miss when you don’t have it. It’s been 9 months and I enjoyed every mouthful ha ha.

What concert are you going to snowy? Christmas markets, we love them. We are hopefully popping to Nottingham Christmas market today and Birmingham Christmas market in the week. Sorry to hear you have a funeral to attend, I’m sorry for your loss. X

Going to see Queen with Adam Lambert, DH is a massive Queen fan so the tickets were his birthday present

snowy1982 · 25/11/2017 09:15

Glad your having a nice visit CSDS

florafoxtrot · 27/11/2017 13:30

Hi ladies,

Wondering if I could jump onto this thread? We've just started the IUI process. I've done two Gonal-F injections and have a scan on Wednesday. Trigger and IUI likely in about a weeks time.

We've been TTC for 18 months now with no luck at all, DH has low morphology but other numbers are good so FC are skeptical that it is even an issue. We are self funding IUI while we wait to qualify for NHS IVF treatment, we are in Scotland so we receive 3 cycles on the NHS after 2 years.

Sad to see that there hasn't been much IUI success yet but really enjoyed reading the success stories too. You all sound lovely and supportive of each other.

csds · 27/11/2017 17:03

Hi flora

Feel free to come chat. Good luck with your scan on Wednesday, let us know how you get on. How long will your wait for IVF be do you know?

There’s some lovely ladies on this thread. We try and encourage each other, support and offer advice or simply thoughts as and when required. X

Hi csds

Because we are unexplained we won't qualify for NHS IVF treatment until June - and the current waiting list after that is 4 months - hence really why we are trying the IUI as just seems like quite a long time to just keep doing what we have been!

They are slightly concerned that I might not be ovulating each month either as although periods are pretty regular etc. my progesterone levels are on the low side, in 5 months of blood tests I've only ever hit the magic 30 number once...

Thanks for the warm welcome, I hope you are enjoying your trip home - and all the British delicacies!

snowy1982 · 27/11/2017 21:11

Welcome aboard flora, hope the injections are going ok, when I first started them I found myself very emotional and tired, but that passed and last few cycles I haven’t noticed any real side effects. Hope scan goes well

florafoxtrot · 28/11/2017 18:06

Thanks Snowy so far they've been ok, got a bit of a constant headache but nothing unbearable. Are you on Gonal-F too?

snowy1982 · 28/11/2017 19:13

Yes, I take gonal f and then ovitral for the trigger

snowy1982 · 29/11/2017 08:14

So I am pretty sure I will be moving on to round 4 (7 in total) of IUI. Haven’t rested yet (test day is Friday) and AF hasn’t arrived but have been having pains since Monday evening. On Monday it wasn’t exactly cramps but sharp pains continuously all evening, then all day yesterday and now this morning i’ve been cramping Sad

csds · 30/11/2017 11:38

Hey all, how’s things?

Snowy how you doing? Are you still feeling like AF is on its way?

We are on our way to Harry Potter world, hubby is a bit of a fan. We’ve spent the last three days with my family and my gorgeous baby niece...:. Which reduced me to tears, it broke me. but she is awesome: had lots of cuddles, bathed her, fed her and uncontrollably bought lots of things for her.

Flora how did your scan go?

OP posts:
florafoxtrot · 30/11/2017 11:46

Hope you are ok Snowy

Scan went OK but I do have two larger follicles and a slightly smaller one so if its gets any bigger then they'll cancel the IUI. Have another injection to do tonight and then a further scan tomorrow.

Enjoy HP World - I am mega jealous!
