IVF Cycle buddies March/April

I know we are only partway through February, but I'm down to start our 2nd round of IVF once my period starts at the end of this month, so thought I'd start a cycle buddies thread now as I gear up..!
Our history is that we have a 3.5yo DS, naturally conceived, but have been trying for a sibling for 2 years now... we had an ectopic pregnancy just over a year ago, but after that nothing... so as I'll be 40 next month, we decided there wasn't time to waste anymore and had all the tests last year but we are 'unexplained'... so we had a cycle of IVF in November/December but sadly was unsuccessful as ended in a chemical pregnancy. So here we go again - fingers crossed it's 2nd time lucky...! If anyone else is starting soon then would be great to have the support! Xx

Welcome laurel good to have you with us, sorry i dont know about PGS either, hopefully someone else will!

hobbes as tempting as i'm sure it is dont test! There's no point ruining your weekend with a result that might not be right. Enjoy your weekend and test next week when your home. Hopefully the weekend will distract you and help you feel more positive.

I'm feeling a bit wobbly today too, ive got sore sensitive boobs and feel like i do before AF comes. I swore i wouldnt symptom spot or think to much in to it especially with the progesterone playing its tricks but its hard to ignore!
I'm trying to think positive thoughts and bond with my lil easter embies but its hard i'm scared of getting too eager and it all going wrong but i dont want to feel negative about them either.....ahhh this part is so damn hard!

lulah brilliant news on your fertilisation results, 9 is amazing, fingers crossed for some lovely blasts!

ozzy if you have a 5 day transfer you will have to test approx 11 days later, (clinics vary but mine say 11dp5dt) if your period comes before you test its likely its not worked but you should still test. If not test on day 11, hopefully its a BFP but if not you stop your progesterone and wait for your period to arrive. Lots of people test early and i dont know if you tested 5 days after your transfer how accurate that result would be i know people can get a positive quite early sometimes but that would be up to you!

Xxx

Hope2409 · 13/04/2017 19:31

Sorry ozzy just re-read and i didnt really answer very helpfully. I found it easier to not look at when my period would normally be due as the drugs take over your system so theres no guarentee your cycle will be the same as normal. Im on long protocol and if i went by when my period normally comes it would of been due on 7th April but i didnt have my ET done till the 10th April so that doesnt work! X

Ozzyboo · 13/04/2017 19:47

Thanks ladies, I have another scan in the morning so I'll ask the nurse as well! X

geeup · 13/04/2017 21:31

Ozzy - my period came the day after it would have been if I'd never done ivf (ie if I hadn't downregged etc) but that's unusual. Think most people wait till they come off the progesterone.

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 21:35

Hi everyone and thank you very much for your replies. I'm not exactly sure when my ET will be but definitely not til next month, as the analysis is currently being done on the cells taken from the embryos and we get the results on 26th April. Apparently with PGS, or pre-Implantation genetic screening, they always have to freeze the embryos and transfer later as it takes 2-3 weeks for the results to come back.
The nurses told me I couldn't have had a fresh transfer this month anyway, as I developed fluid on the womb and pelvic cavity. I got OHSS after the egg collection. Very painful and uncomfortable for five days, but feeling much better now.

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 21:39

I can't complain though as that was the only difficult bit, I didn't feel any side effects from the stimulation, which I did for 15 days.
Ozzy, my period started exactly 28 days after my last one, and 12 days after my EC. Good luck with your scan tomorrow.

bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 21:53

Be interested to see what the nurse says ozzy. I'm similar to hope in that I was due 6th April, but didn't have ET until 8th April. I also did long protocol.
Wow laurel that seems a while to wait, but will all be worth it. Poor you suffering, glad you are feeling better now

Ozzyboo · 13/04/2017 22:08

I'll be sure to let you know what she says! I think I'm on long protocol too? I'm not completely sure what that is but from reading a 'short protocol' takes 3/4 weeks where as mine has been 6 weeks?

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 22:12

Thank you, now it's over it feels like it wasn't so bad. I thought it had all been rather too easy after having such an easy time during the stimulation!
Just wondering, what is long and short protocol, as I've seen a few people mention that & it wasn't discussed at my clinic.
Yes it all feels like such a long wait. We have had a lot of disappointments and waiting before this - I bet we all have - you kind of get numbed to it don't you?

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 22:13

My stimulation injects were for 14 days, would that be short protocol?

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 22:19

I was on long protocol - which involved taking drugs to 'down-regulate' my system followed by the stimulation drugs. My understanding of short protocol (I've never done it though) is that you don't down regulate, you just start with the stims... someone may be able to give a better explanation though!

OP posts:
bjonesreborn · 13/04/2017 22:24

hobbes that's my understanding too. Hope you have put those sticks safely away until you're back from your weekend away!

Hope2409 · 13/04/2017 22:24

Mine was long protocol, 3.5 weeks of down regging then 12/13 days of stimms. I've not done short protocol but i think like hobbes said you skip the down reg bit x

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 22:30

I see! Thank you for explaining. That sounds tough.

laurelstar · 13/04/2017 22:31

I wonder why they do down regulation?

Hobbes39 · 13/04/2017 22:32

I haven't succumbed... yet. I'm just dreading finding out it hasn't worked around my inlaws - they don't know we are doing this and if it hasn't worked I know I will get my period while there, and the idea of that happening and having to brave face t out is scaring me... if it doesn't come
by the time we get home I won't need to test as I'll be amazed if we get that far! I know tomorrow am is too soon, but I just hate that otherwise I'm going to have to deal with this with people I love, but haven't told and don't want to have to tell right outside the door when I'm falling apart Sad

Well today was OTD and just confirmed it was definitely negative. Need to call the clinic :(

Ozzyboo · 14/04/2017 08:13

Oh geeup I'm so sorry 😞 x x think about your Frosties and concentrate on a plan moving forward x x

BeePositive · 14/04/2017 09:02

So sorry geeup. Have time to mourn & when ur ready, u can focus on next steps with positivity again.
Good luck at ur in laws hobbes. Hope AF does not make an appearance. Keep us posted!

geeup · 14/04/2017 09:24

Yes should have said - good luck hobbes!

MushaSoturi · 14/04/2017 09:45

Sorry geeup, even though you knew must still be hard getting the confirmation. Good luck this weekend hobbes, fingers crossed AF stays away. Hope everyone else is good and keeping positive.

AFM started gonal f Monday night and had first scan this morning, so I have left side 11mm, 11mm, 10mm and 4 under 10mm. Right side 12mm, 11mm, 11mm, 10mm and 3 under 10mm. at least I think that's what the guy was shouting out. No idea if that's good or not? Starting cetrotide injections as well today and going in for another scan next Wednesday.

bjonesreborn · 14/04/2017 10:02

Sorry geeup so hard, but at least you have your little Frostie to concentrate on.
musha they sound like good numbers to me for first scan. Well done!
Hope you're ok hobbes, hoping you didn't test for your own sake really.
hope hope your wobble has gone away. It's so tricky isn't it to get the right balance.
I was worried last night as have no symptoms whatsoever and really don't feel any different. Not sure whether I should or not and if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

bjonesreborn · 14/04/2017 10:10

ozzy hope scan was good x

Ozzyboo · 14/04/2017 10:28

Thanks Bjones they're growing nicely all 14's and above now and one 17 in the lead!
Nurse said forget about normal cycle date as the drugs will stop that. X

bjonesreborn · 14/04/2017 11:13

Great news ozzy so do you have a date for EC now?
